MLB thread: Trade deadline time

Recommended Posts

I think its safe to say he's burned his last bridge with Red Sox fans. I know I would've loved to bring him back, others felt differently, but even I think now he can wear his Yankee cap into the HOF for all I care.

They're saying the Sox wouldn't have wanted him until late June. Why is that? Why wouldn't we want him sooner.

I heard that he signed a minor league contract and wouldn't be ready till mid-june. I just don't see 12 wins from mid june...on.

And yeah, as a Red Sox fan since birth, I could care less if he goes into the HOF with his Yankees hat...now.

HaHaHaHa :lol::lol::lol:

Clemens in his press conference: "I wanna go back and play with a team that only knows how to do one thing, win championships"

I'm sorry, I think he reported to the wrong stadium :lol::lol:

You mean you dont want Tavarez or Cory Snyder before them ;) lol

I agree I would want him asap. You NEVER have too much pitching. Injuries can happen etc

All I can say is this:

Wang

Mussina

Pettite

Clemens

Hughes

Find me a better starting 5 in baseball RIGHT NOW than that.

Sure Gip, be happy to :)

Schilling- proven veteran

Becket-undefeated as of yet

Dice-K -shows his skills, just needs more consistency

Tavarez(weak link) -Just biding a few more weeks till Lester's back in

Wakefield- solid veteran

and this doesn't include the bullpen which includes perhaps the CURRENT best closer and the MLB rookie of the month, Okajima.

Hughs-unproven

Mussina-Just coming off the DL-we'll see

Pettite-shaky starts

Clemens-we'll see what he does in June

Wang-I'll give you that one

Pavano- Oh sorry, out for the season

I didn't include Pavano on my list, anyway. He sucks.

Schilling-Hasn't been the same since he did that thing with his ankle in 2004

Matsuzaka-What's his ERA, 5.6?

Beckett-Didn't he start hot last year? What happened then?

Tavarez-What a joke, seriously.

Wakefield-I'll give you Wake.

Come June 1st, however:

Wang-Best sinkerballer in the game, doesn't walk anyone.

Mussina-Veteran with strong control of his pitches.

Pettite-Hard throwing lefty who spreads out his hits and doesn't feel pressure.

Clemens-Still throws 94. Split-fingered fastball makes batters strike out again and again.

Hughes-For every batter he lets on base, he strikes one out. This is the Yankees top prospect and will be the #2 behind Wang in 3 years.

You are delusional to think the Yanks pitching is better than Bostons

Mussisa- old and injury prone

Wang - I will give you but is not pitching as well as Beckett or Shilling

Pettite - has pitched well I will give you that

Hughes - unproven, 2 starts does not make a great pitcher

Clemens- old, still decent but did not even average 6 IP against the weaker NL Central lineups (yes the NL Central is the Worst divsion in baleball behind the NL West) very overpaid if you ask me. this move was very desperate

Sox.

Beckett - I was his worst critic but has done awesome this year

Schilling - has pitched very well this year as well. As long as heathy as good as Wang and Pettite

Wakefield - can be inconsistent but so far has been outstanding

Dice K - has not pitched that great but I think he will improve

here is the Wild Card

now Tavarez - avg at best

Lester _ if healthy will be just as good as Clemens or might even be better (this year not career wise)

Now lets compare bullpen closers

Rivera has been dreadful, is somethhing wrong with him. Closers eventually break down and he is old

Papelbon has blown 1 save but overall at this point of their careers I would take him over Rivera

NYs middle relief is susupect as best as well

So Advantage Boston.

Gip hate the Sox but at least try to bring some facts to your arguement.

Also I know Gip hates the NL West and the Dodgers

But I think my staff there is pretty comparable to some

of the best in the AL. yes they face weaker lineups but

I feel can hold their own with anyone

Penny last night was outstanding and is 4-0 with an ERA under 2

Lowe, kind of up and down but has an ERA under 4

Wolf a bit up and down but not bad as a 4th starter

Schmidt has been hurt but when healthy is as good as anyone

even the stiff Mark Hendrickson is 2-0 with an ERA of 1.30

Their closer Saito has 9 saves with an ERA of 1.80

Broxton the setup man ERA is 1.08

Billingley another setup man has struggled a bit (4.76 ERA) but

I fell will turn it around soon with his 18 k in 18 innings

Dodgers are looking good. Penny was awesome last night, I only saw clips but they said he dominated.

What I wouldnt do to have DLowe back in our bullpen :(

Oh yeah Gip, Beckett only threw fast balls for the most part last season and had the most HR's against at some point. This year he's added two more pitches into the mix and has been unbelievably successful. As for Schilling, with the exception of his first outing this year, what exactly are you seeing that isn't the same since the "bloody sock" incident?

You really think that? I'm really not expecting much from Lester this year, given what he's coming off of.

Then again, Clemens is only a 5-6 inning pitcher, just like Tavarez whose been surprisingly effective, lol.

Warbird the only reason why I say that is he pitched last year with cancer and did well. So far in rehab before his setback, he was touching 94-95 with his fastball and excellent curve. He will be like a deadline deal trade if he is healthy and for a 5th starter I think can do well.

Clemens will do okay but this is not the NL Central. He has to face much tougher lineups and he is going to be 45 soon. Credit to him but I think he will go 9-5 ish with a 3.85 to 4 ERA. I expect lester to at least do that if healthy. IMHO

**edit if the Yanks bullpen does not implode in Clemens starts, like Houstons did last year. So far NYs bullpen is God awful **

Farsworth ERA of 5.40

Vizciano ERA of 6.35

Rivera ERA of 8.44

Proctor ERA of 4.50

so your setup and closer a combined ERA over 7. so this is the best staff in baseball? sorry but no.

Red Sox

Papelbon ERA of 1.46

Donnelly ERA of 1.04

Okajima ERA of 0.56

even Pinero ERA of 2.31

but the Yanks have better pitching

Just a quick note Gip, after last night's 9-2 win over the BlueJays (sorry Marcus), Beckett is 1 win away from tying Babe Ruth's, yes Babe Ruth's, record for the most wins(8) to start a season.

What happened to Wang today vs Texas?

5 IP 11 H 7 ER

Yes he is good but struggling now.

They better hope Clemens gets in shape and in camp soon.

The bullpen also gave up 7 ER.

but the Yanks have great pitching

they have great hitting and mediocre pitching at best and when

Clemens comes in it will be a small upgrade but

he will not help their pathetic bullpen.

That was pretty funny. Still doesn't explain Tom Brady wearing a Yankee hat

Beckett doesn't get his 8th win :( . He left the game after the 4th with blisters on his finger. I hope Lester is getting close.

Edit: Beckett doesn't get his first loss either cause Red Sox win, going into the bottom of the 9th losing 5-0. :D

This year is starting to remind me of 04. It seems like every time they need a big hit they are getting it. :)

Also quiety my team in the bad NL West is 23-15 :) Go Dodgers.
