Hurricanes Announce 2011 Training Camp Schedule

Team to hold first official on-ice practice on Sept. 17

RALEIGH, NC—Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced the schedule for the team’s 2011 training camp, which will be based in Raleigh.

The Hurricanes will open training camp with player physicals on Sept. 16, and then hit the ice for their first official practices at the RBC Center on Saturday, Sept. 17, beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Hurricanes travel to Buffalo for their first exhibition game two days later, taking on the Sabres at 7 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 19.

On Sunday, Sept. 18, the team will host its annual Caniac Carnival at the RBC Center, the season kick-off event which includes rides, interactive games, live music and an autograph session with select Hurricanes players. The team will also hold a Red-White scrimmage at noon, giving fans their first glimpse of game action at the RBC Center this season. The 12th Annual Caniac Carnival begins at 9 a.m. and concludes at 3 p.m., and is free to all fans.

The Hurricanes’ training camp concludes with a practice at the RBC Center on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The team opens its 2011-12 regular season against the Eastern Conference finalist Tampa Bay Lightning on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7 p.m. at the RBC Center.
