That is my entire point here. Sign Souray to QB the top pp line then come back with Kaberle for the #2 unit.
Quarterbacking the PP doesn't equal a lethal shot from the point, which is Souray's forte but little else. He often gets caught flat-footed on D, gets out of position too often and has poor lateral mobility. For what he is going to be looking for, he is way too expensive for a guy whose real value is PP specialist.
The Canes' problem is entering the zone on the PP and keeping it there. When you don't have somebody he can skate it in when needed or consistently execute a crisp pass to get it in your PP falls into disarray because you never get set up and your scoring chances dwindle. How many times did the Canes get zero shots on the PP this season? Way, way too many.
Souray isn't the kind of guy whose speed and moves will back off PKers who will look to hold the blueline, like Gonchar for example. Souray isn't the answer for ails the PP.
If it were me, I'd make a push for J-M Liles via a trade, who is a much better fit for the Canes' scheme and much less expensive than Souray.
I'd take J-M Liles...
