  1. Ever thought about who are the "common elements" throughout years of frustration, broken promises and frequent futility??? That's right Jim & Pete! Come on they think we are rubes that will swallow their BS/
  2. I am a FORMER 16 year STH. I promised my self this past summer that the first day they went on strike was the day I was going to ask for a refund -- which I did. I'm not trying to incite a riot but I am very curious about one thing. At this point why would any STH still have "money in the pot"? Do they really deserve to have anybody's money in their pockets at this point???
  3. I completely undestand your position. You paid good money based on the promise of quality entertainment. In today's world it is very difficult to justify wasting any kind of money. I am in a similar situation having full season tkts. However I am trying to sell as many tkts as I can to at least recoup some of my money and I have decided to end my 14 year run of having season tkts -- I will not renew next year. I just don't see this team being run any different as long the current ownership and management are in place.
  4. As I said three weeks earlier and with all due respect to the detractors that commented on this thread, this is the only way management and owners are going to listen. We have wasted another three weeks of effort, time and only increased the frustration and anger of fans. Again, Just Don't Go.
  5. How about 14 years of support from Game #1 and over $100K worth of STH support -- that enough "manning up" and being a real fan for you?
  6. First response is -- let them go! Do you really believe that their loyalty and best interests are for Raleigh. They really don't care as long as they make money -- hence we got the "priviledge" of getting the Harford Whalers. Ask Hartford how departurre of the Whalers made their city any less spectacular or unihabitable. When you pay the kind of money you pay to go to a hoceky game you expect and deserve to see a certain level of professional quality, committemnt on the ice and a management effort that provides a quid pro quo for their customer. Don't get me wrong -- I enjoy watching hockey and am a real fan. I just don't like being duped into believing this is the best we can do because we are a "small market" team. I think the real answer is that the managemenet and ownership of this team is "small minded".
  7. Plain and simple. The only way for change and to get the attention of management is to impact them financially. Don't go to any more games until some significant changes are made to this team. We can't have a Stanley Cup team every year. However we DO deserve a quality product that is exciting and entertainting to watch. And "small market" team doesn't cut for me. If we can't have a quality product on the ice then don't have hockey teams in "small markets".
  8. Staal should NOT be considered as an All Star. He has not earned that title and for him to even be considered for this year's team is a disrespect to the NHL and to the REAL stars of the league. Don't be a "homer" and vote for this pretender.
  9. I agree with you dj. We need a fresh start and "new system" and to bring in Jeff Daniels (who I know has had success with the Checkers) means more of the same. Surprisingly I don't hear many people mention Dave Lewis who certainly has the credentials and experience to run a competent team and be a leader. Is that the reason JR brought him in as a possible "next in line"? Yet the real question is will JR give a new coach the leeway and respect to run the team in a way that will create success? Likely not as JR wants it done a certain way and MO has bascially been his yes man. Finally there is one other comment. I don't buy the BS that keeps being fed -- we are a small market team and we can only have mediocre talent because that is all we can afford. Like many on this board I don't expect a Stanley Cup every two years nor do I expect a deep playoff run every year. However as a paying customer I do expect a quality product of the ice. That means committed players and coaches who aren't simply skating because its their shift; real effort every game and a level of consistency in executing a game plan. Not asking too much am I???
  10. It not only often leaves us in the dark but also usually leaves us out of the playoffs.
  11. Hey after tonight's game only 4 MO consecutive losses and JR will take this seriously. SERIOUSLY??? Even Keith Jones announcing the game said he didn't see much difference in the energy and play following yesterdays "tough" talk to the team. And they couldn't get Ward off of the ice when they needed to.
  12. If Chip Alexander is correct in his blog, and I have no reason to believe he is not, Karmanos and Rutherford show incredible arrogance, lack of understanding of what the "real world" situation is and offer a slap in the face to the fan base of this team. After 14 years of supporting this team and literally spending nearly $100K in season tickets over those years, I AM DONE!!!
  13. Good luck to the new investors -- I really hope you did the full dillengence and understand what you have gotten yourselves into. This is a team whose upper manaagement will not do the necessary actions to keep a quality, consistent product in front of its fans. But then it has always been said that "theres a sucker born every minute".
