Rats Upend Admirals

Recommended Posts

Well probaly the best game the Rats have played in a while. Tottaly dominated the game all the way around and for a full 60 minutes. Outshot Norfolk 38-16 and outscored them 7-0. Any guess on who got the shutout again. And the offense decided to show up for him tonight in a big big way.

Since I am not in Norfolk atm....WOOOHOOOOOOO!!! Even if I was in Norfolk I would still say that out loud. I only root against the Admirals when the Rats play them and then I get escorted out after the game. I don't seem to find the safe sections to sit in away from the drunk fans who hate the visiting team.

The game was not played in Norfolk Doppler Radar the game was played here in Albany. The River Rats do not play down in Norfolk for the first time untill January. They play 2 straight games in January in Norfolk and then 2 more in April.

Wow, sounds like an AWESOME effort for those Rats! Haha. although I hate it had to come at the hands of Karl Goehring for the last half of the game. He played for the UND Fighting Sioux and basically was the best goaltender that school ever had, which, trust me, is a huge accomplishment. Sucks to see him still in the AHL. But good job to the rats! A HUGE game for them. Good to see our D-men scoring down there.

Yeah the D just started to pick it up about 2 weeks ago. Casey Borer got it started about 2 weeks ago the D has just been on a tear with scoring goals. Like lastnight we got 3 goals by d-men Mark Flood Tim Conboy and J.D. Forrest. Mark Flood has been the one dman on a tear the past two weeks or so.

Here is the artical form our local newspaper from lastnigts game. And the main reason I posted it is so you guys would see the Leighton tied a franchise record lastnight with his 4th shutout of the season lastnight. He still has plenty of time to get 1 more shutout this season to break the record. We lead the whole American Hockey League in shutout as a team this season with 6. The next closet team to us in shutouts in Bridegport and as a team they have 3. This is why I love having the Canes as an affiliate. Atleast there player down here play. Like last season Keith Aucoin breaks the River Rats record for most point in a season with 99 points. Up till last season John Madden held the River Rats record with 98 points and that record held up for like 4 or 5 season if not longer. Now just 2 months into the season this season Michael Leighton has allready tied the River Rats record for most shutouts by one goalie in a season with 4. And has plenty of time to shatter the record if he can continue at this pace.

I hope Leighton breaks that record soon. ;) `

at least we can pretty much estimate it is going to happen. with the way he has been playing all season, if anything happens with Grahame as far as a trade is concerned, at elast we know we have a really sound goalie in the wings waiting for his turn up here.

Watch....it will be the week before the Norfolk trip and Leights will come up here....

That would suck, but yet would be so cool at the same time! I say, and I will probably get scorned, but bring Lightning up for the DC game tomorrow! Four shut outs sounds like Leighton is either that super good, or the team is playing in front of him! Either way, hopefully we get to see him play!

More like Leighton is that super good. With the exception of the past few games the team normally does not play that well infront of him. Most times he is the reason we win.

I'm just throwing this out there....

If Leighton did come up and play as good as it sounds like he plays, that would be quite the catalyst for Cam and would probably raise Cam's game up few notches. Win/win imo.

Oh I am sure that would for sure push Cam to play better if Leights plaed as good up there as he does down here. If Leights is still playing as good as he has been all season long you guys will see what I mean come January. And I do not see him not playing well then.

I think so too. It would challenged Cam to play better if the AHL goalie is showing him up.

We can't be the only ones thinking this either.

I'm sure not, and I dont think Cam feels too threatened by Grahame. Cam's a young competetive guy that has achieved so much so early in his career, I think a little healthy competition would do him some good.

I can't help but think that it scare the beejeezus out of our D corps... a large part of a shut-out is the way the D plays in front of a goalie... How are Borer, Carson and Babin doing?
