  1. That was funny, but how about the insightful...during the Floriday game, on one penalty kill, he made the comment that the Cane's were getting better scoring chances short-handed then when on the powerplay. A penalty kill or two later we score a shorty! Pretty spot on!!
  2. What mistakes? The guy has been playing probably longer than you've been alive and he's still one of the most consistent players we have. Not to mention he currently leads the team at +11. :?He is slow, no doubt. Mistakes? They all make them, but Wesley is the BEST we have at recovering from them. He seems to be always in the right spot to block the shot or pass. At $1.2M, if we can sign him for that again, it's a bargain -- far better than the bust Kaberle has been at nearly twice that amount.
  3. I must say our Big Joe was up to the test of their Big Joe in the SJ game. Vasicek continues to show improvement as the games go on. He had the one assist, yes...but on the first Ladd goal, from the neutral zone Joe made a nifty saucer cross-ice dump in over all sorts of Sharks to the fast-moving Walker (which then went to Wesley for Ladd's tip in goal). It doesn't show up as a point for Vasicek on the scoresheet, but that was a nice play there!
  4. the last time i looked a sellout or as the N&O called it standing room only crowd meant NO TICKETS WERE AVAILABLE. in my book that is a sellout, you are going to have patches of empty seats (people taking bathroom breaks, socializing (various club levels and center ice sections)), sorry if everyone didn't sit in their seats the entire game like you wished. bottom line is it hasn't been that packed and vocal since the playoffs, the whole place had a playoff atmosphere last night. I noticed a few more empty seats than would be normal for bathroom, socializing, etc. On the other had, the SRO area looked quite packed from my vantage point. Definitely a rockin' crowd too...
  5. Given what we're paying him and the play we "know" he is capable of, I don't sitting Kaberle is wise. Unfortunately, though, your assessment of his play is pretty much right on, to date.
  6. Those were pretty awesome shots, though. He stopped one that I was sure went in and when I realized it was in his glove, my jaw dropped. And the third one that went in, I didn't even see that puck move. His GAA sucked tonight, but those weren't lazy goals that got by him.I agree kermelbar...I just made a similar post on the game day thread. I'm glad Ward was healthy enough to come in, but two of those goals Graham let in were things of beauty that would have gotten by most. Eeek: Sorry for the double-post...not sure what happened...

  9. Even if health wasn't an issue, I'd be surprised if Lavi went with Ward. Lavi, like many coaches, has a "ride the hot goaltender" philosophy. I think Graham's play of late would classify as "hot".
  10. That's about as funny as a two word reply can get...though, watch out, you may put frogger on the warpath!
  11. I thought dj was reasonably specific, after being asked for it, about what his beef was with Joe. I don't particularly agree with all dj said, but stormrider wasn't exactly singing Joe's halleluiahs either by saying Joe was "adquate" for the role that he's being asked to play. I agree Joe has been "adequate" for that role...and I can also agree with fans who think "adequate" just isn't good enough at this point in the season. Dang, agreeing with everybody...I must be hitting the green beer too early!
  12. I agree Camniac. On the plus, this recent stretch of games has shown consistently high level effort and outstanding defense. The penalty kill has been outrageously good. The results in this stretch unfortunately haven't matched their level of play. Obviously, the lack of a PP is a significant contributor to the lack of scoring enough goals to reward the good defensive efforts we're seeing by the boys. Hopefully, with a little PP mojo, this team can reel off five or six straight to secure a spot -- all of the other elements seem to be there...finally!
  13. No, I would doubt it as there's a day off in between. Graham has plenty in the tank. On another goalie note, www.goaliepost.com lists Brodeur as the probable starter tonight. I was thinking there was an outside shot he may sit tonight given that he played last night and is on (for him) a bit of a slump the last few games in GAA and Save Pct.
  14. The arena, since their guy blew the horn, should make a PA announcement...like "our bad". Confused fans are left wondering and blaming the officials. I don't think the goal judge flinched on it as it doesn't seem the red light ever went on. Pains me to stick up for the men in stripes...the Ides of March must be near...
  15. Why San Jose? What am I missing? I think he's talking about Big Joe Thornton. The WINNER!! Thanks stormrider for figuring out my mild attempt at humor
  16. I think the best chance we have of seeing Big Joe play well is when San Jose comes to town....
  17. I don't think anybody's commented on it before, but thought I'd give kudos to Lavi on the "Coach's Interview" that Forslund does of him on each Hurricane's Live. Lavi always give his answers straight into the camara (like he's talking just to me!) rather than simply answer back to the announcer. That's pretty good consideration of the viewer for a coach.
  18. bigger, 16 x 20 i think. i have one of Eric Staal from last year. real nice artist sketch with no sponsor logo. I'm pretty sure they're 16x20. Players really seem to appreciate the honor of getting chosen, I know both Brindy and Jeff O'Neill always took greater care in signing them neatly than other things thrust in front of them for signature. I had mine for both Jeff and Rod signed and they are almost letter-for-letter legible -- unusual for both of these scribblers!
  19. Should be amusing to watch Hurricanes Live tomorrow to see if they show Tripp in practice. Him in goal may be just what the boys need to boost their confidence on the power play...!
  20. Awful timing that they announce this the day after his injury...hope this doesn't start our own "SI Cover" or "Campbell's Chunky Soup" curse!
  21. I know C'mon guys, don't go starting this negative talk again...it's already passed whatthepuck's bedtime... )
  22. With Cole and Whitney back, he's been a healthy scratch....gives him time to think about how big a pay cut he's going to have to take to get signed by somebody next year.
  23. I suppose we could be giving up more shorties?
