jfive Report post Posted January 20, 2010 I've been wondering the same thing as ESPN, when is JR going to find a suitable dance partner for this trade ho-down we've been expecting? We should start a pool for this with the winner choosing the date give or take a day. Bonus points for choosing the players traded or the teams involved. Portisfreak Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Maybe we should shop Whitney and some other guys in a package for the oilers 1st round pick, so we could get both Seguin and Hall for sure
canes-in-7 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 Most draft pics,#1 or #10 or #20 usually take years to get to the NHL level. That is why IMO we really should't be worring about getting the top draft pic. We have so many areas that need to be looked at,that putting our efforts or (lack there of) into a unproven very young player is just crazy. If we were close to being a compettative team and we were missing that 1 link, then yes but with all the areas that need work it will be years before a #1 pick would be able to make any imapct at all. Disagree Strongly, from stamkos to tavares, from patrick kane, to evengi malkin and ovechkin, to crosby to fluery, staal and horton to rick nash and kovalpuke many ,many top picks impact immediately AND esp in years 2-10 contrubute greatly and in many cases do turn a team quickly. canes-in-7 Report post Posted January 20, 2010 new beginning for the Edmonton Oilers starts with the Draft Lottery on either Apr. 12 or 13 (TBD). A top-three pick will allow Edmonton to draft a potential star in June, be it a forward, either Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin, or defenceman Cam Fowler, who is ranked third among North American skaters by the NHL's Central Scouting Bureau. All three have the potential to be cornerstone players. The Oilers had a superstar, namely Chris Pronger, who helped them to Game 7 of the 2006 Stanley Cup final before Pronger decided Edmonton wasn't for him. Without a superstar, it's almost impossible to win and the only way to acquire one without mortgaging the future is through the draft. There are no guarantees Hall, Seguin or Fowler will develop into the franchise player the Oilers so desperately need, but it's the right place to start. http://www.tsn.ca/blogs/darren_dreger/?id=306822
Keith The Great Report post Posted January 20, 2010 I don't think the Oilers are in any position to be taking players. They have little cap space, but do expect a firesale sometime between now and the trade deadline. At least that's what I'm hoping for.

That would be a great deal. Then the oil could get both. How sweet would that be. GO CANES GO!!! Win that is!!!!

We in edmonton are 'willing' it to be the truth so... Go Canes. Besides you have Eric Staal who's almost a superstar. So it would be fair if you gave us that 1st pick of yours too!! remkin Report post Posted January 22, 2010 Down to one point. I fear that the Staal captaincy will be enough for us to climb out of the cellar. It is going to be tough to beat Edmonton in this one. We're going to need to start the fire sale soon to stay in it. Also, start the back up goalie a few times for crying out loud. I'm looking at Toronto now. At least their first round pick was traded. Keith The Great Report post Posted January 22, 2010 Another injury on the blueline for the Oilers. Yippie. A couple of streaks go head to head in Northern Alberta: The Oilers 9 game overall losing streak vs. the Dallas Stars 10 game road losing streak. Which one will come to an end? (Hint: It won't be the Oilers)
MarkyMarkNC Report post Posted January 22, 2010 Wow, not only are the Oilers closing in on us for last place, but several Oilers players - Horcuff, O'Sullivan, and Nilsson - are all closing in on Rod Brindamour's league bottom plus/minus rating. I am about to give up hope for the number 1 draft pick. These guys are just pure professionals at tanking.
Keith The Great Report post Posted January 22, 2010 Well we've never had a top 5 pick in our history so I don't know about "pros" at tanking.
