  1. But what happens if they make it to 8 teams and suddenly a couple players from those teams start testing positive? Stop and wait while they quarantine the entire teams for another 2 weeks? Have the teams carry forward without the positive players? Or if it's a wave of positives spreading through one of the neutral locations? Boot the 8 teams in that location and let the other locations carry on? Ouch. Not picking at your post, gc, just thinking out loud. There's no way to plan for every possibility, but there are so many of them.
  2. If all of the coaches and players bring a couple with them, they can use the carpool lanes.
  3. The bitter Whaler and Nordique fans on Facebook are going to go ballistic over this one.
  4. There does have to be more criteria because otherwise you'd have to consider such 'party games' as quarters, Twister, and yes, darts and cornhole, to be sports. I'm not sure what that other criteria is just yet. Archery and skeet shooting, i'll say sport. Quarters and cornhole, get back to me on those. But there does have to at least be competition and athleticism. Which still makes even all of those more-acceptable for sports channels to be televising than my current 'whine of the week' i keep coming back to, poker. 😄
  5. It does get a little gray. Curling and stock car racing, yes. By sailing do you mean something competitive like sailboat races? If so, yes. Not Poker, though. Wheel of Fortune and The Price Is Right are more sport than Poker.
  6. Agreed on the poker. Hell, tiddlywinks is more of a sport than poker.
  7. Quinn would be great but yeah, not gonna happen. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go top 10.
  8. The Wolves play at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, right across the Interstate from O'Hare.
  9. Can't deny at all that Williams has been important to the team, but he isn't 'retired number' important, IMO. If you retire his number (whichever one you choose), do you retire CWard and EStaal as well? Faulk and Cole? Whitney and Wallin? Damned fine hockey player no doubt, and had he spent his entire career here then perhaps, but you can't retire every number and 4 full seasons and parts of 3 more with only 2 playoff runs between them isn't enough to hang his in the rafters. One guy's opinion, of course.
  10. I haven't been to a Hurricanes game in probably a decade but i've been making it to a handful of Chex games each year since they moved back to Bojangles. Of course i watch every Canes game on television as long as i'm home. This won't make a huge difference to anything there - i'll still watch the Canes on FSC and will still attend a handful of Chex games no matter who their parent is. It's definitely a strike against the whole 'Carolina's team' thing when the largest city in either Carolina is the top affiliate for someone else, but life goes on. There is a fair-sized contingent of Chex fans who weren't fans of the Canes to start with and are already jumping up on Facebook saying they're happy with the news (and of course i've already seen a couple FB comments saying this is proof Dundon's going to move the team 'back to Hartford' [LOL] and others that he's going to move the team to Charlotte [double LOL]). I do think both teams will lose many (but not all) of the 'traveling' fans who drive from Charlotte to Raleigh or Raleigh to Charlotte to see the other team play. The Checkers will suffer more from this, but it is what it is. Honestly wouldn't surprise me if Charlotte ends up back in the ECHL. Maybe not immediately, but before the decade's through.

  12. Clean =/= legal. Stevens usually kept things legal, but he was a very dirty player.
  13. I'm watching in Charlotte on Spectrum Cable.
  14. John and Tripp mentioned it in the game today. It was either his mother- or father-in-law. Well they didn't mention the leave of absence, but the death.
  15. https://www.nhl.com/hurricanes/news/petr-mrazek-returns-to-practice-on-long-island/c-315940252?fbclid=IwAR2ybTFv9NHdC8-OI4MRL4JtJpJjBWn5uQ-KLaCDzL8Oo87nhgK_TXD8C4U Doesn't mean anything yet but good news nonetheless.
  16. Trocheck was a move for the long term and not the sprint. The jury's still out on whether he's the right piece, but like Pamlico i was happy to see an attempt made rather than the Francis style of sitting on his hands. Gut instinct is that after a few more games, or after a training camp at the least, he gets it and is the 2C for the foreseeable future. At the very least i think he's a better fit there than Staal, and while i miss Wallmark, i'm happy with Aho-Trochek-Staal-Martinook down the middle for the time being (not 'bouncing off the walls' happy, but happy). Must admit i'm still scratching my head on the Vatanen move - if he had even another year on his contract then i'd be all in but the ship is sinking and dude's UFA in a month. I'm happy enough with Skjei and will be even happier if it means we can move Gardiner and/or Edmundson (or even just relegate them to the 3rd pairing) - a top 4 of Slavin/Pesce/Hamilton/Skjei has me smiling and profiling. I do wish the team could have brought in more goaltending, but i don't think there were a lot of options at a reasonable cost. That's what i'll tell myself at least. Plus i think with better defense, either Nedl or Forsberg would be fine as backups. Short answer, i think our training camp roster looks better now than before the trade deadline, and i think if the team makes it to the playoffs, it's a little better there as well. I just don't know if it was improved enough to get to them.
  17. So the gist of the situation is if you don't like a certain NHL rule, give it a season or two and they'll change it. No reason the refs suck - they have to learn a whole new set of rules every season.
  18. This looks good on paper, if Nino can wake up.
  19. That play was essentially the story of Khudobin's time with the Hurricanes - he returned and even came back for another season, but his post-injury play never matched his pre-injury play. And his stats ever since have looked better. No way to know of course, but i have the feeling had that freak injury never happened, he might still be the guy. There's risk-reward, yeah, but i'll pass on those moves from a goaltender as well.
  20. He keeps getting chances but continues to be hot garbage. Can we give him a chance in the pressbox instead?
  21. OK, everyone, on the count of 3 let's all hold our breath on that happening... 🤣
  22. 2 forwards gone, only 1 coming back. I haven't seen anything about him being recalled tho.
