Recommended Posts

Dwight Helminen scored twice, including the game-winner early in the third period, and the River Rats held off a late Rochester rally to snap a three-game slide.

Michael Ryan also scored for Albany (11-15-3-2), which plays at Hershey on Sunday. Rochester (9-21-0-2), which had won four of five, got goals from Janis Sprukts and Karl Stewart 1:59 apart in the last 5:28 of regulation to make it close.

Justin Peters stopped 18 of 20 shots in goal for the Rats, while Chris Beckford-Tseu had 21 saves in his first start since Nov. 29 for Rochester.

Albany matched a season low with four shots on goal in the first period, but scored on successive shots -- their sixth and seventh of the game -- 74 seconds apart in the second period for a 2-0 lead. Helminen put back a power-play rebound 3:12 into the third for his ninth goal of the season.
