Kelly Cup 2017/ Florida Everblades

ESTERO, FL –  The Florida Everblades will battle the Orlando Solar Bears in the first round of the 2017 Kelly Cup Playoffs in a best-of-seven series that begins this Wednesday (April 12) at Gemain Arena.

 

Everblades  finished the season 1st with 97 pts

 

Game 1:  Wednesday, April 12 vs. Orlando, 7:30 p.m. (Germain Arena) 
 

Game 2:  Friday, April 14 vs. Orlando, 7:30 p.m. (Germain Arena)  
 

Game 3:  Thursday, April 20 at Orlando, 7:00 p.m. (Amway Center)


Game 4:  Saturday, April 22  at  Orlando, 7:00 p.m. (Amway Center)


Game 5:  Sunday, April 23 at Orlando, 4:00 p.m. (Amway Center)**


Game 6:  Tuesday, April 25 vs. Orlando, 7:30 p.m. (Germain Arena)** 


Game 7:  Wednesday, April 26 vs. Orlando, 7:30 p.m.  (Germain Arena)**

Solar Bears Shine in 4-2 Win Over ‘Blades in Game 1 by Keaton Hanley

Despite the numerous chances for the Everblades throughout the rest of the third, the Blades were unable to get another past Massa, and with Nedeljkovic pulled for the extra attacker the Solar Bears sealed it with an empty net goal by Denver Manderson.

O’Donnell’s Overtime Goal Lifts ‘Blades to Game 3 Win

ORLANDO, FL – Brendan O’Donnell scored the second of his two goals at 12:52 of overtime to seal a 5-4 victory for the Everblades over the Orlando Solar Bears in Game 3 of the South Division Semifinals Thursday night at the Amway Center. Orlando now leads the best-of-seven series 2-1.

 

Anthony Peters earns the win making 32 saves, while Massa takes the loss allowing five goals on 41 shots.   The Everblades were also a perfect 8-for-8 on the penalty kill.

The two teams will now meet in Game 4 on Saturday

Orlando has taken a 3-1 lead in its best-of-7  series, and is now one win away from advancing to the ECHL South Division finals in the Kelly Cup Playoffs. It would be the first playoff series win in franchise history. Game 5 is at 4 p.m. Sunday in Orlando.

 

Solar Bears players even got involved in an altercation with the entire Florida team in the final minutes. The ensuing brawl resulted in 11 game misconduct penalties between the two teams.

Each goaltender got involved in the brawl and the game was delayed for about 15 minutes as the officials tried to straighten out the culprits.

Suspensions handed out after that game!

The ECHL on Sunday announced the following fines and suspensions resulting from ECHL Playoff Game #C-4, Florida at Orlando, on April 22.

 

Florida’s Mitchell Heard has been suspended for three games and fined an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions at 19:14 of the third period. Heard is suspended one game for receiving an instigating penalty in the final five minutes of regulation and two games as a result of his game misconduct under Rule #53.4.

 

Heard will miss the remainder of Florida’s series against Orlando. In the event the series ends prior to Game 7, Heard’s suspension will carry over to the 2017-18 regular season.

 

Florida’s Jake Baker has been suspended for one game and fined an undisclosed amount as a result of his actions at 19:14 of the third period. Baker is fined and suspended under Rule #28 – Supplementary Discipline.

 No. He was with the Solar Bears for about a month or so but was released in February

Everblades Bounce Back with 5-1 Victory in Game 5 by Robert Molnar

Too bad they couldn't go further, but it was still a pretty good run. Glad to hear that Ned seems to be settling in a bit. Hopefully he can play more in Charlotte next season.

It would definitely be nice if, when the Checkers make the playoffs next season, they are doing it behind a hot Hurricane prospect instead of a rented Flame.  Here's hoping.