  14. How many times are we willing to hear the same old same old??? After every game, regardless if its the "Aftermath" on radio or the next day in the N&O we keep getting fed the same broken record -- "we played a great 20 or 40 mintues of hockey"; our defensive positioning was poor; we need to keep up the energy level; we need to go to the "dark areas"; we need to support Staal with different wings to get him more involved; and you all know the rest of the BS they feed us. So my question is: WHEN IS ENOUGH ENOUGH?? HOW MUCH LONGER ARE YOU WILLING TO ATTEND GAMES AND SUPPORT OWNERSHIP AND A COACH THAT JUST SIMPLY WANT YOUR MONEY WITHOU PUTTING A VIABLE PRODCUT ON THE ICE?? For those of you who continue to look at everything through the rose colored glasses keep enjoying being suckered. For those of us who have been with this team for 14 years many of us are more than frustrated. You are going to lose more fans and that maybe ok with you Messrs. Rutherford and Karmanos. So if that happens you simply pull another "Hartford". But there are many fans who hold you accountable for the poor performance and the blind loyalty that you demonstrate at the expense of your team and fans.
  15. Has anyone else noticed that the "gifts" the Canes have been giving to STHs and for other promotional giveawayes in general all come with the "Made in China" tag? First of all in the middle of a recession how about finding something that is either made in the US or Canada if we really want to be faithful to the roots and fan base of hockey. Second for people that spend nearly $5,000 a year for "premium" seats do you think 1 (one) 100% acrylic scarf is a sincere showing of thanks given the inconsistent level of performance we have to see every game?
  16. While I am pleased that we won last night I also have mixed feelings about it. Every game we win means MO stays another 20 games. I think we should suffer the pain now and get rid of him rather then streach it out like we did last year.
  17. TSA since we have only had MO and Lavi as the two coaches of this franchise since coming to NC I would say we don't really have a good base of diversity to judge against. That being said, Lavi was and is a completely different coach and one who has achieved much more success that MO -- Stanley Cup at Carolina and recent final and playoff success in Philly. The thing about Lavi was his lack of "dump and chase" style that I personally believe offers often hinders our ability to use speed and skill to our advantage. However given the mediocre defensive talent that we currently have on the ice, I am not sure that they could play an up-temp style. I also believe that the 08 season was a combination or post cup let down, but more importantly star player let down. That to me was one of the often seen Cane years in which you never knew who was going to show up on ice from game to game. Staal set the tempo often by seeing if he could be the first guy off ice at the end of his shifts as well as unwilling to "mix it up" on defense or offense. Finally I have often heard and believe that for some reason there was bad blood between Lavi and Rutherford and/or Karmanos. Lavi was one to give preferential treatment to our "stars" and I think upper management had a different vision. Just my take on it and I could be totally wrong.
  18. I don't think anyone on this board would say that Staal is even close to the skill level of Crosby or for that matter any "star" level player. Yes he has put up points but let's look at when those points come. Are they in "big play" situation? Does he carry the team when it needs to be lifted via a big score. When do his points really come -- in the heat of the season when it could make a difference in standings or at the end of the year when ww are ususally "also rans".
  19. I have been to all but about 12 ganes Cames since their arrival in NC. I have gone to road games and travelled to Finland to support our Canes. I have never been a big MO fan but rather than take this to a personal level I would like to express my dissatisfaction on the basis of MO's performance, much of which has been outlined in previous posts on this thread. I would point to two specific issues that I believe relate specifically to a coach (regardless of whether it is MO or not) and that have nothing to do with upper management (I do believe that a "love fest" exisits between Rutherford, Karmanos and Maurice that effectively blinds Rutherford and Karmanos from taking an unbiased look at MO's performance). Point number one relates to the PP. PP is a teachable skill that is fully dependant upon one of two things. Either we don't have the player skill levels to execute a realiable powerplay advantage or the coach is not able to teach that skill in a way that translates to success. I believe we have a baseline of talent that should be able to consistently execute a successful PP. Therefore my belief is the problem lies with the coach and his staff. This area has been a consistent problem area for most of the Canes' 14 seasons in NC and most of those seasons have been coached by MO. Point number two realtes to defensive positioning. Again a similar logic is mind here. Defensive positioning is a teachable skill. Now on this point I question the skills and abilities of a number of our defensive players so it could in part be a lack of talent. However I also see the same consistent problems regarding poor positioning, poor execution and just pure laziness. This something the coach can and must change. As this problem occurs with great frequency should I assume the coach is not willing to "kick some butt" and/or does not know how to teach our defense the proper skills to remedy the situation? It is these two areas that I consistenly point to that, among a host of others, are solid reasons why MO must go. And, I think the only way that upper management will finally get the message is via the cash register. People who are consistenly fed up with this attitude and lack of real action to put a good CONSISTENT team on the ice should react by laying out for a couple of games. Sure watch it on TV or listen to it on the radio. But until management really understands, and more importantly cares about fan frustration and the dollars we spend for entertainment, there is little incentive to change.
