  1. Can't understand why they don't give Zach Fitzgerald a shot...very seasoned player,6'2",210,and a tough guy which we definately need on the blue line...we don't get enough scoring out of our blueline for that to be a concern, and fitz brings it every game..same age as carson who keeps getting a shot..watched him all season and he deserves his shot too
  2. I know it is blasphemy to even suggest such a thing, but I am disapointed in the play of Cam thus far. Although he is moving well post to post and scrambling well, lots of medium range shots are getting by him. All the shots clanking off the posts in the Yotes game,2 in on the short side, tells me he is not the same as before. At least half the shots that have beaten him have been short side, and that never used to happen. Now granted our defensive play has been lacking at times which makes any netminder more vulnerable, and there is no reason to disparage with our improved offensive play,it is entirely possible that this could be a non-factor. I'm not a naysayer but as true fan, sometimes like healthy discussion on issues that have been taaaabbbbooooooo in the past. Just wondering if anyone was seeing what I was.????
  3. Although its great to speculate and fill needs at forward and probably at top 4 D, thinking this team can't be competitive if these things don't happen, IMO is defeatism. I mean, come on guys, the 7 and 8 seeds just played in the ECF. The east is just not that strong across the board. This team should have no problem competing for a playoff spot, as is, if need be. The best 3 or 4 teams in the league are in the west. This team already proved that. The flyers just rode a perennial back up goalie to game six in the finals. Lot of parity in this league now. Formula for playoffs-simple-decent start to season, minimal amount of injuries to top 12 players-and our traditional push in FEB- MARCH. JR should make a couple moves, but it is by no means doom and gloom if he doesn't. Remkin's formula for success is very close- few seasoned vets mixed in to mentor youth. Seems like a team just like that just hoisted the cup.
  4. not to be contrary, but the blackhawks mascot refers to the Blackhawk Indians(native americans), not a bird.
  5. Too bad some fans do. I guess it must really suck to be the habs or flyers and their fans right now. I mean 6 weeks ago they could just have started to tank games and they could have a much better pick in the draft coming up. but wait, i forgot the object is to win and try to make playoffs. but they were only 7 and 8 seeds, so the playoffs don't really mean anything. But wait, now they get to play to go to SCF. oh no, they gotta play a 1 or 2 seed from out west. but wait......................................................................................................................................................................................................
  6. [quote name='colliefan wrote: romansperson'] Heh. What will NBC and Versus do without their golden boys now? Heh. They will need to promote the sport instead of the individual. Given the great sport that is hockey, it shouldn't be hard. Its about time they had to do that. Thats what should be done in the first place. Sick of the players always mentioned before the team in marketing spots. I think the NBA started that with MJ. All teams like having great players, but as former athlete, i can tell you they highly resent being treated as "also rans " by the leagues they play in. Bad thing is,IMO, though, even if they do get people watching this time, either of the teams from the west can sweep any team from the east. Hope that doesn't happen but it could.
  7. Crosby for boarding 10 seconds in, Fleury yanked in 2nd, oh well, they are still in it though
  8. They will be on the PP the whol series. NHL doesn't want to risk both mega-media darlings out in early rounds.
  9. Yea 6,7,8 seeds: MAAAAAAANNNNN!!!! real powerhouses those guys. Thanks for helping make my point. Anything CAN happen. Said when we played our best hockey, we competed with anybody. Everybody wants to sign new players. How about the outdated idea(obviously) of getting the ones you have to play to their potential. Ever seen Tom Izzo or Jim Valvano or Bill Parcells do anything like that?
  10. Not that the number is so important, because he's had a career year any way you slice it. Whats curious is to look at the overall leader board, which finds JJ in 19th place, ans see all the people who are talked about as superstars, That he has bested. Thats the best bargain at 1.7 for one more year in hockey, bar none.
  11. fUNNY how with no one in particular mentioned, you respond always to this discussion. That says a lot. I was not speaking about you REM. I have come to understand your position and respect it. there are plenty others who don't understand as you do and simply have emotional responses over and over and over. They need to get over it. You have qualified your stance quite well and it does make sense, lots. It's not that anyone has asked the players to tank, its just the continual wishful begging, like it was ever a possible scenario in the world of professional hockey. But I guess thats the world in the public domain. No disrespect intended at all to you. I have come to appreciate your articulate comments about the entire season. I for one have loved watching this team, however slowly, come together, and think the whole affair bodes well for the future. Just tired of all the whining over 2 or 3 places in the draft order.
