Sean Avery will be playing for the Wolfpack?

Recommended Posts

It pains me to say this, but Avery is a fairly decent player when he is playing and not performing. He is wicked fast on the wing and can score goals. If he keeps his antics off the ice, then fine. If not, please run him (HARD) off the ice.

Years back this type of scenario presented itself in Chicago with Rodman and the Bulls. For awhile, the players would help Rodman get out of jams (of his own doing) on the court. The following season, they players would just let him go and if he got T-d up and ejected, they allowed it.

It may be that this is what Avery will need. No one protecting his butt. He's on his own out there. Not sure if the Rangers will allow that, though.

I don't think this'll work out the way the Rangers expect it to. They touched on this during the NBC broadcast on Sunday, and it made sense.

There's no doubt that Avery is a talented hockey player. His stats and play on the ice easily backs that up. However, if he gets bored (which apparently happens quite easily) or agitated, he'll likely go off the deep-end.

The reason why he did so well in New York during his first stint there? 2 reasons:

1. He was playing really well in one of hockey's biggest markets. That gets you a lot of attention, which easily fed Avery's ego to the point where he didn't need any on/off ice antics.

2. He had Shanahan on his team. Avery may be off, but he has a lot of respect for the veterans of hockey. The NBC crew said that Shanahan babysat Avery during his time on the team. Shanahan's a Devil now. Won't work out so well.