  20. They need a few more players with grit that are not afraid to go to and stay in front of the offensive net. They need more physical play among all of their players but especially the defense. Think about the games this year when they are banging the boards and the success that often brings. Finally, as mentioned in this thread as well as others -- get some coaches that will teach, lead and fire this team up.
  21. Dear Sanhill No disprect intended in this reply but to your point, how many State Fans wish that State would have a consistent quality team year in year out (note that does not mean winning the ACC or NCAA championships each year) that played quality basketball and grew in ability and success? I think the same principles apply to the Canes. I for one do not expect a Stanley Cup, Conference or even Division flag each year. What I do expect when I pay my hard earned dollars for this entertainment is that management, coaching and the team are committed AND WILL EXECUTE to their best abilities. That means showing fire, leadership and progress. And that they are held to and accept accountability for their actions rather then offer excuses. We do not get that at this point.
  22. Nerd let's agree this is a mediocre coach coaching a mediocre team. However a quality coach (note I am not saying an outstanding coach) has the ability, like any good manager in business, to get the very best and maybe even improve the productivity of a mediocre employee or team. This is not the case when MO can not even teach the basic simple skills of consistently going to the net or the ability for this team to consistently find ways to control the puck in the offensive zone during the PP. Last night's game vs the Caps was a prime example when in the 3rd period we had a PP (with the "chips" on the line) and we had difficulty getting the puck into the zone. In that specific PP we had NO shots on goal. This happens all the time. My point is that these should be "teachable" skills that when executed should show improvment over time. Mo has not done that well in a number of areas where the coach can and does have the juice to make it happen. If the players can't learn and execute then they are not living up to what we continually hear from JR is a talented young team. Everyone has potential but when the coach can't bring the potential to life the coach and/or the player should be suspect.
  23. If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck and smells like a duck then it must be a duck Vet. People are tired of all the excuses and hearing the same things over and over again about why this team isn't winning. The fact of the matter is that someone needs to be accountable and it seems that the senior most management of this organization isn't willing to point the finger at the two people who are ultimately accountable -- JR & Mo. This repeatedly underperforming performance would not be allowed in any other BUSINESS. Why are we as paying customers being asked to settle for mediocrity?
  24. Since Jimmy loves to recycle players and coaches let me make the suggestion that it is time to recycle a well-respected, productive and effective former Canes coach. I vote for brining back Lavy. Anyone else support or disagree? From the sounds and looks of the crowds on Brindy night, Lavy would be a solid favorite. Come on Jimmy -- do another one of your re-tread acts. This time it will pay off.
  25. Actually I believe that Mo and the Canes making the playoffs are closely tied together. The Canes will not make the playoffs because at best they are currently a mediocre team. However more troubling is the fact that mediocre teams will never get better when they are led by a mediocre coach and a mediocre captain. The coach and the captain apparently know what the hurdles are ("no legs or energy in the firs period"; "we need to work on our power play"; "our defense needs to play with more focus"; we need to throw the puck at the net more often"; "we need more dirty goals" -- eg translate that as being tough in front of an opponents net). However they either choose to do nothing about those issues or perhaps more likely MO can't either teach them how to correct the issues or inspire them to change their bad habits. MO was a loser when he was here the first time, while he was in Toronto and now while he is here a second time. Until Jim Rutherfor and Peter Karmanos can get out of the "go cheap" mode and get a coach that can teach, inspire and instill a passion to play good sound hockey consistently the Canes will always be a team on the edge of making the playoffs rather than a cosistent playoff team. My two cents after watching and following this team from game #1 in Greensboro.
