Jack Johnson...starting to slip off the radar

Recommended Posts

Totally agree

How about we revisit this thread after 18 years?

I don't think 18 years will be necessary. Ten will certainly suffice. I predict he will officially be a bust within five years, but there is always a GM somewhere that gets enamoured with the label "Third Overall pick" and will take a flyer on him. He is injury-prone and even when healthy is inconsistent, refusing to play within a system, prefering to play on his own while leaving his partner high and dry. If he can get it out of his head that he is something special and just play hockey, he might be able to turn it around. I personally don't think he has the maturity to get to that point.

BTW, another -2 last night brings his total to -19 for the year (errr, half the year).

You might be on to something, the reason he didn't want to play for us is he didn't want to play past the second week in April. Would explain why he signed with LA.

All i'm gonna say is two words: Anton Babchuk
fixed (Babchuk not Babchuck) SPELLING NAZI ALERT!!! :)

True and good point, but JJ had an enormous ego and an attitude problem to boot before he even played his first NHL game. Different story with Babs.

posted on TSN by Scott Cullen:

Though he's just 22, Jack Johnson is approaching a crossroads of his career already. It's understandable for a young defenceman to make some mistakes as he adjusts to the NHL, but Johnson's rolled up a minus-42 in 120 career games. If he's not going to show the kind of offensive flair he had at the University of Michigan, where he scored 71 points in 74 games, Johnson simply has to become more dependable.

Assuming we would have signed JJ to the typical 3 year deal which would have ended this year making him an RFA this summer with no guarantee that he sticks around - this is LA's current situation with him - I don't see how anyone can say now that we made a bad deal. You have to remember that when you draft a player, you are not getting that player for life but only for the exclusive rights to sign that player to an initial contract. If another team puts an offer sheet on JJ that LA cannot match, would people still say that LA got the better of the deal?

Good go to Russia. No team will want you if daddy makes all the decisions for you.

Rarely does having a heavily involved Dad come to a good end. The only current super athlete that would defy that would be Tiger and his Dad.

Sometimes having a family member involved in business affairs is not in your best interest. Kind of why doc's don't treat their own family. Tons of conflicts and emotions.

Sad. The guys on XM were talking about Johnson this morning/afternoon.

Remember Eric Lindross having his dad call the shots? Oye....

If Jack refuses to play for Tampa and goes to Russia to avoid it thats completely underminding the league. I mean it sets the idea if anyone doesn't like a trade they can just goto Russia. How does that allow any team to improve themselves with that fear looming? NHL needs to get off it's butt and do something about the KHL

How about Sid Crosby and his Dad, Mario Lemeuix?

That seems to be working out good. I wonder if he's allowed to mow the lawn yet?
