OBXer Report post Posted October 14, 2016 Quote Chip Alexander @ice_chip 7h7 hours ago Canes send McKeown to Charlotte. He will join the Checkers for their season-opening trip to play the Texas Stars on Friday and Saturday in Austin, Texas. OBXer Report post Posted October 15, 2016 Checkers Fall Flat In Season Opener Quote The Checkers showed a sign of life early on in the third, with Patrick Brown throwing a wrister on goal from the point that was redirected by Andrew Poturalski over the glove of Stars goalie Maxime Legace. Charlotte couldn’t spark a rally, though, mustering just eight shots on goal in the third and falling to Texas by a final score of 6-2. Charlotte will get a shot at redemption tomorrow (today), as the two teams will square off in a rematch.
remkin Report post Posted October 15, 2016 Bummer. We've got a lot of talent down there, or so we think. Who was in goal? I'm sure they will get their act together.

Rookie netminder Alex Nedeljkovic, making his first career AHL start, saw his night come to an end after the first, as veteran Michael Leighton took over between the pipes for the remainder of regulation. remkin Report post Posted October 15, 2016 I linked a very good article on CanesCountry about our prospects. On Nedeljovic, the basic idea was huge talent, but not anywhere near ready in terms of positioning and other aspects. Hopefully he gets that stuff figured out in Charlotte. It's nice that he made the team and speaks well of him, but the flipside is Atlshuller, being demoted puts more riding on Nedel figuring his game out. OBXer Report post Posted October 16, 2016 Checkers Suffer Second Loss in Texas The Checkers made more of a game of it this time, but the result was the same as they suffered another loss in Texas, this time by a 4-2 score, to fall to 0-2-0 on the young season. Andrew Poturalski and Patrick Brown scored Alex Nedeljkovic started for the second time in as many games but lost the decision to Texas
remkin Report post Posted October 16, 2016 Nedljkovic: 7 goals in 4 periods, .829 save %. Still a prospect with some stuff to figure out.
OBXer Report post Posted October 22, 2016 Checkers Torch Wild 8-3 For First Win Quote Nicholas Niedzielski - Poturalski’s four points (2g, 2a) were one shy of the franchise record … Three other Checkers recorded multi-point nights: Lowe (1g, 1a), Ryan (1g, 2a) and Patrick Brown (0g, 2a) … Dwyer’s goal was his first as a Checker and first in the AHL since Dec. 6, 2009 … Wallmark’s goal stood as his first in North America as a pro .. Poturalski has goals and points in each of his last three games, Brown, Wallmark and Matt Tennyson have points in their last two
Whaler1 Report post Posted October 22, 2016 Hope they are turning it around as well. One thing that kind of sticks out in the box score though with so many GF, is one of our big hopefuls, Fleury -- 0 pts, even +/-
OBXer Report post Posted October 22, 2016 Good pickup on the Fleury stat. Something to watch as we get deeper in the season. Once he gets accustomed to the AHL it will be interesting to see how he plays.
remkin Report post Posted October 22, 2016 I have high hopes for Fleury. Not just in the D zone either. But just 3 games. Speaking of 3 games: Poturalski 2 ppg Ryan 1.3 ppg Brown 1.3 ppg Top 3 scorers on the team. All centers. McClement, 0.0 ppg, is a center is all I'm saying. Walmark has .67 ppg. Come on Jay. Don't make us go to one of them.
OBXer Report post Posted October 23, 2016 Checkers Fall 2-1 in Iowa by Paul Branecky Quote The Checkers weren’t able to recreate the offensive fireworks of one night prior as they concluded a back-to-back set in Iowa with a 2-1 loss on Saturday. Team captain Derek Ryan scored on a shorthanded breakaway in the first period Ryan, an AHL All-Star last season, now has five points (3g, 2a) in four games this season, making him one of three Checkers scoring at a point-per-game pace or better

Ok but we have one of the best PK units and Jmac is an important part of that. Last night the PK got scorched a couple of times but over all it has been good. the 4th line has had some really good shifts in the early going. See your point rem and real but maybe a bit early for a call-up IMO
remkin Report post Posted October 23, 2016 (edited) I don't disagree, just bears watching. I am re-watching Arrested Development, a favorite comedy series, on Netfilx. A long running gag is the young son, George Michael has this very plain and monotoned girlfriend, Anne. The running joke is when someone says that's his girlfriend, they look and say, "her"? The comeback is "she must be funny". At one point the Patriarch sees her and say's "her?" to George Michael who says, "she's really funny". And the Patriarch says, "let's hope so". I keep thinking of McClemment that way. He doesn't score and has a bad +/-, but he kills penatlies. "lets hope so." is my reply at this point. Hey, he's signed. He does some little things well. Of course the ultimate joke on Anne? She's not funny. Edited October 23, 2016 by remkin

OBXer Report post Posted October 29, 2016 McGinn Scores Two as Checkers Win Home Opener Quote Falling into a two-goal hole early on seemed like it would spell a Griffins rout, but some game plan tweaks put the Checkers back on track.

OBXer Report post Posted October 30, 2016 Michael Leighton adds to Shutout Record, Derek Ryan Scores Two as Checkers Top Grand Rapids 3-0 Quote The AHL’s all-time shutouts leader struck again Saturday night, blanking the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-0 to clinch a weekend sweep by the Checkers. The star of the night was Leighton, who notched his 47th career shutout by turning aside all 30 shots the Griffins sent his way While the goaltending took the headlines, the Checkers top offensive trio of Ryan, Zykov and Brock McGinn played a key part in getting the Checkers an early lead they could run with. .
