The Charlotte Checkers issued today the following statement regarding the 2012 Calder Cup Playoff details and home-game scenarios, should they qualify:

“Should the Checkers earn home-ice advantage in the first round of the Calder Cup Playoffs, Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) of the best-of-five series will be played at Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte. Should the Checkers not earn home-ice advantage, due to scheduling conflicts, Games 1 and 2 will be played at PNC Arena in Raleigh. The Checkers will provide transportation to playoff ticket plan holders, who will also receive seating priority. Additionally, discounted transportation and hotel packages will be offered.”

More information will be released as it becomes available. For updates and information, please visit www.gocheckers.com or call 704-342-4423.

I looks like it is a lock that if they make the playoffs they will NOT have home ice, so there will be games in Raleigh (again, if they make the playoffs). It is a great playoff race, with the 5th place team with 83 points, and the Checkers in 11th with 81 points and a game in hand on a few of the teams above them.

Feel kind of bad for the loyal Checkers fans to have to come all the way to Raleigh but at least the Checkers are trying to do what they can for them. Truth be told, their loss would be our gain so I really hope they make it :)

Well, if they make it, at least we can say we got to see some playoff hockey at the PNC Arena, maybe rub some good luck mojo on the ice for next season and help out the checkers with a big crowd.
