  1. I don't get excited over the thought of Rick Nash coming here mainly because he isn't but he also wouldn't be a great fit on the current roster. Nash and Staal on the same line is two guys that are of a score first mentality with no set up play creating skills. With the addition of Nash this team would either need to move Staal to wing and get a playmaking center or add another top line player on the wing and thats not happening. We miss Whitney, Stillman, Samsonov, and Pitkanen for this very reason and adding more scoring ability but no ability for them to be able to score doesn't make sense. Our single greatest need is a playmaking forward to go in any position on the top line. Add Henrik Sedin in between Staal and Nash and now we're talking a dream come true situation and in our dreams or the All Star game is the only time you'll see that line.
  2. I have to go with undecided right now but the potential is there for this to be a disaster or be really successful. If Poni and Stewart contribute nothing and don't work out then we've seriously cut into offensive production. Same goes if Skinner doesn't have another crazy year. The defense in front of Cam Ward last year was terrible and its not any better with the addition of Kaberle, but its not worse either. If the powerplay can get rolling and our new acquisitions can score like we hope then even with the defense staying the same scoring should go up. IF we end up not being able to score and our defense isn't any better then it will be a catastrophic failure of a season. We could finish as well as 4-6 in the East. We could finish as poorly as 10-12. Averaging that out has us fighting for one of the last playoff spots as usual. I hope that things click and work out but right now I'm not so sure.
  3. Sounds to me like a d-man will be moved as part of a trade for a Cole replacement? Makes no sense for Rutherford to say we are done and now he pull this. Guessing McBain and a pick for a Top 6 forward will be coming later on.
  4. Yeah I'd be shocked if Carson doesn't get claimed. With all the D injuries around the league someones sure to claim him. Don't know if it was attempted or not but I'd almost think he could have been traded for a late round pick.
  5. We're definitely stacking picks to make a bigger move.
  6. Could also be stacking picks and prospects to go after a top d-man or winger. I heard 3rd round pick, that would be a little disappointing.
  7. Id like to have Frazer McLaren. Just my personal want though.
  8. Sounds more to me like someone pulled the plug on the deal. Now its ohh nothings close we're just checking things out letting him sit etc etc.
  9. Bob McKenzie on TSN says he will be traded at some point but he hasn't been as of this moment.
  10. If its a trade then its a close in proximity to NJ trade if they can make it by tonights game. Then you look at Boston whos been active and ex Carolina players and say hmmm Seidenberg again? Don't think Boston would get rid of him though. Could be something, could be nothing. Fun to speculate though.

    Commie

I take him on re-entry waivers at 1.75 million after I have a heart to heart with him and see if he is still interested in playing hockey and not money. At that point he goes to Charlotte on a conditioning stint and we worry about him seeing the lineup after the All Star break. By then its trade deadline time and we start fielding offers depending on where we are in the standings. Depending on how the roster shook down he would then have a spot in the lineup. As of now though we don't really have a way to replace anyone in the lineup for Commodore nor would I want to based on how he has played since he left here. Lots of unknowns in this situation that only JR can answer, we'll see what his answer is.
  12. Jay Harrison is on this team because hes a guy that can fight that can also play a little. Hes here to go to the penalty box instead of Tim Gleason because you want Gleason on the ice not serving 2-5-10 like he got against Atlanta. The Atlanta game the other night is just a preview of things to come this year when it comes to teams getting physical against us. Most the teams in the East are stacked this year with physicality and enforcers and its not a good thing to have a team full of young kids with nobody to protect them. If the real issue at hand would be addressed and an enforcer would be brought in to play on nights when needed then Carson or Sanguinetti could take Harrisons spot. Until then, or at least I hope so Harrison needs to stay just to be the punching bag and keep Gleason on the ice.
  13. Carolina, Buffalo, & Phoenix interested in Tomas Kaberle. He must be dealt by midnight before his NTC kicks in.
  14. The problem with Pothier is hes an injury waiting to happen with a history of concussions. Hes been a good d-man and probably could have been great but he hasn't made it near a full season since 05-06. Hes a good guy and is a good player when hes on the ice, the problem is keeping him healthy and its a risk if we keep him.
  15. [quote name='caniacbeej wrote: msgtcody']Ignorance is bliss. Let them pay for their season tickets and be happy just the same. If they'd rather crack jokes than worry about the success of the team thats their right. I didn't want Whitney gone but the deal was on the table of Colten Teubert and a 2nd round pick all Ray had to go was take a 3 month vacation and then you can have him right back here to make you happy next season plus the franchise d-man you've acquired and the 2nd round pick. If it makes you happy that didn't go through then bless your heart but for the future of this team that not happening was a setback. Ray was not going to be a rented player. The squashing of deal was based on not being able to get contract extension with new team. He was not going to come back if dealt and relinquishing his NTC. So the comments about him coming back after that deal are irrelevant. I tend to agree with the person who said that He and JR have agreed to get a deal worked out, if there was no one willing to give up what he is worth.Okay I say again, Colten Teubert plus a 2nd rounder for Ray to go to a contender and play for 3 months. That was the offer from LA that JR accepted and he turned down. If he wasn't going to come back after being dealt then you should be mad at him because there is no reason not to. He has kids, he has a family and the offer was there for him to go to a contender for a couple months and not have to relocate anyone. That extension he wanted was to relocate his family which doesn't make any sense if hes happy and wants to retire a Cane. So he either wants to relocate and is gone after this year, or he comes back next year as a Cane which he could have done anyway if he had taken a 3 month trade. Now explain to me how getting nothing for someone thats either gone or wants to resign here which he could have done anyway is beneficial to us?

