Patrick Kane Arrested

Recommended Posts

Looks like details are starting come out slowly. Got this link from the Buffalo board.

http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/08...-blown-out.html

Lawyers for both side have been quoted as saying this is "getting blown out of proportion".

Kane, 20, and his cousin, James Kane, 21, punched cab driver Jan Radecki and took back money they had given him after the driver told them he didn't have 20 cents in coins to give them change, according to the Buffalo police report.

The report said the fare was $13.80 and the two Kanes had paid the driver $15. Radecki told the Tribune Sunday, "They broke my glasses, they ripped my clothes ... all over 20 cents."

Radecki's lawyer, Andrew LoTempio, appeared on WGN-AM 720 this morning (full audio here) and seemed to downplay the incident.

"It's pretty much been blown out of proportion," LoTempio told WGN. "It's a dispute over the cab fee and unfortunately Mr. Radecki didn't recognize Mr. Kane and just thought they were a couple of college kids.

"Some of the cab drivers here have a policy of not unlocking the doors until they get paid because they get beat on their fees by the college kids and that just kind of blew up."

and also:

Reached by phone on Monday, Patrick Kane's attorney, Paul Cambria, a noted defense attorney in Buffalo, said the Blackhawks star was "upset the accusation has been made and he's anxiously awaiting to clear it up."

"There's no doubt in my mind that the evidence will show (Patrick Kane) committed no crime," Cambria said.

I gotta admit it wouldnt surprise me either way if we found out Kane actually KO'd the driver.

But I really really really doubt it. That's really stupid to belt someone over 20 cents, I really doubt this is half of what its been made out to be. Plus if I was the blackhawks gm I would prolly fine my player over doing something that stupid if it was within my confines to do so. Why would you risk that?

A little more info today:

The laywers are starting to sound more like damage control specialists now but still nothing from Kane himself.

Whatever happens, it's not the kind of publicity the Blackhawks have been seeking the past two years with the 20-year-old Kane and 21-year-old captain Jonathan Toews as the public face for a young team looking for the franchise's first Stanley Cup since 1961. Kane garnered so much league-wide popularity that he will be featured on the cover of EA Sports' anticipated NHL 2010 video game, which is slated for release next month.

There have been some interesting things coming out about the cab driver lately, apparently he had no valid license at the time of the incident and had a DUI in 1999:

http://www.buffalonews.com/home/story/760115.html

And this part is interesting:

Kane's attorney said he's found information that will exonerate his client and disputed the cab driver's claims of injuries.

"I know he said that, but it's not my client who committed any crimes against him," Cambria said. "When all of the facts and circumstances come out concerning the incident, then the public will have a better idea of what exactly happened and whether or not there is any criminal activity there."

Asked to elaborate, Cambria said he was not implying James Kane committed a crime, but said was speaking only on behalf of his client. James Kane's attorney, Dan Barry Jr., did not return a call to comment.

"When all this is put into perspective," Cambria said, "it's going to appear vastly different than the first impression."

Hmmmmmmm.

The story lately is that the cabbie locked the doors and wouldn't let them leave until they payed their fare. He dropped them off near Canisius College, and according to the cabbie, sometimes the college kids he drops off just bolt without paying the fare, so it sounds like he was trying to make sure he got his money. It seems as though both sides overreacted and it escalated into something more than it should have. I would just like to finally hear what Pat has to say himself.

Some of you people have to ease up on the people From Buffalo,, just because of a few jerks that came to a Canes game doesn't deserve trashing the complete city! Your probably the same people that think M. Vick deserves another chance, i don't hear you talking about his hometown,or D.Stallworths home town just to name a few. We all know that "Cabbies" are 100 % upstanding "American Citizens " . Maybe the "Cabbie" has an alterior motive (MONEY) to fast track himself out the the cabbie lane? Just another side of the coin ,if maybe you were to flip it!!! ;)

Ease up on us having a little fun at the expense of Buffalo. Those "few jerks that came to a Canes game" is why the RBC has to put on extra security whenever the Sabres come to town.

You should see the field day they're having with it in the Sabre's board.

Vick does deserve another chance and I'm not wasting my time talking smack about Buffalo fans.

2 years in prison, bankrupt and might not find an NFL job anyway he's not only paid for what he did but he's apparently paid MORE then what the cost of a human life is in terms of Stallworth. Stallworth deserves a kick to the hockey pucks by every person in the family of the person he killed and 5-10 years.

Judging by the above Kane may very well be heading to the electric chair with how much our legal system makes sense.

More evidence that alcohol makes even millionaires stupid. Glad it doesn't discriminate.

Here's what I don't get. Didn't the guys get into the cab from a downtown bar/establishment? If Kaner was drunk, obviously drinking underage, why isn't the establishment getting razed? Just wondering.

I don't recall any of the stories mentioning that Pat Kane was drunk and he wasn't cited for underage drinking.
