Hello from Jacksonville

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, I'm a long time lurker who's finally getting around to introducing myself. I've been a Canes fan since I found out we were getting a team here in NC. I used to follow the Red Wings, and still watch them from time to time, but I love my Canes! I can remember being a kid and being so excited there was actually going to be a NHL team here and couldn't wait to go to my first game. I've taken my son to a few games and he's a die hard Canes fan now. He's been skating and playing hockey for a year and a half and loves it, and of course wants to be in the NHL someday :) We're going to the game on Jan. 3rd against the Islanders, and he's doing the little Mighty Mite thing they have during intermissions. Has anyone had their child participate in this? He's really excited. Also, I was wondering if anyone knew of any good summer hockey camps in Raleigh? He only plays on the house league and just turned 7, so I'm not sure which one would be best for a beginner.

if anyone is bored and wants to see him. :) He's the smallest and youngest out there, but he doesn't care....he just loves to play :tripping:

Welcome :)

They'll give you plenty of instructions but its real easy (if they still do it the way they did when Paul Strand ran it). They'll have you come early and let you in through the players entrance where they'll have all the jersey's hanging for the kids in a make shift locker room. Once they get all the waivers signed, they'll send you up to the seats and tell you exactly when to come back down stairs and get ready. Once you get your son dressed, see if you can get out to section 118 so you can get pictures or video.

If your son gets picked for the shootout in the 2nd intermission, he'll stay with Shane (or whoever is running it) and watch from down at the ice until its time to get ready again. Since he's so young I think they'll want 1 parent to stay with him to help him get out his gear and be able to take his hockey bag out to the car when he's done. After that, you head back to your seat and enjoy the rest of the game.

Make sure to bring your camera, you'll get lots of great pictures of your son in the locker room and on the ice :)

As for the camps, check out this link. The Cane's camps as well as others will get posted in the news feed when they're announced. There's a section under program info just for camps and clinics.