  17. Overall Grade of a C Corvo Trade: B Good trade with Washington to get Osala who I think will flourish here and Pothier who can finish out the year for us. The 2nd round pick though is in 2011, just means a longer wait for something to come from it and right now we have some holes. Scott Walker Trade: D Walker is very risky with his injuries but Washington needed toughness and grit and some playoff experience which they got. All we got was a 7th rounder and I know it frees up some cap space but I would have a preferred a body than that low of a pick. Andrew Alberts Trade: D Do not like this trade at all. Alberts is a young physical guy who can stand up for himself and provide some nasty on the back end. All he needed to be was a bottom pairing guy and hes done that just fine. His contract was good, he was cheap, he was everything we needed and the 3rd rounder doesn't do it for me here. Stephane Yelle : B Cap dump, get a guy to fill a spot in the minors in Lalonde, lose Harrison Reed but he hasn't panned out. Fine with me Aaron Ward: B Excellent, you get a 4th rounder, Pogge an AHL goalie to replace Peters being up and get rid of this slow turd Ward. Getting that for someone that was on waivers is a good deal. Now heres the problem I have with not getting the Whitney trade to work out. The deal with the LA Kings was Colton Teubert and a 2nd rounder for Ray Whitney. Colton Teubert would have been perfect with this team. Tough guy with a mean streak and will drop the gloves left and right. Good young d-man could have been a big upgrade over anyone we got today plus the 2nd rounder. Not saying this is JRs fault but unhappy with Ray for not taking one for the team for a few months. Had this deal gone down they would have gotten a solid A and getting rid of Alberts would have been fine. Otherwise just so-so day basically clearing some money and creating space for some youngsters to come in. You also lost two tough guys in Alberts and Walker with nothing to replace them. Gleason can't carry everyones jock-strap around and now the team toughness garbage doesn't fly either. You got the punching bag Kostopoulos and then Gleason who can take care of himself just fine but why should he have to miss ice time? You can't have a team of young guys, new guys, and soft guys because theres no cohesiveness there and nobody is going to take up for one another except Gleason. Needed an enforcer while this team undergoes this transition.

  19. Id like to take a chance on Cheechoo considering Carolina is the place to go to revive your career. Cheechoo was a great player in San Jose, has had a bad year in Ottawa, wouldn't mind taking the risk but with a 3 mil cap hit I doubt it happens.
  20. This is a great deal guys, Picard is not bad at all plus at the very least another 2nd rounder. Will someone on the d get moved now? Maybe he will replace A. Ward? The price for rentals has been very high so far this year, this is very good for us so far and Whitney is sure to fetch at least a 1st and a prospect. Things are looking good.
  21. Justin Peters is the man, loved the interview and thought he played really well. There was good effort there and he was really kicking out the pucks and not giving up any rebounds. He looks really wide in net to me but also looks to be pretty quick for his size, very impressed so far.
  22. Good physical defensive minded forward. Good size 6'2 and plays a gritty kind of game. Probably won't do anything to wow you but has good toughness and will scrap from time to time. Good recall for what we need right now and no reason to recall a Bowman or Boychuk and mess up the good chemistry the top lines have right now.
  23. Edwards Mill Road and roads leading into arena and parking lot are a disaster. Don't drive anything too important to you there may very well be some paint swapping going on in the parking lot. IF you make it to the game grab some popcorn and stand out there to watch everyone leave, it could get exciting.
