  1. We are looking at 47 if we sign 4 of our draft class and have a full roster + a 7th Dman and 13th forward or we have 7 available contracts outside of NHL roster requirements. Now 6 with Carrick's signing.
  2. I thought that was Saarela. Mentioned he tore up AHL but his shoulder injury may keep him from being ready to make a charge to the big club. Then again I may have missed his reference to Zykov.
  3. Gauthier will be there but I don't see him getting a look. He needs to improve his skating a bunch. In my estimation, the names I gave have the best chance. Fluery and Saarela have the best chance (GMRF mentioned Saarela specifically). Roy has an outside chance because he was in the Q league. Kuokkanen is hard to gauge playing in Europe.
  4. I agree with that. My point was from a roster spot stand point. We want a top line center. After this season, we would have the new guy, Staal, Rask, Aho, and if not traded Roy for our top 3 center slots. GMRF believes Aho is a center and we aren't trading the new guy. We are left with 1 extra with Staal and Rask left. Knowing how cheap we are and how much we've invested in Rask, the odd man out is Staal. I don't see us getting a big center with picks and prospects.
  5. 1 positive this year is prospect camp is before FA starts. The team could get an idea if Saarela, Kuokkanen, Roy, and Fleury are serious contenders for roster spots. That could also effect UFA period. I know GMRF didn't feel like there were options in our ranks but someone can come in and blow the doors off.
  6. I believe IF we pick up a 1C or 1.5 center this offseason, we'll try and trade Staal next off-season. We offer our 1st next year in a trade with good faith we get one back with a Staal trade. Francis has made it clear they want to get Aho in a center spot, preferably next year. With that said, I don't see a Staal move this season. the future of the team is a Remkin length post . But a Staal trade in the future will definitely help save some money. Cap strapped team deals are still the way to go but from what I seen, they are long term investment deals. Outside of LV, most cap strapped teams don't have a lot of 1 year contracts.
  7. To me there goes the chance of getting a top 6 center. We aren't paying a 4th line center a bunch if money. We'll get a 4th line center and a veteran winger of some sort, maybe 2.
  8. Radulov wants 6 years at 7 million AAV. Pass Gagner would be great but, he'll be signed to a ridiculous contract due to the lack of big time FAs. Due to my lack of believing in PK, we'll sign some veterans to 2 year deals. We will need to shed salary over the next 2 years because of re-signings. We are going to add additional 12-14 million in defense money next season. We'll add another 10-15 million of O money with raises to Lindholm, TT, Skinner, and Aho over the next two offseasons. So at best we add two old vets that we'll lose the contracts over 2 years. I believe that listening to GMRF. He has mentioned looking at FAs if we get the right term and being smart with additions because of the extra money needed the next 2 offseasons. Williams or Vrbata fits that need. I would say big joe if he didn't have knee destruction before the playoffs. No idea how he'll return. I believe Bonino and Hanzal will want more term than we want to give.
  9. Dont care. Pass on Kovalchuk. His term will kill our cheap ways in 2 years.
  10. I doubt this year, possibly next. They will have to shed salary when Draisaitl is making 7-8 million and McDavid 10+ million.
  11. I believe most of the names wont go anywhere, especially Gagner. Some team will be dumb enough to pay him 50 point money despite his prior performances. Hanzal will want too much term If we are going super cheap over the next 2 seasons, a veteran or 2 signings will be the route. Williams would be a great 2 year signing to bridge young guys. Vanek as well if we could get him for 2 years. Unfortunately with the lack of good UFAs, the wing UFAs will get more money/term than they should. GM Wilson has said he wants to re-sign Marleau and Thornton. My guess Thornton wouldn't be ready until late November.
  12. FAs I hope we talk to over the next week: In order of preference of want C: Sam Gagner Hanzal Big Joe RW: Williams Vrbata LW: Vanek Sharp Marleau
  13. Sucka a couple of thoughts. cheap route- PDG, McGinn, and Ryan re-sign. 4th line center brought in an older veteran winger for 2 years. Skinner-Rask-Aho Veteran-Staal-Lindholm TT-Ryan-Stempniak McGinn-Vet-PDG Ryan, I believe wants something more than a 4th line shot. He is 30 so I can't blame him. He'll more than likely be back though. With Capitals being in a world of hurt for cap space, cap tight deals are possible. I think another top 9 guy would will be added. It could be a serious acquisition or a veteran that will clear out in 2 years. Needless to say it's disappointing to hear the same things from GMRF.
  14. TBH I think based on Joe's asking price, his production, and contract term his name fell off the rumor mill.
  15. We'll be close 50 contracts after the draft unless we make trades. We have 37 now. We need 4 O players to make 12 but probably get 5 more. Sign 4 to 5 picks now and the others after they finish school. Gives us roughly 47, number will fluctuate if we fill vacant O slots with prospects.
  16. Relying on the European scout big time as most picks are outside their rankings. The Mattheos pick was a good value baed on ranking and where they were drafted. The big Dmen we drafted in the second round had good reviews from the announcers. Maturity is there already.
  17. Man the Strome brother fell all the way to the 4th round. Supposedly 1st round hands and skills but atrocious skating. Supposedly the same reason Vilardi fell as far.
  18. Maybe I missed your point. What did you mean is he signed yet?
  19. Got a 2nd Eetu with our 4th round pick G Eetu Markiniemi. Also Finnish
  20. Mattheos article looks like a solid pick in third. According to the article, seems like a good 3rd line center but could be more. He is one of those prospects who played in the shadow of another prospect, Nolan Patrick. He may have been rated higher if he had a prominent role for 2 years. Only got this high because Patrick was injured.
  21. Man Calgary gave up a bunch of picks for Harmonic. A 1st and 2 2nds. Shows you how much Hanafin, Faulk, etc are worth.
  22. Put 90 points in 72 WHL games this year.
  23. Well it doesn't look like we are trading a this year draft pick for anyone serious.
  24. Man another string bean Finnish player then another RHD.
  25. Maybe we can convince LAK to let go of Carter since they got a big center.
