  1. NOT ENOUGH IMO. I don't think this sends the message that the NHL keeps preaching in reference to targeting the head NEW YORK – Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson has been suspended for three games, without pay, for an illegal check to the head of Carolina Hurricanes forward Jiri Tlusty during NHL Game No. 176 in Columbus on Tuesday, Nov. 4, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today. The incident occurred at 7:31 of the third period. Johnson was assessed a minor penalty for illegal check to the head. Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and, based on his average annual salary, Johnson will forfeit $70,276.50. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.
  2. Semin did seem a little more engaged last night than in previous outings, but hardly what I would consider to be satisfactory for a player with his capability. I think he will get another game to redeem himself, assuming the practices go good. I didn't think he was terrible, but I didn't think he showed anything that would change Peters attitude towards him based on the reasons he sited for benching him either. Anyone see it differently?
  3. Semin out for 2 games, 2 wins. What do you do now and how short a leash does Peters give him. Tricky situation for a Coach. It will be interesting to see how Peters handles it and the response that Semin brings. Has to be very hard to mess with something that's working, even in the absence of the $7 million dollar man. If he would return to what he is capable of, could get very interesting.
  4. I'm thinking that Semin will like this. In all the previous games, he had to put on all that gear and skate around a little bit. Now he can leave his street clothes on and observe from afar. Not much difference from what he has been doing the first 8 games, absent the gear
  5. We do agree that we aren't making the playoffs
  6. I didn't say the roster sucked, although parts of it IMO do. When you haven't won a game and you start with 8 straight losses, it is hard to find other adjectives to fit the description, which is why I used the term sucks. Very sorry to have rubbed you wrong with my opinion of where we are. You have a great day!! I have embraced it and I am over it.
  7. We have 2 goalies in a race to capture the backup position. Only in Raleigh!
  8. We lost to Buffalo already. I would think that makes us worse than them, or maybe I am looking at it wrong? Has Florida won a game? Let's face the factsand be honest, we SUCK HORRIBLY!! I don't like it either but it is what it is. And it is hilarious to see people put up here we lost because of the refs. The damn refs don't have a stick! I have yet to see a ref score a goal for the other team. They make bad calls or fail to make calls from time to time but we don't have the size, talent or $ to compete this year...plain and simple. That is REALITY....and it ain't fun.
  9. too bad for Toronto that they weren't working this deal when JR was here. He would have probably given them Staal for future considerations based on his track record a few years before he left. IF something happens, I think Semin would look good in blue so throw him in there just to fill up the box.
  10. Not digging, just making an observation. Maybe you see it differently, maybe you have seen the pre-season games and I have not had that luxury. He hasn't appeared to me as though he has wanted the puck in the 2 games against New York. I seriously question if his injury is still bothering him.
  11. From the 3 games I have seen, it appears to me that message number 1 should have been sent to Semin, not Hainsey. I never saw Hainsey skating around like it was Sunday afternoon at the local rink. Semin appears as though he has no sense of urgency or care whatsoever. I am sure he does, but I don't see it. I am sure that the depletion of the lineup has kept him from getting the hammer, but someone damn sure needs to get his attention IMO. Shoot the puck and quit trying to make the highlight pass!!! Put it on net where you can create opportunities! All that talent with no drive. You know that has to be frustrating as hell to coach.
  12. Exactly. Center Ice is OK, but not the preferred method.
  13. Be careful what you wish for. You might have to drive 2300 miles to watch them play if this happens.
  14. I think he may end up being a much better forward than d-man. The kid is talented and fast, but he gets used and abused in a defensive role. Washington wore him out Sunday afternoon (along with the rest of our d). I would love to see him stick at forward. Judging by the way this season has started, Kudobin or Ward may be on the blue line before we get to Thanksgiving!!
  15. If it isn't coming together by December 1, I think it is time to light the fuse without a doubt. The problem is.....who are you going to get to take your inflated contracts? How are you going to get rid of the pieces that may or may not be the problem? Nobody else is going to want them, unless we retain salary, then what do we have? Buy them out and what do you use to get more players? Especially on the tight budget that it appears PK has placed on RF. It appears that we are in a situation that will probably force us to wait out the contracts that are in place before we can start a rebuild. I am no expert by any means, somebody please tell me that I am looking at it wrong and that there is a way out of it that I don't foresee.
  16. On a brighter side: Chip Alexander @ice_chip Elias Lindholm is expected to be on ice and practice today. Injury said to be a bruise.
  17. If our defensive effort against Washington was what we consider to be the best we have to offer, do you really think whoever starts in goal will matter much? This teams problem ain't in goal (right now), HELL, that is the only bright spot at this point!! Who would have thought that 2 months ago?
  18. I dare ANYONE to make an argument in opposition of this statement! That folks.......is just the sad, despicable truth.
  19. They can both be great, but it won't make much difference if nobody can put it in the net at the other end. Right now, our Goalie tandem is the best looking thing we have!!
  20. Well, after seeing this I am depressed. The canes were: 1. too slow 2. too small 3. no physicality whatsoever (see #2) 4. Captain taking stupid penalties 5. Appeared our guys were just trying to get rid of the puck to avoid getting hit on more than one occasion (see #2) If tonight is any indication of what we have to look forward to, it is going to be one long damn year.
  21. Maybe this is a sign!!! Chip Alexander‏@ice_chip 2h Blast from the past: for some reason Andrei Loktionov's name appears on PNC Arena scoreboard.
  22. I really hope and feel confident that the few changes made will bring different results of a positive nature this year. I also agree with the statement below. If by Thanksgiving this team has not shown that they are capable, I do think it will be time to light the fuse and blow it up. At least I hope that is what they do. Then again, I have thought that for the last 2-3 years and not very much has changed. You can't make chicken salad out of chicken &%$#. If the new GM and new Coach don't change it, maybe new players will.
  23. Saw the single ticket prices for the first time yesterday. WOW!!! That will just about do us in. We normally sit in the lower south end and the prices have gone up significantly
  24. Read this today. Take it for what it is worth. Luke DeCock: “Don’t work yourself up over” Dan Patrick’s speculation about the Hurricanes moving to Las Vegas. Luke DeCock of the Raleigh News & Observer: Hurricanes Peter Karmanos is looking to sell chucks of the team to local investors, but he’s been more involved with the team and not less even as he searches for investors. The Hurricanes arena lease gives them the incentive to remain as they control the arena. Relocating to Vegas and not through expansion would cost the owners money.Dan Patrick: From a financial source, it’s a done deal and there will be a team in Las Vegas by 2016. Question being, will it be an expansion team or by relocation. Patrick then says that two relocation candidates are the Coyotes (there is a clause in their deal that the NHL can step in if they are losing “x” amount of money) and the Hurricanes. Owner Peter Karmanos is reportedly asking for an exorbitant amount of money for the team. The owners would prefer a expansion as they would get more money.
