Hurricanes v Sharks
Wednesday Dec 5 SAP Center San Jose 10.30
Hurricanes visit the Shark tank on Wednesday night looking for a win and an islanders loss, to get back to the playoff spots and relegate the Islanders to the wildcard melee
Its hard not to be confused with the Canes this season. Why are we not scoring more goals with the quality (never mind the quantity) of shots we are getting?
Are we really really good or just not ready? And why does it feel like a disappointment not to be higher in the standings when we are actually so close to a wild card? Who knows?
Carolina have 1 goal without top scorer Micheal Ferland in 2 games. It cames from Svechnikov with Hamilton and Aho getting helpers, arguably the three most talented offensive players on the team. McElhinney has a .930 save percentage on the season, and a 7-3-1 record. Mrazek had a fantastic game against LA, so either is a good option Wednesday night
Brind’amour has been trying out different lines without Ferland. The one he seems to enjoy is Aho - Staal - Teravainen with Rask moving into the normal spot between Williams and Foegele, Wallmark centring Svechnikov and Martinook and Bishop between PDG and McGinn. Carolina lead the league in all shot metrics, shots for, shots against and shot differential (if San Jose haven’t caught them before gametime)
The canes SHOULD get Brett Pesce back for the game tomorrow. Pesce had been injured with a lower body injury and hasn’t played since the shootout loss at home to Detroit nearly 3 weeks ago
If they get Ferland back too (concussion) this will be the first game all season the canes will be completely healthy. The canes are a point and 2 places back of the final wild card with a game in hand on the team that holds it (MTL) and 2 games in hand over the team above them (NYR)
Pre season I would have been thrilled with that – it just feels like this team is capable of so much more!
(with his first official GDT starter 🙂
