  1. I read or heard somewhere that Gold is more important to your nation than the Cup.  That is awesome that you have passion for your players.

Trust me, I am probably the hardest on Pitkanen.  He gets no free passes from me.  There are games that I will say dang it Joni, with another word used instead of dang.  There are games where I will say a goal was all on him.  So, I will probably fit in great over there.  LOL  He is a very nice guy though, as are all the Finns on our team, and I'm sure the others are as well.  wink.gif

I think that one Belarus goal was partially on him for not telling the forward pressure was right behind him.  Like I said, hopefully he improves his next game.

  2. That is very correct . Good luck with that. Our language is not very easy , because it ´s so different from germanic languages,

and the pronunciation is very different. We pronounce  letters in words in same form that they are pronounced in alphabet.

Finnish language also has lots of words that are the same but have very different meaning, so you have to guess from the nuances

of the speech or from the context that the word is in what the meaning of it is. Does this last sentence make any sense?

I just wrote it, but i´m not sure i understand it...

Good lord, what a geek i am. grin.gif

You are not telling me anything that I haven't already run across.  I will agree your language is hard, but if I can get some phrases down, I should be okay.  At least with how I am learning comes with a CD that has people speaking the words in Finnish, so I can get the pronuciation correct.  LOL

You're not a geek...I am a geek for learning a language I will rarely learn, but it is a challenge.  I'm enjoying it.  Now, that was a geek statement.  LOL

Maybe next game he will play better
. He does get better the more he plays, maybe he just needed to get one game under him and know what is expected of him. Same way with his first every play off race with Philly. He didn't know what to expect, so next game should be better for him. He can quarterback the offense.

Ruu is Ruu...glad to see his physicality coming back. We love those hits he does.

I think he does. It was his fourth game in national team. ? Anyway, i was a little dissapointed in him , because i expected

him to score highlight reel goals here and give a magical pass there. After that he should have punished those Belarussians

with a bone crushing hit. So thats just my fault , expecting maybe tad too much.

The passing yes, he can do that, but highlight reel goals, no.  He has a great shot from the point and it should go in more than it does.  He can make those passes to Jussi since they have played together for so long.  Maybe a another practice will get him used to his team mates tendencies.  There's not much time to adjust in the Olympics.

Joni is my favorite player, but he is not free of my criticism.  LOL

Okay, I love the guitar in that song. That opening melody is awesome! guess I'll be getting on itunes tonight. LOL I really like this song. Yes Portisfreak, you got me hooked. LOL

You´ll meet me there for sure. Amorphis is very good. They take their lyrics from our national epic poem Kalevala. If you´re looking to understand us finns , i strongly recommend that you read it. From there you can find out that we  don´t need guns and swords to destroy our enemy. We just simply sing them to swamp. http://www.finlit.fi/kalevala/index.php?m=162&l=2Thanks for the link.  I've saved it to my favorites.  I can read this during my lunch break.

I do have a question though, is this a book I can order from say like Borders or Barnes and Noble, or is it just on this site?

  7. Jussi Jokinen
This is a good looking man!  What's wrong with you, it's your camera...it takes bad pic'seek.gif

I don't dispute that Jussi is a good looking man.

The Jokinen we were talking about being ugly and keeping cameras away from was Olli Jokinen.  Completely different Jokinen.  Check our messages, no where was it mentioned that Jussi was ugly.  Now Olli Jokinen on the other hand is another story.    wink.gif

Gotcha.  I can't find much Finnish music though.  Got a couple of Finnish bands, more of the main stream ones.  Well End of You isn't that main stream and neither is Ember's Flame.  Maybe I will hear something that I like when I'm there and pick it up.

Thanks for the link.  I see a couple of bands I already have, like H.I.M. and The 69 Eyes.  I guess The 69 Eyes really aren't main stream either.  LOL  Can't wait to check the others out.  Thanks a bunch!

