Grabovski is waaaaaaaaaaaaay too much of a risk for what we need right now.

Well, if the numbers get too crazy then forget it.  But at the right number and term, he would fill the hole at centre on the 3rd line allowing Lindholm to develop at his own pace.

I've watched him for the past 4 years here in Toronto and he's a fast, skilled sniper who has a very effective fore-check.

3 years $9 M would be a reasonable risk, in my mind.

Well, I still think Skin-J-Ruu can be a very solid line.  Just give them some time to develop some chemistry.  They barely played as a line last year.

And yes, I realize that is one of your "excuses" listed but I don't care.

Someone on XM was saying that guys often underperform the first year of a big raise new contract. I guess you've got it on your list, but it could be used for Skinner and J.

I get the temptation to trade Skinner, but it ain't happening.

I think red makes Jordan look fat.  That has to be part of any excuse.  I mean, come on, how do you look fat and expect to perform.

Jordan looks FAT in red should be on the list. Please add Greg.

If Grabo can be had for no more than 3 years for no more than 3 million I'd take that. I'd rather sign Ference to that contract though.

I would also add that any rational discussion involving Jordan Staal's performance must include a mention of the weather. This is a kid from Canada where it is bitter cold all the time. He then moves to Pittsburgh where it is still pretty darned cold. Then moves to Raleigh where there is no proper winter. Eric had that year in the AHL to adjust.

He has forced himself into (unfortunately).  With Faulk and Tlusty contract ending next season cap space has to come from some where.  Faulk's will come from Pits contract leaving. Don't really have a place where Tlusty's to come from, unless the cap rises more than 4 mil next season (even if we could afford a salary that high).

Well I think the partner will be Toronto.  They seem to be the only one moving a top D man.

I think something like

Phaneuf, Reilly, and the rights to Colborne.

for

Skinner and Pits

Phaneuf gives us our top D man (only signed for one more year), Reilly is a top D prospect this is a great addition for the long term, and Colborne is a C spec with some experience that needs to be signed (big guy at 6'5).  We lose a lot in terms of offense but gain a lot of injury free D time.  We would be hoping Colborne continues progress and can step in to be our 3rd line center.  We lose 4 mil in cap and should have enough money to sign guys like Stalberg and Ference/O'Byrne while maintaining enough cap space to keep Faulk and Tlusty long term.

Skinner gives them a great winger that is signed for a long time. Pits gives them a one year D man who can eat time like Phaneuf.

Toronto will gain 4 mil in cap but they will still have 19 mil to re-sign Bernier, Kadri, and any other their RFAs.

Good ideas IMO. Imaginative way to resolve this year's player needs and anticipate next year's negotiation needs. Especially, if the Canes also hit the FA market for a forward like Stalberg and a d-man like Ference.

As wing, I don't think Jeff will have chemistry with any Cane, he's a myopic shooter. Believe I'm in the minority here but he has great value now for other teams not scared off by his concussions. Maybe at center he would be forced to keep his up and look for offensive options.

Jordan likes to fish.  Any hockey fan knows it takes time to adjust from pike to catfish.  Could throw anybody off their game.  As long as we are being cerebral, we should also add all these to the list.

1.  So, looking fat in red.

2.  No time to adjust to Raleigh weather, even after a private session or 2 with Greg Fischel.

3.  Changing strategies from pike to catfish.

Ummm...guys, are we sure we want THIS kind of a player in our locker room:

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/9450899/mikhail-grabovski-rips-toronto-maple-leafs-coach-randy-carlyle

To be fair, he's marrying a local girl tomorrow and his first child was born a couple of days ago.  Finding himself suddenly needing to move to another town under those circumstances might have set him off.

Additionally, he's been a model student since arriving in Toronto (until today, lol).  Phil Kessel struggled mightily for the first 3 weeks of the season, but he was given all the time in the world to work through it, while Grabo's minutes were cut.  I guess he felt he deserved the same consideration since he did score 29 and 23 goals the last 2 seasons, respectively.

Just saying.

Unless Skinner plays center, and not wing, and im not sure even at center, , but concussions will still happen, just have this bad feeling, and as i have mentioned, i love this kid play..

Hedberg was bought out, not just waived.

And this is breaking:

The Dallas Stars have acquired center Shawn Horcoff from the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for defenseman Philip Larsen and a 2016 seventh-round draft pick.

Source

Looks like Dallas is making a big splash before Free Agency.

EDIT: Also, I don't know if this was mentioned, but Ballard signed a two year deal with Minnesota worth 1.5 per.

Well'p, I made this post in another thread on July 2nd, but it really belongs in this conversation since my peeps are talking about Moose Hedberg now.  He's not a top-tier backup but in my opinion better than Peters.  Nice to know he's been bought out.  Come on JR, make it happen.

Well, Johan Hedberg may be available through trade since NJ just traded for Rob Schneider.  Moose has one year left on his contract, a hefty $1.4 mil.  I've always liked him, was hoping he'd get a shot after the Thrashers let him go.  But, NJ scooped him up.  He's another Cane-killer that would be good to take out of the opposition's arsenal.

The fact MC still owns a $1.5+ million dollar home here in the Triangle does suggest he'd have the Canes on his short-list radar screen...

If LaRose and Corvo are resigned and that is what is stated at 2 PM. I am going to flip out.

After reading this mornings N&O, JR is going to say his annual "not doing anything" crap ... may do something late in the summer when the bargains are there!  Otherwise he's just going with Murphy and Bellemore.

Can't believe it ... so close and yet so far away!!!!
