I'll second that... but I couldn't help but notice the sign in front of the store prohibiting the consumption of alcohol... at a wine shop with a tasting room.

Explain that one. :P

I'd be happy to, asu. That's meant to deter people from drinking alcohol outside the shop itself. In the state of California, as many of you probably don't know, it's illegal to consume alcoholic beverages outside the boundaries of a a private residence, or in front of a dining establishment. (Consider someone hanging around in front of a restaurant with a cold one. Don't you think that'd be illegal?)

I'll let the official language for a nearby California city explain it to you, asu, as well as for anyone else pondering this:

http://www.ci.encinitas.ca.us/NR/rdonlyres/E6A91A5C-42B9-4CAF-B3A2-839018D878B4/0/9c28.pdf' target="_blank">http://www.ci.encinitas.ca.us/NR/rdonlyres...78B4/0/9c28.pdf[/post]

(Of course, one of the few states that legally allows drinking alcohol in public places is Nevada. When Mr. G and I toured The Strip during a three-day stay in Las Vegas, we noticed numerous folks tipping back cold brews or sipping blended margaritas while they strolled down the street. Talk about a Mardi Gras vibe.)

So, yeah, we probably ought to re-write the phrasing on that sign. But because we're doing our best to comply with the wishes of the neighbors -- that our store is clean, well run, and quiet above all -- we'd much rather err on the side of safety to remain on good terms with the Alcoholic Beverage Control deparment (the folks who issue liquor licenses) and the Yorba Linda Planning Commission (the group that approved our conditional-use permit).

So there you have it, asu. And, yes, we had a decent sales day today on Tuesday, traditionally a slow day at the cash register in the world of retail. ;)
