  1. Realm, I see what you're getting at. I see Jordan, Beiga, and Lowe being re-signed. On top of that we add Bean to the mix and it's safe to say another Dman some where else in the draft. I believe we'll be more than ok with trading 1 defenseman this offseason.
  2. My 2nd day wants 43rd- C Mitch mattson- get him in the gym with Brindy and he could fill out that 6'4 frame and become nasty. 57th- LW Brett Murray. why not keep getting bigger? Another skilled forward that needs to fill out the 6'4 frame. 74th- Sommpi. We love the Finns. He is a skilled C but needs to add core strength to prevent being knocked off the puck. 75th- G Murray or Fitzpatrick
  3. What about Vanek? Could add a decent talent to bridge the gap for our younger players. Could be on the cheap since he was bought out.
  4. Murphy isn't going to cut it. He gets whopped behind the net and front in the net. He limited mistakes during his "getting it time" but he's still too small. Again, EDM wants to move but isn't desperate to move. They have plenty of time to jump on a deal that limited on potential. Now with Cam Fowler looking like he is available a big trade could be had with us and EDM. To EDM Fowler McKeown Rights to Murphy (just for you) To ANA Kassian/Letestu CAR 1st rounder (preferably 21st) Lack To Car Rights to Anderson Eberle/Hall EDM 32nd pick I believe this all mutually beneficial. ANA: Moves D payroll, gets a 3rd liner they need, got a short term backup G, and a pick to give them some depth (traded a bunch of others) EDM: woooo got a bunch of D real quick (need to move a roster D player) and moved 2 roster forwards. CAR: got a top line forward, chance to have a top goal tender, and a good pick to compensate the loss of the 1st.
  5. Sure but I'm not sure any team would get a bigger return. Giving up a 3rd line prosoect so some team can take on cap status. The difference is no money is owed to the player, and less burden to the gaining team.
  6. What is their need to create more than the 10 mil in cap space they have now?
  7. Edmonton wants to move a top forward but what GM moves a 64 or 47 point scorer and the 4th for 2 players that will make no worthwhile impact to their roster, a decent D prospect, and the 13th pick? A soon to be fired one, that's who. Edmonton's only gain from a move is freeing up a top spot. They don't need to give away talent for cap space.
  8. I don't believe a good young defenseman, 2 meh players and a 13 pick gets us a top 6 forward and a high pick. IMO, it would be Fleury, PDG or Nordstrom, 13th pick and a 4th rounder. Or Faulk and 13th for Hall and top pick.
  9. I don't believe an offer sheet is the way to go but I am open to trading picks to get a young guy. My exploratory names: Palat (TBL will be in serious cap issues this & next season) Hornqvist (penguins have 3-7 mil in cap space to fill holes) Granlund or Nino (Wild have 7-10 mil to fill 7 holes) Schenn (flyers are close to believed cap and have 3 RFAs and holes left) Available: Nordstrom or Nestrasil, a 1st this year, a 2nd this year, a 3rd this year, a non NHL young adman, and a 2nd next season. Not sure what of that combo would get any deal done. Sign Eriksson to a 5 year deal with a 6.5 aav. The contract would be front loaded. 7.5, 7.5, 7, 5.5, 5.
  10. PK17, TB has to decide between star power and ridiculous depth for next season. And they may have to trade one of their 5 top 4 defensemen if the cap doesn't reach 74 mil (many expect it won't). They definitely will have a serious offseason next year with deciding which forwards stay and which go.
  11. The biggest question mark will be the salary cap level. Ole Gary swears it will go up about 4 million but he was 1.8 million off last off seasons estimate. On top of that many speculate that if they follow the CBA salary cap calculation to the T, the cap may go down. The Canadian dollar has fallen in worth. Blackhawks, Penguins, and a few others will be in serious trouble with a small to no cap increase. The cap pressure could drive Faulk's price up as well. A very good defender signed to a cap friendly deal.
  12. Did the Gudbranson trade raise the value of young, good defensemen? It's either a bad trade by the Canucks that every other GM laughs off or Faulk would get a really significant return.
  13. I believe this is a year we steal away good Lightning players because of their cap issues. This won't be 1 year issue it will be over the next 3 if Stamkos stays. 3 way trade. To TBL 2016 CAR #13 pick Rights to Murphy or not yet ready D prospect EDM 3rd or 4th rounder To EDM Anton Stralman 2016 2nd rounder (NYR) 2017 2nd rounder (CAR) To CAR Ondrej Palat Leon Draisaitl Why does TBL do it? They have to re-sign Stamkos, Kucherov, and about 2 other big contributoring FAs. In reality, if Stamkos stay and Kucherov are re-signed, TB will not be able afford Palat. It seems like TB is giving up a lot but they don't have much choice. I'm sure that will be everyone's sticking point in the proposal but TB have to take the Chicago approach to keep Stamkos and Co. TB can use the 1st rounder and get a roster player for low impact. Why does EDM do it? They are going to get a solid pick in the draft and have a plethora of young scoring. Stralman gives EDM a solid top 4 guy that is 26 and signed for a couple of seasons. They will have a pretty good D when Stralman is added. Why do the Canes do it? They have the assets, need to win now, and no one at 13 or 21 is expected to give the team 50+ points next season.
