I can get down with Stormy. An Ice Hog likes to party

Quote

A group of magical, furry animals crossed an ice bridge over the Bering Strait from Russia to Alaska, and then they traveled deep into the Far North of what is now called Canada.

Mysterious winter creatures

These amazing creatures were Ice Hogs. They are related to ground hogs, but they are much larger, and much more mysterious. And they love everything about winter: the snow, the wind, the cold. Every year, they hold a great celebration to say goodbye to winter and remind it to come back and play again next year. Sometimes they spend weeks playing games, dancing and holding competitions.

Now I'm convinced. Stormy has to stay to make the arena experience worthwhile.

And to clear up any confusion Stormy isn't a pig, technically he is an ice-hog, a big difference.

I stand corrected.  This does clear things up.

It's quiet today, so might as well...

Next up, the importance of Canesvision.

Why have we decided not to spend nearly the $ anymore for the Canesvision production pieces?

Invest in it!   It is a video age.  People enjoy it.  Kids love it.

Things that have been done that absolutely work:

Recently:
1. The Canes kid art (players guess who they drew)  This was a great bit.

2. Highlights from other NHL games in progress

Past:
2. Stormy bits -
    a) Stormy beats up opposing fan (cleverly of course)
b - Stormy cancels date when he realizes she's a Caps fan
    c)  Stormy does X to team Y (doesn't matter too much what it is, just make it funny)

3.  Sock puppets - another of our unique signature bits.  Always a hit
4.  The Storminator (Stormy Voltron) striding through enemy cities wreaking havoc

5.  Any hurricane (weather) footage interspersed with Canes highlights
6. Specific slams on opposing cities/teams
    a) To Hell with the Devil (my fave)
b- Quint shooting Jaws (San Jose)
    c) others - don't remember them right now
7. General harassment of the player in the penalty box

8.  There are many others, and should be new ones all the time.

Don't underestimate the pregame psych-up video.  Sure, there is nobody there that early now, but it will change when the success rolls in.

Invest in it.

Agree with all of the above. Man, watching that video got me amped.  No question, spend some $$ on top notch production videos get the fans going and watch that juice rub off on the players.

Remember when we played the Sabres and they would 'ask' Jim Kelly who the best team is and he would say "Thats easy, the Canes" and everyone would roar.

Meant to mention someone else's comment about the siren bringing the boys out of the dressing room. Its obviously a heavy handle to spin based on the sound 75% of the time sounding like an animal groaning/moaning in heat or pain. The best I ever heard was Johnny F who went nuts on it, sounded like full on Stuka dive bomber. Would make more sense to simply have someone push a button and a consistent timed loud pre-recorded wail goes off.

My nomination for the video collection   The one, and only, the original... that led to our signature goal celebration:

1. Short version

2. The story behind it

Well, they pay the guy and video him doing it in a Canes sweater and you got it.

Just ran across this, and immediately thought of OBXer.

edit: more for OBXer.  Apparently, there is a zoo in Japan that has an "escaped animal" drill every year.  Sounds like an excuse to persecute loveable, innocent mascots to me.

You "ran across" it?

Dude, if you can find this *edit*, you probably have too much time on your hands.

I would expect any comparison by you of spend on Canes to be compared to $$$ on beverages.  Please provide further info....

Beverages inside the arena suffer from stale keg syndrome unfortunately, especially the craft beers.  Unfortunately we need better fan attendance and the occasional Buffalo game to force new kegs.

So until that happens I recommend the Labatts Blue large can(*) or your own canned/bottled beverage of choice.

(*) - not a commentary on Canadian beer superiority, I just tend to go with a Canadian beer out of hockey solidarity.

Maybe they could have Zima on draft and also serve cosmopolitans.   That would be ideal IMO.  That is a real beer and a real mixes drink.

I have absolutely no response to that.
