TOTALLY off topic here, but...

I read that the sentence has to be carried out within 30 days. But of course his attorneys are appealing the ruling which could take 3-4 weeks to complete the paperwork. I wonder how long this entire process will take? I know what I would like to see happen, but who knows what will really happen in these next couple of months.

He would be better off rotting in jail honestly, putting him to death just makes him a Martyr for those who support him and are part in the insurgancy.

I don't think putting him to death would make him a martyr - I think they have to do something like the hijackers did on 9-11 to get that "status". I don't know much about that religion, but I was under the impression that they have to die serving Aallah, a la suicide bomber, etc.

Either way, let Aallah deal w/ him when he passes. I'd love to be a fly on the wall when that meeting happens.

Well, I am in no way able to say what they feel about it, and no doubt the kurds are probably dancing in the streets over that sentencing, but his supporters would see it as the american court system - ala puppet iraqi court system doing a great "injustice". He has about 3 weeks to apeal it though, so should be interesting to see what happens.

The Appeal is automatic. THere is a 9 judge panel that decidewhether or not he gets an appeal, they have up to 30 days to decide. If they decline the retrial or whatever, then there is another 30 day window that the senence has to be carried out within. I think. ...

And I don't think the America Government has to "allow" anything. There are plenty of other people in the world that want him dead.

I thought we caught him but isn't the trial being held elsewhere therefore the USA has nothing to do about it. As far as it being a public death, we don't have to watch it. I still have very mixed emotions about seeing someone "put" to death but I do believe in capital punishment but that's just me.

Thank you for the link AO. It's very informative. I appreciate your views on capital punishment but hey, I'm from the old old school. I believe in an eye for an eye. I think that if someone kills another, premeditatedly, they should be put to death. Florida recently executed a man that killed several college students in Jax, Fl. He didn't just kill the students, he decapitated some and then strategically placed their bodies in poses that would create the worst kind of effect on the ones that found the victims. He was a real sicko and no amount of rehabilitation would help him. Ted Bundy was incurable as well...so was John Wayne Gacy. Sometimes I do have mixed emotions about this and think that maybe, let them live their lives out but make them look at the photos daily of their victims but would it bother them? Probably not. I don't want anyone to dislike me for my thoughts on this but just thought I'd let anyone know why I feel as I do. Will I watch Saddaam get executed? I don't know. I've seen real hangings by watching too many movies about the Holocaust that included real video. I saw what the Nazi's did to Jews, Gypsy's, homosexuals, etc. It tore me up inside so no, I don't think I'll watch him but I'll bet my husband will.

I have mixed feelings on the death penalty. However just what do you do to punish people who do such massive and horrible things such as the people Bodyslam mentioned above? There is no rehabilitating. That isn't fair to us normal relatively law abiding citizens.

I don't really beleive in life sentences either. It makes no sense.

"If everyone took and eye for an eye the whole world would be blind."

--Ghandi

Statistics show capital punishment doesn't deter criminals one ioda. Has violent crime been reduced for all our prisons and death sentences? Besides, so many people have been found innocent after being put to death. One of the original pledges of the justice system was never to punish the innocent even if it meant letting a few guilty slip away. Obviously saddam is guilty but putting someone to death officially is just barbaric. We may be advancing technologically but socially we've got a lot of work to do.

The point is we should be setting an example. I know he killed people. Refer to quote.

Who cares about detering criminals and bad people? Its not called capital deterince! ITs called PUNISHMENT. Meaning you shouldn't have been so damn stupid and horrible.

Criminals are gonna do whatever they want it seems. Deterince should come through other means such as education. People know before they do things that if they get caught they will pay (most of the time).

Also in the days of DNA testing how man people will be set free years from now as innocent?

I can only speak for myself in saying I would not be blind as I abide by the law and don't take anything that isn't mine, I don't kill, I don't steal, I pay my taxes, etc.

I'm saying that if there is isn't a shadow of any doubt, that the person admits to what he/she did then capital punishment should apply.

I read the entire story of the Florida man, Danny Harold Rolling, that was executed Wednesday, October 25th. It will break your heart. I'm a parent. I can only wonder what the victim's parents are going through.

Three square meals a day, air conditioning, weight rooms, internet capability, etc., are way too good for him. Not exactly how I want my taxes to be spent. I'd rather my money go to feed hungry kids in America, take care of our elderly in rest homes that have no family and take care of those who can't speak for themselves **meow, ruff ruff**(yeah, I'm an animal lover.)

Atleast the government is doing somthing with all those 100's of billions they have spent on the millitary, all those free rides to college they've given away, etc. I'd rather that than spending it on weekly trips to Tiajuana, raising their salaries, interenet porn, expensive dinners walls around mexico and other stupid stuff our government wastes money on

Plus they have killed so many more than just one person. You must watch CNN or MSNBC or some other evil news networkd

The best part is "they" aren't even going to kill Saddam, Iraq is killing Saddam.

Did you happen to see my link on the last page? There was a point to be had in it.

650k Iraqi's dead since the war started. that's 2.5 percent of the population. So you're right, we did kill more than one guy.

Corruption is still happening. Just because we're pissing away billions on contracts to haliburton doesn't mean they aren't wasting what's left of our taxes on other useless junk.
