2015/16 In-Season Talk

Oh the blessings of another year of Hockey.  Preparing tailgating essentials, Beer, Steak, Beer etc. etc.  Did I mention  Beer?   A quote came to mind. classic one actually.  perhaps we can wait until after the 1st game to Debbie Downer.

Manage your expectations guys.  This is still hands down the weakest crop of forwards the team has ever had.  If Lindy and Rask have break out years then that statement changes.

10th overall pick. Here's to another year of missing the playoffs boys.

I tend to agree with this and 10th overall seems very likely, but it's not as much of a negative as this sounds. I'm perfectly fine missing the playoffs this season if we stick to HCBP's system and try our tails off every night. Things are (finally) trending in the right direction. I think most here are realistic about our chances this season, but hope for best. I, for one, am excited about tailgating Saturday and screaming my lungs out.

DROP THE PUCK!  :tailgate:

Well if you read just about any national writer, we're already done and kicking the tires on Austin Mathews. So why go along? It's about that time when this team surprises everyone.

It's hard to try to predicit what this team is capable of after the last few years of underperformance, but there is a way, and I'm holding onto that until it's not there anymore.

I get the managing of expectations, but I think the last several years and the national media have done that already.

One shout out to Boomer Gordon on XM, who maintains we could be this year's surprise team.

I'm not opening the Island yet, but it is out there waiting.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Boomer is the only hockey talking head who has a clue what's really trending in the NHL.

Dear Scotty Laughlin: How's that whole "The Oil are sure to deal RNH" working out for ya?

Faulk named "Alternate" captain.

This is good, but I wish they'd have announced it over the PA system as he was being escorted to the box for mixing it up the other night.

Good for Faulk!

I don't think we will make the playoffs, but I'm fine with this if we show improvement and continue to build our identity with another year under BP's system.

I honestly don't know where we'll finish in the standings.  The east, heck the whole league has stiff competition on playoff spots.  Of the 30 teams in the league, I think about 25-26 of them have a legit shot at making the playoffs.  The teams in the east I'm penciling in are:

Tampa Bay

New York Rangers

Washington

New York Islanders

Montreal

Detroit

Pittsburgh

That leaves 1 final playoff spot, with Carolina having to compete against the likes of Philly, Boston, Florida, Ottawa, Columbus, and even Buffalo.  I don't know if this roster can get it done or not.  All I want to see out of this team is improvement from our top players, Lack to emerge as the #1, Hanifin to have a solid year, and the team be competitive on a nightly basis.

I do want to see Eric traded if this team is out of it by the December.  Same with Cam.

On a side note, I have no idea who's going to make the playoffs out west.  The teams I have penciled in are:

Anaheim

St Louis

Nashville

Minnesota

Dallas

Chicago (benefit of the doubt)

Beyond those names, I think every team except Arizona has a legit shot at making it.  I would think San Jose would have a bounce back year.  Barry Melrose picked the Kings to win the cup this year, but I think they'll be a bubble team again.

IMO until BP puts a winning product out on the ice, the verdict is still out on him as well.  If things do not go "well" this year he could be the next one that is shipped out.

I don't think Eric survives here with another coaching change.

Unless this team does some on the ice buffoonery that embarrasses this organization this year I'd like to think he's safe until the middle of year 3 at the absolute earliest. I think if RF's bought into BP's plan he's got to give him at least 3 years to show improvement with a roster that leaves even the fans saying it'll be a miracle if make the playoffs.

If the fans are saying it's gotta be a miracle why would you expect BP to be fired with this roster?

If I'm betting, I going against the Wings this year. Loss of HOF coach and everyone is a bit older leads me to believe that they will miss...but not by much.
