Yes, I am ok

Recommended Posts

I know this is the CH.com MB, but I felt like it needed to be shared on here.

I am ok. As far as I know right now, most of everything I know is OK. I do know (hung out with once) a girl who was shot in the head and chest. Don't know how she is, but I'm just assuming the worst.

With that being said, if you know anyone at Virginia Tech, hold off a couple hours and try to get into contact with them. Phone lines are jammed and the campus is pretty down and depressed at this point. But with time, things will clear up and you should be OK to do so then

What we do know: 22 students and faculty are dead. More are injured. 2 were shot in West Ambler Johnson and Norris Hall is where the main shooting took place. Classes are canceled for today and tomorrow and we are currently in lockdown.

I will be around to answer any questions you might have

that really does suck.... So did the guy who did all of this go to school there?

Don't know

I've heard he's a student, I've also heard he's a Radford student who had an argument with his VT g'f last night

That really does suck... Well I hope you and everyone you know are ok... 22 is 2 to many but I guess it could have been a lot worse

When I was at the bank this morning, they have a big screen TV that runs Fox news so those of us in there can watch... I was astonished to see this.... Twenty-two victims! It is incomprehensible! possibly over a fight with a GF???? Oh, hormones can be terrible chemicals... My heart goes out to you all, and to the family and friends left asking the unanswerable questions. The school will be in my prayers. Do please take care of yourself!

Checked my email at 10 and saw that campus was closed

I was leaving to go to the area where everything occurred

I though this would be appropriate:

Last day of the rest of my life

I wish I would have known

Cause I didn't kiss my mama good-bye

I didnt tell her how that I loved her

How much I care

Or thank my pops for all the talks and all the wisdom he shared

Unaware I just did what I always do

Everyday the same routine before I skate off to school

But who knew this day wasnt like the rest

Instead of taking the test I took two to the chest

Call me blind but I didnt see it coming

Everybody was running but i couldnt hear nothing

Except Gunblast

It happened so fast

I didn't really know this kid though i sit by him in class

Maybe this kid was reaching out for love

Or maybe for a moment he forgot who he was

Or maybe this kid just wanted to be hugged

Whatever it was I know its because

We are we are, the youth of the nation

We are we are, youth of the nation

We are we are, the youth of the nation

We are we are, youth of the nation

Little Susie she was only twelve

She was given the world with every chance to excell

Hang with the boys and hear the stories they tell

She might act kind of proud with no respect for herself

She finds love in all the wrong places

The same situations just different faces

Changed up her pace since her daddy left her

Too bad he never told she deserved much better

Johnny boy always played the fool

He broke all the rules so you would think he was cool

He was never really one of the guys no matter how hard he tried

Often thought of suicide

Its kind of hard when you aint got no friends

He put his life to an end they might remember him then

You cross the line and theres no turning back

Told the world how he felt with the sound of a gat

We are we are, the youth of the nation

We are we are, youth of the nation

We are we are, the youth of the nation

We are we are, youth of the nation

Whos to blame for the life that tradgedies claim

No matter what you say it dont take away the pain that I feel inside

Im tired of all the lies

Don't nobody know why

Its the blind leading the blind

Guess thats the way the story goes

Will it never makes sense

Somebodys gotta know

Theres gotta be more to life then this

Theres gotta be more to everything I thought exists

We are we are, the youth of the nation

We are we are, youth of the nation

We are we are (we are we are), the youth of the nation

We are we are (we are we are), youth of the nation

We are we are, (we are we are) the youth of the nation

We are we are, (we are we are) youth of the nation

We are we are, (we are we are) the youth of the nation

We are we are, (we are we are)youth of the nation (youth of the nation)

We are, youth of the nation (x3)

We are

According to MSNBC, death toll is now 31. Unbelievable. This was nothing short of a massacre. We hear these counts from Iraq, Afghanistan and car bombings in Israel. Blacksburg, Virginia????? Home of the Hokies (castrated turkeys) ???? Does not BEGIN to compute.

I hope that everyone involved takes advantages of all the offers of on-site counseling immediately if they feel the need. In any trauma, the more quickly one talks about what happened and is happening, and gets all the feelings out front, not pushed back or aside (as in, well, I am ok, it didn't happen to me therefore I am basically unaffected - which is totally false), the more quickly they get through the effects of the event. Wow. At the end of the school year, when emotions are high anyway, now you will have the entire campus on emotional red alert. Spontaneous crying or anger. High levels of distractibility and difficulty focusing. Cognitive functioning affected to varying degrees (think about trying to study for a test when all this is inescapably near or at the top of your mind's list). It will draw people closer, but before they really get a chance to get a handle on it all, the school year will be over and everyone will depart for the summer which actually will disrupt the entire healing process... derail it and delay it. So unfortunate. I hope that the folks who get counseling keep up with it as long as they feel the need to talk about what happened or it is disrupting their ability to sleep, or their ability to function during the day. And TALK TALK TALK. It's the mind's way (and dreams) of working through its problems and coming to terms with what happens to it. And if some people are not comfortable talking, then journal. Write, and empty the mind.

Well, this was more for our Caniac who is on the scene than the rest of us, but even if you've ever lost a loved one, the same issues apply. I'm a trauma specialist and so it's events just like this that was part of my daily routine - if trauma can ever be called routine - but there is a universality to it, and the straightest way through its very dark tunnel is to not ignore that which haunts the victim - And to recognize that events like this that one experiences become a chunk of cement in a corner of the mind.

I can truly say that with all the traumas I have had to deal, apart from helping the victims, the faster and more thorough I am about my own debriefing and 'decompression', the less of an effect the horror has on me which keeps me free to do my work with those caught in its web. Remember 9/11 - as a nation, we talked endlessly and viewed countless videos and read stories. We relived the horror over and over for years - because we needed to do so. When we no longer need to hear, look, remember...we've come out of the tunnel. The journey remains a part of us, because we're OUT. In the immortal words of the little grab machine creatures in the movie Toy Story.... "Into the light! Into the light!"

(and in the spirit of a light moment.... I just want to point out that no Tanabe's were hurt in the making of this post!)

I'm really glad to hear that you're okay. My prayers are going out to everyone that was affected by this tragedy.

My brother lives in Radford and has been working with a temp agency in the area. Just the other week he was working at VT in the very same building where the second shooting happened. Today he was working in Blacksburg, but not at VT, thank God. Please keep everyone there in your prayers, because they really need it right now.

Thanks, everyone

Yes, today has sucked miserably. I am very disheartened to hear about the reaction in the NYI/Buffalo game tonight to the moment of silence. Very disgraceful

As of now, nobody I personally know was involved, but seeing as how no list of names has been released, I don't know for sure. I do know many people who have friends and family in hospitals with gunshot wounds, though. Also, I'm very fortunate that this happened at 9:50am and not 2:00pm or it would have been me in those classrooms in Norris Hall rather than the ones who were killed today.

Either way, today was extremely sad and the Virginia Tech campus will be in mourning for quite some time

Glad to hear that you are ok Model. I can't even begin to imagine what it must be like there with all of this happening. The Convocation is on right now and this is just heartbreaking. The world has become a scary place.

Thoughts and prayers go out to you and all the students, staff and people of that community.
