  1. Don't worry this guy showed up last year when the team was struggling and bashed Staal. When Staal put the team on his back just like he has done every year since he has been in the NHL we never heard from Top Shelf-1 again. Now the team is struggling again and it's Staal bashing time. If you had any merit to the opionions that you give then it would be worth discussing. I'll give you at this point in the year that Staal is underachieving but just like I told you last year he will soon return to form. I'm not sure if he'll ever be a great leader but has certainly has been a great player for this organization.Maybe you can compare him to Allen Iverson again and wish he was the great leader that you think A.I has been.
  2. Great Post!!! I couldn't agree more
  3. Every player mentioned but one has a good reason for missing games. Upper body issues, broken legs, torn ACL's, broken necks, H1N1, Flu, Shoulder damage, broken wrist, concussions, etc.... When the team is on a 12 game losing streak with key players out like Staal and Ward. When you are one of the highest paid players on the team and supposedly the foundation for our defense you have no excuse to miss a game for a common cold. No not the FLU but a common cold. I liked to see if I was out sick at my job for a common cold. I don't care if this guy becomes the greatest player in the world I would trade Pitkanen's butt tomorrow and get players in here that cares about there teammates. Just like in Philadelphia and Edmonton this guy is a cancer when things are going bad.
  4. [quote name=SuckaPunchd]You guys seriously want Staal to be the captain? He's been so up and down, and unreliable. Whitney deserves the C before anyone. Cole should have gotten an A a while ago as well. (Before Walker in my opinion) Short term Whitney might need to be the captain. That being said Whitney won't even be a Hurricane much longer. Because of his value he will be traded in the near future Walker isn't a Alternate captain. Staal and Whitney wear the A. There has to be a reason Cole is consistently overlooked as a alternate captain. It might be due to his injury problems, its tough to have any captain that misses a bunch of games. Walker in my opinion has been our most consistent player this year. No one can question how hard he works on the ice. Walker is a plus 2 on a team that has lost 11 in a row.
  5. [quote name='a17 wrote: pkling'] I like the idea of the "rotating captain" based on who comes to play you earn the spot... Didn't I read somewhere that a team in the league already does this... Back in ~2006, Buffalo Sabres chose Briere to captain for the away games, and Drury was captain for the home games (Or maybe it was the other way around....). Anyway, I this is a kinda-similar thing to that. Not really, but it was the same idea. That would be kinda cool. Why does everybody say it's gonna be staal next? Even if Rutherford did sya that, it sure isn't the choice I would make. I personally would choose Whitney because he's the only player that shows leadship and quality on this team. He's a real role model for the other players. Staal would just look cool with a "C" on his jersey. He lacks everything the captain position needs: -Leadership -Focus -Effort -Quality -Attitude Whitney's better than Staal right now anyway. Anybody is better than Staal right now. PEACE!!!!Are you serious? Here we go again year after year. Staal has obviously been hurt all year. I think everyone forgets the last two years when Brindy has either been hurt or non poductive. 2007 with Brindy and Cullen out he took a mediocre team and came one game from being in the playoffs. Last year when everyone thought there is no hope for this team again he puts the team on his back and carries them deep into the playoffs. Every year he puts up 30-40 goals and 70-100 points. He plays on the powerplay and shorthanded. 349 without missing a game says enought right there. I've watched him over the past few years there are many nights when he has played hurt when most take the night off. He has grown into a great leader in our community, He has been model citizen. Everytime we get in the playoffs he has led this team deep. 2006 he led the NHL in playoff points and everybody knows the big goals he scored last year in the playoffs. You can't blame Staal when you surround him with average players. Give him a top line winger(hopefullly Boychuk can be this player) and then you can criticize him. Staal and Ward are not the problem with this team and they are going to be the answer for many years. I recall Staal took a puck to the ear earlier this year when the canes are down 4 goals and he still came out for the third with 29 stitches and scored a goal. If that isn't leadership please tell me what is.
  6. [quote name='caniac-1-1 wrote: cjslumber'] Lets step back for a minute. We all need to take our Homer glasses off. Lets say the roles are reversed. If Ruutu was the one who was dragged off the ice we would be calling for a lifetime suspension. This hit is no different then the Orpik hit on Cole. Apparently, you need to put those homer glasses back on, as they must have a fairly strong prescription. Homer? Orpik pushed Erik into the boards from a good distance away, knocked him off balance exposing his head, and used a free hand to keep Cole from being able to avoid the collision. I agree different types of play but both players deserve a suspension. I'll stand behind my statement that both plays don't belong in the game. Ruutu skated into a player who was already at the boards, gave him a square shoulder check that would under most circumstances be uneventful, and Tucker twisted at the last split-second so that space was created between Tucker's shoulder and the glass which was where the stress on the neck came from. I think your making my point for me. Ruutu saw Tucker against the boards and should have let up. It's called having respect for another player. I love the way Ruutu plays. I don't want to see him lose his edge but at the same time I don't want to see somebody die one day on the ice. With the size and the speed of the players today if the lack of respect from one player to another continues we will one day see a death on the ice. Listening to Ruutu's apologize I really feel bad for him. He had no intention of hurting Tucker.

If Ruutu was the one who was dragged off the ice we would be calling for a lifetime suspension. This hit is no different then the Orpik hit on Cole. Only difference is Cole broke his neck and very easily Tucker could have had the same thing happen to him. Flat out if you see the opposing players numbers against the boards you are suppose to let up. Driving his head into the glass is a dirty play period. You can't argue with that. The team actually caught a break only getting a 3 game suspension. The league has mandated to stop these kind of hits. I don't want to see that kind of play for or against the Canes.
  8. Here is a question for you'll. First of all I want to say before I ask this question, I love the way Ruutu plays the game. But is he really a first line player? He doesn't seem to have the consistency to play every night on the first line. Some nights I think wow this guy is a all star and the next night he looks like a fourth line player. Walker is playing as well or better then Ruutu right now and the team had Walker on the fourth line to start the season.
  9. [quote name='caniac-97 wrote: cjslumber']80 games still remain but we need to make some improvements in order to live up to the expectations of the GM. I hope I'm very wrong but age is my biggest concern of this team. I didn't agree with the Aaron Ward signing from the beginning and what I've seen from the first two games it's much worst then I thought. He might be well spoken and articulate but he is completely overrated. I would love to see some younger guys get a chance to crack this lineup if the play of this team continues. we didn't sign Aaron Ward but traded for him and unloaded a similar contract in Eawes(sp). You don't bring up the younger guys to try on the top 2 lines or top 2 defensive pairings unless you are pretty much done for the season. We still got a lot of games to play. I think you totally missed my point. You are correct we traded for Ward, no we didn't sign him in free agency. I just don't see the value on A. Ward at all. He looked like a hero last year because he played with the best defensemen in the league. If you ask me Alberts has proven that he is the best off season move. I never said that my expectation of the younger guys are to play as a top 6 forward or a top 4 d-man. My point even after we won last night is that we are old and slow. At some point we've got to give some younger guys that we drafted a chance to play a role on this team. I don't think we have made our team any stronger from last year. The team is a year older and a year slower. Just look at the energy Conboy gave the team last night ,he played very few minutes but every time he was on the ice he played like he had something to prove. Again I hope I'm totally wrong but this team doesn't look like a playoff team to me.

  11. "Most of us are over 30 so lets get dirty"
  12. To answer your question. yes I'm bored!!!!
  13. So your comparing Ruutu and OV? I'm not sure if that's fair comparison. I believe OV gets more hype for his 60 goal seasons then his physical play. To me maybe making the comparison to a second tier player like Cole might be a little more fair.
