2014/15 In-Season Canes News, Updates and Talk

Recommended Posts

I would not expect any trades immediately. BP/RF still need to evaluate the team as a whole, without injuries before tossing the first grenade.I do think they have some initial thoughts on some players on their individual games performance and how some have/have not stepped up during the critical injuries. We need more time and hopefully some improvement of our top paid players to raise their game to receive any value in a trade. If they do not raise their game the question on the table is what is their value? We may have to eat some salary to be able to trade a Ward/Staal/Semin.....I think the NTC's may not end up to be a problem as the longer this season goes on with continual loosing results, the players in question may want to get off the Titanic. So far we have not played any top teams,so be prepared to see 5-0,6-1,6-2 type of games once we get into the meat of the schedule.I did enjoy watching the young guns in the Buffalo game but see myself becoming less interested and more disengaged with results similar to the Jets game. My only hope is that RF/BP do not take a full season to initiate change. No reason to waste an entire year before making a move, if a move can be made.

Well we have had the 5-0 game, is it 6-1 in Edmonton?

Jack Eichel, from Boston University... Thats my guy... If we keep imploding. But i agree, with Gerbs and E.Staal  coming back, will give us some offense... Not sure how we fix the  defense.

Well #2 is Jack Eichel who some think is as good or better than McDavid. So a last place finish assures us a generational talent. But whooboy the pain of being THAT bad.... :bangHead:

Alcohol dulls the pain.   Although at this rate, I'm gonna need a liver transplant for Thanksgiving.

Actually if you saw Cam's interview during the Flames game, he did mention that Ronnie sat down with him during the summer and told him he was likely gone, then a short period later, that changed, so there were some, probably slight, interest in him at least.

Also, there were some interest in Eric from the Leafs, but terms could not work out.

I had always realized that the last place team had a 100% chance of getting one of the two generational forwards, but what I didn't really consider is that that new system only gives the second to last place team basically only a 33% chance of getting one of them.

High motivation to make sure that if you tank, you better tank all the way.

There will be a race for the bottom at some point this year.

Not that this is in any way relevant to us or anything....

The canes will be dead last until February and then start winning meaningless games down the stretch. This will cause a false sense of hope for next season and secure a pick in the 7 - 10 range where you can't acquire the franchise player you desparately need. The canes just need to tank and get one of the top 2 picks this year. If they are going to have a horrible year, this is the year to do it. Get a cornerstone player to build around and go from there

You might wanna throw in overtime too. If we manage to say take the remaining games to OT and lose, we still get a point.

That equates to 77 points (including the 2 points we've already received). If things fall like last year, we would be in the #2 or #3 spot.

So take a knee, and run the clock out? Might just work.

I really hope you guys are being funny. If not you should be ashamed. Haven't you ever watched tin cup? Sheesh. I hope none of you are coaches. These posts made me want to puke.

ever since the 2006 ECF Canes' Nation has been rooting for the Slugs to lose every game they play.   In the race for a top dreft pick, we have to root for them to win?

Yes, there is more than a dollop of gallows humor in there. Yes, fairly black humor. But stil pretty clear, I thought.

I thought about using the sarcasm thing, but then I thought, who would not be able to tell that I don't actually want us to finish the year with no wins? I thought: Nobody would really think that. I was, again, wrong.

So Staal tells Elliotte Friedman He hopes to be back Tuesday and doesn't think Carolina's season is over. He hopes he can be a difference maker. Calls  trade talks premature. He said he wants to be a Hurricane long term.

Good enough. I think we all hope he can be a difference maker.

I'm pinning a lot of hope on the return of our veterans from the boo-boo list. I keep reminding myself that before the wave of injuries there were many questions surrounding this team, questions about could they be good enough to make a playoff run. Maybe soon we will be able to answer those questions one way or another.

In,my opinion, I think you have a better chance at making your team better with trades for vets than you can get with drafts. Not to many young players make a big difference on a team that is not good around them. So with that said, I think the Canes just need to rebuild with new players that are willing to come here and want to play for the Canes abd have a nice place for their families. It just seems very strange that with the same players thru different coaches, the team doesn't change what happens on ice. So with that said,,keep the new coaches and get a new team,at least 50 % new!

Not saying tank, but no wins by game 8, kind of requires some levity:  "if you don't laugh you'll cry."

We have a bit of work to do to get playoff bound. McDavid bound? No work. We're there.

Still, let's start the climb tomorrow.

the idea of purposely "tanking" bugs me to no end.  I want to see the Canes fight for each shift and in every game.  If, at the end of the season, they are in line for a top draft pick, so be it.

Well one thing is for sure. Not only is this the earliest I've ever seen the tank argument get some real play, but it's earliest by many months.

Just to be clear. For me the idea of tanking is never acceptable.

That said, it is far better to come in last than to come in 29th.  .

THAT said, at least for me, let me be perfectly clear: in terms of tank talk 7 games in as far as REALLY saying that....

This team is too talented to tank.

Totally Agree and while I understand the joking etc.. I guess my point was it really isn't funny either :)

I want to go on record here as saying this:

Even with this Losing Streak, Bad start etc.. this team will get it together this year and make the playoffs.

I think the goaltending will get better (it hasn't been great) and the other pieces will will be in place and urgency will pick up and maybe maybe this worse than slow start will be a positive thing and the team can kick into gear sooner rather than later and get in the playoffs.
