  1. New NHL Rules for 2009-2010 - move to higher scoring games.
  2. I'm from Western New York and I live in Orlando and I have found that is not the case. Housing is more expensive and whatever you save on heat you more than spend on air conditioning for eight solid months. Sure, taxes are lower, and you see the results of that. Little in the way of public services and an abysmal school system. Florida has sunshine and low taxes, but it is not a place I would recommend that someone with a family move to.
  3. Way to take a dump on an icon of hockey. I think the 'Canes third jersey looks good and since black is one of your official team colors it is appropriate, but as a general rule I don't like the way so many teams are going to black. I know it is a popular color for fans to wear, but it is getting to the point that every game is going to be the black team versus the white team.
  4. I haven't been to the 'Canes board in a long time (the rivalry between the Sabres and 'Canes that showed so much promise a few years ago never really materialized), so I don't know what the political discussion has been like for you guys. On the Sabres board it was pretty lively. We just closed our election thread at 127 pages, over 2,500 replies, and more than 111,000 views. We are a pretty opinionated bunch.
  5. Like the man said, money can't buy you love, but it can sure rent the hell out of it. I think the Rangers are just slow starters and with all their new players they haven't come together yet. I predict they will be strong the second half of the season.
  6. Look at that list what does every team, but one, have in common? 'Canes, Pens, Oilers, Devils, Red Wings, Ducks Lightning? Hmmmm? All but the Sabres have won a Stanley Cup. It is a little easier to be a loyal fan when you can bask in the glow of a championship, no matter how long ago the team's glory years were. However, when you keep coming back, disappointing season after disappointing season...that is loyalty.
  7. Sorry, folks. It doesn't look like Buffalo is going to do its part to keep the rivalry alive. This team is an embarrassment.
  8. In my opinion, as a Sabres fan, I think the hate was mostly one way. Most Sabres fans reserve their real ire for the Maple Leafs.
  9. The argument we got (Sabres fans) when the slug was unveiled was that it is an attempt to make it easier for casual fans to follow the action easier. The idea is that with a number on the front you can tell who has the puck. I don't buy it, but that is the reason.
  10. I don't know if message board activity is an indicator of anything, but as a member of the Sabres, Leafs, and 'Canes boards I can tell you that, in the off season at least, this board moves at a glacial pace in terms of # of posts compared to the other two.
  11. They will be better this year, but they will not win the Cup, the Conference, or the division. It will be a good year for Philly if they are contending for the 8th seed. Psychic are we? About as much as most making predictions, although perhaps more informed than some. Of course, this point of view completely ignores the seasons before last. You know, the seasons where the Flyers were top of the division and near the top of the league. You mean the season right after the lock out when the Sabres exposed the old school Flyers team in the playoffs for the house of cards that it was? They have gotten better. They certainly have done better in the off season than did the Sabres. But, they have not improved to the point where they will be one of the leaders in the East. Keep in mind the Flyers have to play eight games each against the Pens, Rangers, Devils, and Islanders, all teams that made the playoffs (plus they start the season with a three game road trip to Western Canada). The Pens are one of the favorites to win it all this year, the Rangers have improved greatly and still have King Henrik in goal, the Devils still are playing a trap in front of Martin Brodeur and were the #2 seed last year, so they are still dangerous, which leaves the Islanders. That is the team I think they can catch for the #8 spot. Because of their off-season moves I would evaluate the Flyers talent level about where NYI was last year.

  14. That "funny feeling" is advanced dementia setting in. What exactly did Boston do in the off season that makes you think they will go from a 35 win last place finish in the northeast to a first place spot that will require them to pick up at least 30-40 more game points? And the Flyers? They finished 2007 with their worst season ever. Yes, they added Danny Briere, but they are going to find that he is as much a product of the Sabres' system as anything else. Without Buffalo's system and the added incentive of "auditioning" for free agency status I predict he will put up much smaller number this year. Also, Martin Biron, while a terrific human being and all around funny guy, has never carried a team to the playoffs as a full time starter. The Flyers will find he is an excellent back-up, but he is no savior for the team. They will need 50-60 more game points (!) than last year to finish at the top of the East. Look a little to the west and you will find the team in Pennsylvania that is mostly likely to put up big numbers this year.