  12. Continually amazed that people expect professional coaches and players to purposely not try and do their job. THE OBJECT OF COMPETITION ON THE PRO LEVEL IS TO DO YOUR BEST AND WIN WHEN YOU CAN. tHAT DOES NOT MEAN SOME GAMES ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN OTHERS. GAME 1, GAME 16, GAME 82. ALL YOU WHO HAVE WANTED THIS TEAM TO LOSE FOR A HIGHER DRAFT PICK UNDERSTAND NOTHING ABOUT THE MENTALITY OF PROFESSIONAL ATHLETES AND WHAT GOT THEM TO THAT LEVEL. PRIDE AND PROFESSIONALISM FAR OUTWEIGH THE CHARACTERISTICS YOU EXHIBIT WHEN YOU WISH FOR SUCH A THING FROM PROFESSIONALS. ESPECIALLY THESE PROUD PROFESSIONALS. WHY HAS TORONTO BEEN ON A WINNING TURN LATELY? BECAUSE THEY CAN OR AT LEAST HAVE BEEN ABLE TO. SAME WITH OUR TEAM, WINNING BECAUSE THEY CAN. IT'S WHAT PROFESSIONALS DO. I WOULD LOVE FOR SOME OF THE STATEMENTS MADE HERE TO BE MADE IN THE LOCKER ROOM. YOU WOULD BE DRUMMED OUT ON YOUR HEAD AND NOT WELCOMED BACK. PRIDE AND PROFESSIONALISM ALSO WOULD DEEM SUCH AN ATTITUDE AS LOSE FOR DRAFT PICK AS A LOSER PSYCHE AND ANY PLAYER WITH THAT FEELING WOULD BE OSTRACIZED ON ANY PROFESSIONAL TEAM IN EXISTENCE. HOCKEY PLAYERS WOULD LAUGH YOU OFF THE PLANET IF THEY COULD. THE MENTAL AND PHYSICAL TOUGHNESS IT TAKES TO PLAY THIS GAME LEAVES NO ROOM FOR A LOSER MENTALITY. AND ALL THIS FOR A TEAM THAT AS OF YET IS NOT EVEN MATHEMATICALLY ELIMINATED. ME THINKS YOU PROTEST TOO MUCH. i ONCE ENJOYED SOME OF THE CONVERSATION ON THESE BOARDS BUT I NOW PREFER TO DISCUSS ISSUES WITH PERSONS WHO HAVE A GRASP OF THE SUBJECT MATTER AND THERE ARE TOO MANY HERE WHO HAVE NONE. tHANKS TSA, KRAD AND OTHERS WHO WORK HARD HERE BUT I FIND THIS NO LONGER INTERESTINGOR PRODUCTIVE. HAPPY OFF SEASON CANIACS AND CANES.
  13. Wish he had taken the FO with 11 seconds left last nite.
  14. Godspeed to full recovery. For time being, take a well deserved break, hang out in the homeland with some buddies and come out ready to scare the hell out of washington and pittsburgh again. find out what is up with that national team leaving our man JJ off the Bronze capturing Mighty Finns.
  15. As I stated in another thread, the youth movement has been taking place continually since november. Its funny to me how so many in the "tank the season" crowd, crowed for weeks about how so many moves should be made, and this started in December, while the moves were being made right before our eyes, but they were too busy fussing about throwing the season to notice it WAS taking place, and being done the right way too. All these youngsters have been brought along slowly without feeling any pressure to perform, and they have responded for the most part, like professionals. JR knows a little about player development on the NHL level also and the performance of the kids slowly getting better each call-up is indicative. As for winning games that many of you wish we had not, the development of our youth movement, in many instances, has not been responsible, but has allowed that to happen. So thats what some of us were talking about when we said to those who wanted the team to somehow throw the season away, that you have not been able to "have your cake and eat it too." You could not wish for a youth movement to come to this level and have the kind of success that would allow them to stick, and wish for the team not to be successful. Those two things just do not go together, never will. The winning environment the kids have helped to establish and have found at this level will carry this team farther in the long run than any one draft pick will all by himself.MJ needed help; Bill Russell needed help; Magic Johnson needed help;Crosby,Ovechkin need help. Stamkos was a great pick but in a losing locker room and environment , guess what, he needs help. Give me the way this season has played out, with a team of great character and spine, pulling it together too late for a serious playoff run; but continuing to stand for something and personify a winning attitude even when things were bleak. I'll take that over first draft any season, every season.
