2014/15 In-Season Canes News, Updates and Talk

Yes but this year there are two generational talents. Since the last place team can at worst drop only one spot last place team is guaranteed either Eichel or McDavid.

Noah Hanifin and Dylan Strome are also looking really strong.  This is the year to have high picks.

Oh, gotcha.

And to make matters worse, the #29 team has only a 1/3 chance of getting EITHER guy.

#30: guarantee

#29: probably not

Absolutely.

"Embrace the Tank" is too strong. Trust me, we've been down this debate before.

But Embrace the Rebuild. Which can include moving good players out for picks and prospects, thereby enhancing the chance of the team, depspite trying, finishing last.

Not only are we basically out of it as early as I can remember. But we have a GM and Coach who, unlike JR are not grapsing for one more season, AND one of the best drafts in history coming up.

If ever there were a year to compile first and even second round picks....this woud be it.

I just hope we're not setting up a high draft pick for Las Vegas or Toronto II.

So Justin Shugg has been recalled and Nesty joins Tlusty and Semin on the injured list.

This marks the first career NHL recall for Shugg, 22, who is in his fourth professional season. The Niagara Falls, Ont., native leads Charlotte in goals (9) and ranks second in points (11) this season, in 17 games played

And the evaluation process continues...

Nothing against Shugg, who deserves a shot.....but this has declined beyond even evaluation now...

I think there is a (reasonable) concern in the organiZAtion that if they don't bring in everyone for a look people will complain. They will anyway, but changing the face of the franchise is fraught with risk in a market this size, so I think RF/BP are being really deliberate.

I hope McGinn gets some time in Raleigh at some point this season.

Me too! I also wonder if Montreal or Toronto (which is close enough for their mgt to visit tomorrow night) have specifically asked to see Shugg, who is an Ontario kid.

I don't see this team staying in Raleigh. I fear that the writing is on the wall and the Canes will be in Vegas by 2016.

I think this area is waaaaay more appealing to a player than that one. But I'm also not 23 anymore :)

I'm also not sure. Casino's and hotels would line up to provide packaged to include watching an NHL game on your trip to Vegas....

Yeah, but who would root for the home team? I don't think taking in a game is big priority for strippers, dealers and Cirque de Soliel performers :)

I really don't think the Canes will be moving, not anytime soon. The revenue the team is getting is still there, despite the loss of season ticket holders.

Vegas has to prove that they have the season ticket base to even be considered.

They are a vacation destination and I really don't see the interest from the local community.

Florida and Arizona have more losses across the board than the Canes.

Especially Florida. In their 21 year history:

They've made the playoffs 4 times, (95-96 ; 96-97 ; 99-00 ; 11-12)1 Stanley Cup Finals Appearance(95-96).

They've had only 8 winning seasons.

They've only won 1 Division Title (11-12)

I agree, and think RF is committed enough to this market to join (or at least organize) an ownership group once PK's caca meter is full.

Shugg is not the type of player that you need a trade to acquire.  I would think his recall has something to do with him having a right hand shot to fill in at RW if/when Staal moves to LW and Lindholm moves to center.

My guess is the opportunity arose and we recalled him to get a look. Find out where he is in his development. I'm sure we will see more of this type of recall before seasons end. His team leading 9 goals earned him a look.

Well, if we wanted to replace Nestrasil with another RW we had a choice of Shugg, Greg Nemisz (out for season), Chad LaRose, or Jared Staal.  I don't think we need to look for much more of a reason than that.

I wonder how Aaron Palushaj is looking to the organization about now?

OBXer, I am in full agreement with your thoughts, and like you, I really believe, with this season virtually down the tubes, we'll be seeing more and more of our top to bottom roster(AHL and beyond), to really sort out this mess that Rutherford left for Francis.

Lake, what's up with Nemisz, hadn't heard?

Checkers scoring leader is out for the season with a knee injury.  :facepalm2:
