  1. For what's it worth: Spector Hockey Friedman believes the Carolina Hurricanes had interest in Dallas Stars free-agent defenseman Julius Honka before Dec. 1. He wonders what the summer might bring for Honka, who needs a fresh start.
  2. I wonder if the Rags are holding out any players due to trading??
  3. I don't think the "committee" will do anything prior to the deadline. I feel that deals will be made after the season is over were you trading players with contracts and not rentals.Just my .02cents
  4. Starting next season, Matthews’ new annual cap hit will be the highest on the Leafs and the league’s second-highest behind Edmonton’s Connor McDavid’s $12.5 million. While Matthews didn’t exactly get “McDavid money”, his new cap hit will still take a big bite out of Toronto’s payroll for 2019-20. The Leafs now have over $71.9 million invested in 14 players, with Mitch Marner, Jake Gardiner, Kasperi Kapanen, Andreas Johnsson, Ron Hainsey, Garret Sparks, and Igor Ozhiganov to be re-signed or replaced. Even by placing Nathan Horton ($5.3 million) on long-term injured reserve at the start of next season, and assuming a projected cap of $83 million for 2019-20, the Leafs won’t have enough to re-sign everyone. They’ll likely have to shed a contract or two before the start of next season. Marner, of course, is the Leafs’ next priority and could cost around $11 million annually to keep in the fold. He’s indicated he’ll wait until season’s end to open contract discussions. It’s a good bet the Leafs will try to get him locked up before he becomes a restricted free agent -and a potential offer-sheet target – on July 1. I believe the main difference between signing bonus and salary it that signing bonus is guaranteed monies regardless if there is a stoppage of hockey in the near future where as salaries wouldn't get paid if that happened. It appears that the signing bonus is being counted toward's the team cap via the above information.
  5. FYI: NICHOLS ON HOCKEY: During an appearance yesterday on Toronto’s TSN 1050, Darren Dreger said the Carolina Hurricanes remain a club he’s keeping an eye on leading up to the NHL trade deadline. He notes Hurricanes GM Don Waddell has talked openly about their need to acquire a scorer, while team owner Tom Dundon said he doesn’t value or covet high-end defense when going into a draft. Dreger believes they’ll continue to link the Hurricanes with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He pointed out their previous interest in William Nylander before he re-signed with the Leafs, and they’re said to be interested in Leafs winger Kaspari Kapanen. SPECTOR’S NOTE: The two clubs seem, as Dreger pointed out, to be a good fit. The Leafs need to bolster their blueline, especially on the right side. The Hurricanes need scoring forwards. The Leafs have good young offensive forwards while the Hurricanes have depth in quality defensemen. Both sides appear to be slow-dancing toward a possible deal in the coming weeks. Then again, perhaps they’ll find other options to address their respective needs.
  6. Interesting article from James O'Brien (NBC sports) https://www.yahoo.com/sports/heat-ice-cold-hurricanes-211547215.html
  7. Bob McKenzie ✔ @TSNBobMcKenzie First year salary is pro rated $10M salary (6.77 M) plus a full $2M signing bonus. Net number of $8.77M. AAV of $10.2M. In out years, the AAV is $6.996M. In year two, base salary is $700K, SB of $8.3M. In remaining years, $2.5M in base salary plus $3.5M SB.
  8. With Vasilevskiy out, the Lightning should be on hunt for goaltending If there’s one team that seems like an obvious fit, it’s the Carolina Hurricanes. Included in their goaltending surplus, the Canes have two on the verge of unrestricted free agency — both of whom could conceivably squeeze into Tampa Bay’s tight payroll dynamic. Petr Mrazek and Curtis McElhinney, while both performing at a level near or below Domingue under similar circumstances, have proven to be capable in spurts. Mrazek in particular is a fascinating candidate, given that he bet on himself with the Hurricanes on a one-year deal and would have the stage to prove his worth on a short run as the starter in Tampa.
  9. FYI: Allen doubts the Leafs can get Nylander re-signed to an affordable bridge deal and notes they’ll reach a cap crunch next summer when they must re-sign Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner. He suggests the Carolina Hurricanes, with their blueline depth, could be a good trade fit. SPECTOR’S NOTE: Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman reports the Carolina Hurricanes are “all in” on Nylander if the Leafs decide to trade him. They’ve been frequently linked to the Leafs forward in the rumor mill since the summer, with Justin Faulk or Brett Pesce cited as the defenseman heading to the Leafs if a deal goes down. For now, no word on any progress involving Nylander’s contract talks or of the Leafs getting any closer to trading him.
  10. Does anyone know what terms were given at signing? One year, one month, or what??
  11. Bring in Anderson for a one year contract and let him and Darling fight it out for the #1 spot. If Darling can't make it move him down to Charlotte and let Ned be Anderson understudy given him some starting games to see what he is capable of doing in the NHL.
  12. If Tavares does leave the Isles word on the street is that he wants to go to a contender and not an rebuild. Doesn't hurt to wish but if I was a betting person I would have to bet against us.
  13. Thoughts and prayers goes to the Staal family.
  14. Here's an article from the Charlotte Observer giving their take about no trades by the deadline : https://www.yahoo.com/sports/m/f6003078-9ecb-31e8-9094-0636485646e9/ss_hurricanes-likely-to-be-quiet.html
  15. Here is a good article concerning our coach: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/m/3a016e71-318a-339e-9e3e-f935ff4725f7/ss_three-lessons-carolina.html
  16. Speaking of Cam I ran across a good article (see attached link) on what he along with Gleason are doing together. I figure once he hangs up his skates this is what he will be doing full time: https://www.yahoo.com/sports/hurricanes-goalie-cam-ward-wine-035933165.html
  17. I have Centurylink Prism and the game is showing up at Friday at 6:00AM!!
  18. I noticed as early as Sunday that the games weren't showing up on my provider but yet John F. was announcing that the next game would be on Fox Sport Carolinas. I wondering if anyone might be streaming??
  19. I have Centurylink Prism and noticed the same thing so I called Centurylink and they told me that Fox Sports Carolina had preempted the games in lieu of tennis. I don't even know if the Canes organization is even aware of whats happening. I would like to know if we have any other options to view the game???
  20. It appears that the Rags are very much interesed in Sekera but the asking price is too high at this point. We are asking for a 1st round pick plus a prospect and they are hoping the "price" will drop to a second round pick plus a prospect. See the below link for the article: http://nypost.com/2015/02/17/as-deadline-nears-rangers-right-to-be-targeting-this-defenseman/
