  1. Taking over Beantown would be great...as long as we could bring our own food. I've eaten there once, and it was not pretty. I just moved from Matthews to Indian Trail and have now become ever so fond of 485 on my way to work at 6:30am. You do notice a lot more hockey enthusiasts in Southeast Charlotte. Not that there's alot to begin w/ though...
  2. finding canes' fanes in charlotte has been tough for me since i moved her in 05. my couch has treated me well for games though...
  3. as my screen name suggests i live in the charlotte area(guess i should update to "unioncountycane" now since just buying a house in indian trail). regardless, the hd channels on time warner are most def worth the xtra coin per month. i'll be sitting back watching glorious game 7 on channel 263 as opposed to channel 40. the sd fox sports carolinas channel looks especially poopy when the broadcast away games in non-hd...
  4. it would be absolutely idiotic to trade Babchuk. he's proving to be a very effective option from the blueline, will be an RFA and he's what 24? seriously... sure he made a bad decision, but now he's definitely a huge part of the team. also, if he makes outlandish contract demands during the offseason, like over 3mil, the draft picks we would get from the poaching team would be much better compensation than anything we would get in a trade...
  5. this whole thread is nothing but bad bad juju...
  6. the 3rd goal ward gave up last night was a complete joke, that in my opinion set the tone for the rest of the game. he's an average goaltender so far in his career no matter how you look at it. how many times have we outshot the other team this season only to have their goaltender outplay ward? he's lost us far more games with his average/below average play in goal than the 3 or 4 games he's stolen for us...
  7. This is quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever read. Do you want the Hurricanes to end up like Tampa Bay?
  8. the last quote from the preds game news and observer article says it all. when lavi was asked why the team didn't come out and play a full 60 minutes," I don't know why." This to me should be unacceptable. You're the coach, take some responsibility. Also, something that really irks me is that Lavi just shirked off the exit interviews last yr because he didn't see a need. He just seems like such a lax coach, so ready to pass the buck, doesn't take responsibility for his actions. I really do think it's time for a change, hopefully sooner rather than later...
  9. Remember Detroit routinely makes the playoffs and has not suffered over 2 seasons of this effortless hockey. Something must be done. My vote is a shakeup at the top, Lavi's lost the team, time for a new coach.
  10. if i were lavi, i would be readying myself for another job. at the beginning of this year i was 100% behind the coach. now, after seeing the exact same team, i really do believe he has lost the team. it happened in new york, just faster. here, it's just been a horrible two years after the cup win. and now almost a quarter of the way through the season, the same old effortless canes. jr shares some of the blame as well, but he's not going anywhere. we need new blood, new ideas and a new system. lavi's just doesn't work anymore...cycle, cycle, cycle...throw it around the boards...out the puck goes. his personnel decisions this year have been atrocious. brookbank only gets 1 min of icetime? bring up some kid from albany who's hungry. lacouture at least has shown some ability to put the puck in the net and is eager. who knows if keeping brookbank in the lineup is a jr or lavi decision, but in my estimation most of the blame for our team's current malaise falls squarely on the coach. it's his job to get the players ready for games, his job to motivate. judging by the past two years and almost a quarter of this one, he's failing and a change is needed... just my two cents...
  11. ha, would be nice if maybe of more of of rowe's philosophy came through...
  12. -roll 4 lines throughout the whole game-what a novel idea to actually use all players on the bench -stick with the lines-keep them together for more than one game. absolutely no chemistry is being developed when lavi changes the lines every game-maybe try keeping them together for at least five games. -make a strictly checking purpose line centered around brind'amour, 2 scoring lines with staal and cullen, energy line with sutter/helminen. -come up with a better offensive strategy than the dump and endless cycle. have someone to crash the net on every line-ruutu, walker, larose, etc. tell either walker, ruutu or staal to park their big butts in front of the net on the pp and take a beating. score ugly. -conversely-keep 3 d pairs together, if you don't trust a d-man to play more than 5 mins a night, then don't play him, and bring up someone eager to play like borer or carson. it's ludicrous have a dman only get 5 minutes. -play the hot hand-leighton had a great game against ottawa, no reason why he should not have been playing against atlanta. ward has yet to prove he's an elite regular season goalie. he may very well end up that way, but not at the rate he's been playing since winning the cup. -regain the player's trust-it really must be a coaching issue to come out unmotivated so many times in the past 3 seasons.
  13. i was able to watch the whole thing in charlotte...really messed up it was blacked out in the triad area...
  14. really no such luck as to listening to the game on the radio here in charlotte. we're lucky to actually get the fsn feed for games...
  15. this sucks, really no other way to put it. we lose a 30/30 guy for most of the season... that being said, the sky has not fallen. we played our best hockey of last year without brindy and williams. for this season to be successful, i think eaves will be the guy to step in to williams' spot on the 2nd line. hopefully he can handle the load without getting injured. also, this pretty much confirms oneill will be one a 1way deal by the end of camp. jr also probably trades kaberle for another forward or signs a left over free agent on the cheap...training camp will most definitely be interesting...
  16. i'm using firefox. i was however able to get to the site today at work and signed up as a d-man...rock...
  17. So I've been to the 360 site and can't get any of the links to respond w/o my browser hanging up on me. Anyone else having this problem? BTW, the demo is pretty cool...I've gotten 3G, 2A w/ Zetterberg so far in 6 games, almost a point per game. I really like the way deflections seem to work in the demo so far, just head to the front of the net and try to bat the puck when someone lets it fly from the point. I can't seem to do anything w/ Crosby though...more practice I need...
  18. hopefully players are still needed? if so, i'd love to be an offensive d-man! xbox 360 gamertag: arrt vandelay
  19. did you ride the "short bus" in high shcool?
  20. Corvo is great offensively and a godsend for our powerplay, but if he is given extensive even-strength time against a team's first and second lines, I think we're in for another long season.
  21. I really don't see our only 2 right-handed shot d-men playing together(Corvo-Babchuk). I'd prefer to see Corvo on the 3rd pairing anyway to shield him from the from the other teams' better offensive players. But after the pairing of Pitkanen-Gleason, really any combination of our other d-men could make up that second pairing. I'd go w/ something like this... Pitkanen-Gleason Babchuk-Wallin/Melichar Corvo-Seidenberg/Kaberle I'm assuming the bottom 2 pairings could be flipped-flopped based off of performance...
  22. My understanding is that when there is a conflict, the Bobcats' games will be moved to Turner Sports South. There was an article a few months ago to this effect.
  23. Here's my take on O'neill... JR said after LaRose was signed he was done w/ signings. So I'm under the impression that Matt Cullen may not be ready for next season, and JR is looking at O'neill as insurance. But then again, Luke also said Jeff Taffe was contacted about a 2-way deal. This guy could be insurance for Sutter, also he's a big guy 6'3" I think. In any case, I think if you could get either guy on a 2-way deal, then it's a good sign. You can never be too deep at center-ice, and with our record w/ injuries in the past few seasons, insurance is nice to have.
  24. You know we're looking to shed salary right? Vermette wants approx 3.5 million according to all reports. Eaves and Kabs combined make 3.3 mil. You really need to start considering salary when doing your off the wall trade proposals, or at least demonstrate some knowledge of how JR operates.
  25. I'd so be all over this...If I still lived in the Mount. Any Charlotte area Canes fans want to make plans for a weekend road trip?
