John Michael Liles in the AHL

Recommended Posts

JML has been a healthy scratch for the Leafs in the last 6 games and has now been sent down to the minors. Even though he has a NTC, I sure would like to see him in a Hurricane sweater!

Hmm, Liles would add additional offensive punch to our D corps, which could prove really interesting. But I wouldn't consider taking his contract without significant relief from the Leafs.

Liles contract (the cap hit is $3.875M for each year):

2013-14: $4.25m

2014-15: $4.25m

2015-16: $2.75m

According to CapGeek, a Leafs buyout next June would cost them $4.67m (http://www.capgeek.com/buyout-calculator/?player_id=553).  Add in his salary for the rest of this year (approx. $3.18m) and it will cost them around $7.85m if they can't deal Liles but instead buy him out next summer.  So they should be very motivated to retain a large chunk of his salary.

Which leaves me with three questions:

1) How much of his salary would you need the Leafs to retain?

2) What are you willing to give up in a trade? (could you make them take Westgarth's contract plus a 3rd round pick? If they want a prospect, who's off limits for us?)

3) What do you do with our current d-men? One would seem to have to go.

Tkabs, Komisarek, Liles. Fool me once, Fool me twice etc. etc etc.

(I still have hope for Komi but we don't need Liles and his contract)