  9. Team Finland lines against Belarus are:

    Filppula- M. Koivu - Ruutu

    Hagman- o.jokinen - Miettinen

    Lehtinen- S.Koivu - Selänne

    Peltonen - N.Kapanen - J.Ruutu

    Timonen - Salo

    Pitkänen - Kukkonen

    Lydman - Lepistö

    Starter: Kipper

    Backup: Bäckström

I think that Jussi would have been better on the first line with those two than Filppula, But i guess that

Jalonen knows what he is doing. Gold medal is the only option for this team. And i profoundly hate olli jokenen.

I was heart broken to hear that Jussi wasn't going.  I had a good luck in the Olympics poster for Ruutu and Pitkanen.  Should have had Jussi's name on there too.

Then you won't get upset when I refer to Olli Jokinen as Ugly Jokinen.  laugh.gif  I keep my camera away from him.

  10. Forgot to mention I saw several Team Finland jersey's in the arena for the NJ game.  Saw a Pitkanen jersey on someone sitting on the glass for warm ups and a Ruutu jersey on someone in the premier concession area pre-game too.  Pretty nice looking jersey's, Im willing to bet the Ruutu jersey I saw belonged to Dreamie wink.gif
I was the one in the Pitkanen jersey.  Sporting two Finnish posters.  smile.gif  It's not the newer one, but it's still a Finland jersey.  I would love another one with the newer design on it.  Maybe in the off season.

The Finnish style is not to tell you good things about our country
, keep this in mind while reading. The weather in Helsinki in October is terrible. It is dark, 5-10 Celsius-degrees (40-50 F-deg.), you don't be seeing the sun at all. Also (as a native) I think there's not much to see in Helsinki. Everything is smaller in Europe than in North America and Helsinki is relatively expensive place (depends on the exchange rate between Euros and USD, of course). However, if you just want to discover the life in here, this is a very good opportunity. October is also a good time to see some landscape in Lapland (Northern Finland; one should probably go there in September already).

There are also good things about Finland: The general infrastructure in Finland works very well, the customer service is good, people are honest and helpful (but you have to ASK for help if you need it). Everybody in major cities speaks (or at least understands) English, but if you know some words in Finnish, it is very much appreciated. If you happen to be a celebrity, you might be disappointed, because everybody gets the same service in Scandinavia. It may be hard to find real luxus stuff (service etc.) in Finland, but in general where ever you go, there really should not be anything to complain about. Finland in general is not a bad place to be.

And yes, it is very easy to get to the arena, it's one train stop from the city center (all the trains stop on that station). If there will be games against Finnish teams, there will be some in Helsinki and then most probably in Tampere or perhaps Oulu, both nice towns (210 000 and 130 000 inhabitants, ~160 and ~500 km to North from Helsinki, respectively).

Information about the arena can be found at

Information about Helsinki can be found at

Information about Finland can be found at
    and

If you have any questions, I am glad to answer. Also I would love to meet people from this forum in Helsinki.

Maybe that is why no one wants to come here. Damn those polar bears that roam the streets, yearning for raw human flesh to eat.

Yes , actually maybe i was a little too positive in my introduction of Helsinki. Here comes the reality. Finnish people are rude , ugly and fat.

We never smile to anyone, and if we by some mistake do, people run away because our dental hygiene is poor, as is our hygiene all together.

The sun never shines here so we are very pale and we have humanoid-like eyes, with which we stare into nothingness, while roaming this

    agonizing road to oblivion.

Summer is very brief here, and everytime we seem  to miss it  because our state of hibernation is too deep.

So we never wake up completely, we live in a kind of a dream world. That is how are we , the finns , and our nation of suffer.

Infrastructure here is very DDR like, Working fine, but everyhings bleak , here´s nothing to see. All of our traditions are based on losing battle with glory , that is why we never win anything. ( It comes from the TALVISOTA) So this is more accurate description about us and our poor

nation. And by the way, we do not want any foreign people coming here messing our self-pity and egoism with their sunny smiles and

    cheerful attitude.

ROFL!!!  You sure you aren't a bunch of Goths?  If so, I will fit in perfectly.  LOL  tongue.gif  It's great to have you guys here.

I'll make sure to keep my smiling to a minimum while I'm there.  I may steal a polar bear or two.  wink.gif  wonder if I can get them on the plane back.
