Carolina signs Tomas Kaberle

Recommended Posts

Sounds to me like a d-man will be moved as part of a trade for a Cole replacement? Makes no sense for Rutherford to say we are done and now he pull this. Guessing McBain and a pick for a Top 6 forward will be coming later on.

I don't understand this one at all. Kaberle is now going to make twice as much as Corvo and he isn't a whole helluva lot better than Corvo. We needed a 1st line winger or a 2nd line center. This one blows my mind.

I understand wanting to change up the D.. but Corvo going out instead of Pits?.. Kaberle and Pits have a lot of defensive brain cramps..

And what about the forwards? Whats going on here?

And just a 4th round pick?

Sign him and trade him, please! I am a Bruins fan as well as a Canes fan,and Kaberle was not good in Boston. It makes no sense to give this much cash to Kaberle and not sign Cole. I sure hope JR has something good in the works.

"Tomas is one of the top puck-moving defensemen in the NHL and power-play specialist,” said Rutherford. “He has had a good career and is now a Stanley Cup champion. We welcome him to Carolina and look forward to his contributions to the Hurricanes.”

Well the powerplay can't get much worse, so hopefully he can help make it better if he is indeed a "specialist".

3 years, 13 million.. isn't that the exact same money they gave to Pitkanen? I know guys have been signed only to be immediately traded, but I'm sure Joni is still here since he just re-signed.

At least give him #5 so people don't have to buy new Jerseys.

Well now it is official. Our ofense and defense is worse than lsst year. Come on lottery pick!

Well, he's a Kaberle, his brother played here, that's enough for JR I guess. Meantime he craps on a guy who took a big discount to come back here last summer by sending him to Boston for a measly 4th rounder. Maybe this'll make sense at some point, it just seems bizarre right now.

Well we can't really say that until we actually see the product on the ice now can we?

JR is on 99.9 right now and says that they are pretty much done with the forwards at the moment unless something good comes along because they do have the assets.

I hope our team model is boxing day. If the o plays d and the d plays o we might win. Tomas's numer one, two and three knock is his defensive mind cramps. We cant afford two of the same player on this team.

Everything that absolutely drove me crazy with Pitkanen's play is mirrored in Kaberle..

AND Corvo was our Ovechkin shutdown guy.. Corvo's quickness allows him to shutdown guys like that..

I just don't know about these moves..

I for one am fairly happy. Tomas Kaberle has been a very good player over the years. I don't think we should already judge him based on half a season in Boston. He typically gets 45 points a year

I mean, Kaberle is good at what he does (though, he didn't show up much in the playoffs).

But the matter of the fact is he isn't all that great defensively - Ward saw too many pucks last year.. I don't know if this move helps that out..

If the Canes were not on, I was watching the Bruins, and he was terrible. Remember how frank was here towards the end? Well, get used to that for over 4 mil. for the next three years. I can't wait to watch Joni and Kaberle pass the puck back and forth for the power play.

So let me get this straight, we have 2 puck moving defense man who play virtually the same style and they are getting paid 8.75 mil a year? I think I would be OK with Kaberle over Pitkanen (Joni Land), but both? Why couldn't we have used some of this for a TOP 9 Forward?

Our TOP 6 D-men pairings are now:

Gleason-Kaberle

Allen- Pitkanen

Harrison-McBain/Joslin

Good signing guys....dude had 43 assists last year and 25 on the PP. How in the world is that the same as Corvo's stats? We are going to be looking more to Joslin, Allen, Harrison and Gleason to step up their games and thankfully, we have a coach in place to help get that done.

The sky ain't falling...I would love to see what the boards were saying back when we signed Stillman, Whitney and Cullen before the '06 season. We are going to be much better than many of you think.

JR on 99.9 right now and saying we are pretty much done, so forget about Hemsky

Skinner Staal Poni

Jussi Ruutu Dalpe

Stewart Sutter LaRose

Tlusty Brent Dwyer

Gleason Pitkanen

Allen Kaberle

Joslin/Harrison McBain

We are going to be big, we are going to skate and we are going to win much more than what the naysayers are spewing...

hmmmm... I seem to remember many similar comments about "Oh no Joe" and "Uh oh Joe" when we traded for Corvo. I liked Joe, a lot, and am sorry to see him leave. But let's remember that Kaberle was the big prize at trade deadline. Just because he didn't knock the lights out in Boston during his 4 months there doesn't mean he in not a very good PP specialist and defenseman.

And one thing is for certain ... JR is making some moves. We can't predict for at least 4 or 5 months if they are the "right" ones or not. But you certainly can't say he's been idle.

After having some time to let this sink in a looking over some stats I think I give this the jfive approval now. It can only help. Corvo had to go because of his request and the team doesn't need people around that don't want to be there. Wonder if Cole leaving had anything to do with Corvo not wanting to be here?