  14. If a Faulk trade with EDM happens then I stay put in the draft. 13th pick C Brown or D McAvoy (seems to be on the rise) 19th pick RW Tufte if his skills are not just because of HS hockey. If not maybe a project in D Stanley or the talented (but falling in some mocks) RW Gauthier. 2nd round Goalie Then one of the SHL HV71s dmen 3rd round Lots of offensive players Use the draft to add some needed organizational depth. Use a couple of FA signings to bridge the gap.
  15. I like the idea from MinjaBen's idea of Draisaitl. I'm not a fan of trading Faulk. He is locked up for a while at a great price. I would prefer to go with Wiz or one of the young guys that did well. We should be able to swing a Drai for Pesce or Slavin and maybe a future 2nd rounder from NYR. Pesce or Slavin and Draisaitl are young unproven players. It would be risk on both parties. I think Versteeg would be good to bring back. Skinner-Draisaitl-Versteeg Lindholm-Rask-Okposo Nestrasil-Staal-Nordstrom I would tell Murphy this D thing isn't working out. I'll give you a 2 way contract to work on becoming a winger. If not he can go elsewhere. Overall the D will be solid with Wiz, Faulk, Hanafin, Pesce/Slavin, Fleury, and Hainsey with Jordan as the #7. I would re-sign Ward to a low dollar contract for 2 years. I have serious doubts we could get Anderson.
  16. Trade I would do with Chicago: Liles and a pick (NYR 2nd or our 3rd) For Harrison, Bickell, and Mark McNeill. Gives a chance to trade Ward to someone while eating half his salary. McNeill is the only thing we want out of the deal. Bickell would gives us a big checking line guy for next season. We need roster fillers right now. Harrison could ride his time on the team to keep us from decimating the checkers
  17. Zykov had a point per game average in the Q league. AHL hasn't gone well.
  18. For clarification, I meant close to playoff contention yearly more so than this year. We really needed something to help us next season to compliment our young D. Those 3 assets, albeit a decent return, will come to fruition 3+ years from now. We'll be riding our D for a while. We don't have many O players that will provide help, either.
  19. The return was a joke from the fact that we didn't get a roster player in return. The team is close to playoff contention and we got 3 year in the future assets. Aleski still has one more year in Finland. It's not like we are a team that attracts big name free agents or can afford to outbid the big teams. Our O is gonna lack for a while. From GMRF's comments Eric more than likely won't be back.
  20. With Wis coming back next season, I say trade Murphy. Faulk, Wis, Hanafin, Hainsey, Slavin, Pesce is a good top 6. Add in Fluery as a possibilty with Jordan as a 7th and we are set. Could get a decent O prospect for Murphy.
  21. GMRF still wants to get Staal and Ward re-signed. Sounds like he believes they will sign for close to what he wanted. The step away comment sounds like we didnt get the deals to make the team better. We may move guys later unless someone comes in with a strong deal after the 1st round of Free agent signings
  22. My armchair stab: Semin wont be moved for anything worth it Trade Khudobin to Buffalo for the rights to Grigorenko and Meszaros. Buffalo doesnt plan on keepin Mes and the GM doesnt like Grigorenko. Grig is risk/reward move. I think an offseason with Brindy would get him into shape to make the roster. Mes can either be a stop gap for Fluery or can stay longer if he turns his game around. Trade Skins to Nashville for Ekholm and the rights to Wilson. Canes need to get younger on D and Ekholm is a good young defender. Wilson is a big guy that will work in our system moreso than Skins. Sign Soderberg to be the shutdown line center @ 3 yrs, 9mil Sign Wilson @ 3 yrs, 10.5 mil Sign Mes to 2 years, 7 mil Draft Crouse #5 if Hanifin is gone. Staal/Staal/Semin Wilson/Soderberg/Lindholm Crouse/Rask/Grig or Nest McClement/Malone/Gerbe Hainsey/Faulk Ekholm/Mes Liles/Belemore This is about a 66 million cap squad with a need for a backup goalie next season (counting Crouse's 3.5 mil cap hit). Should drop to 62 million cap for 2016 season when Ward and Staal's extensions kick in. Now if I was being real crazy, I would trade Liles for a lower pick and sign Sekera. Push hainsey to the 2nd line and Ekholm to the 3rd. It would cost the team another 3-3.5 mil in cap money. The O isnt impressive with this squad but all lines can score, are bigger, and all play a pretty good 2 way game. Most importantly the D got better.
  23. I wonder what it would take to get Kevin Hayes' rights from the Blackhawks. He isnt showing up to Chicago camp because he wants a quicker way into the NHL. He is a 6'4 forward that could be 3rd line center for us or that big RW to play along skins. Might be worth trying to get him.
  24. I read the article. The in between the lines are we considered blowing up, our new to make the playoffs is the coach, and if the team doesnt make the playoffs we could see a blow up this season. It also says we wont be doing anything crazy this offseason with the forwards. I find it odd RF only mentions how Peters is happy with the forwards. Do we see changes in the goalies or D? Sounds like there is a want but not a way.
  25. Well I abe seen E. Staal's name in rumor mill pop up a lot more than I remember. Its more than just fan talk it seems like. Francis did say one was open as long as it benefitted the team. He also mentioned us taking advantage of teams that need to make some cap space.
