Hurricanes need a Rival for next season !

Recommended Posts

For whatever reason Southern teams just don’t get into the rivalry thing. When did Tampa, Panthers, Thrashers or Canes ever have a rivalry? Never. Meanwhile no matter how crap or good, or one team crap the other good, Edmonton/Calgary, Philly/Pit, Habs/Leafs, Habs/Boston, Leafs/Boston, Rangers/Philly etc etc always have a kick your *edit* rivalry going. Year in year out.

I think our natural rivalry has to be Sweden. With our growing number of Finns it has to be Sweden. If Lindy gets traded will know B)

Reason I know this is because I asked several of them including friends.

I love statistically significant sampling.  I never considered them a rival and I been a fan for a couple of years.  I base rivalry definition on 1. Their fans in our barn.  2. Their ability to dominate us on the ice.  I know .... purely subjective evaluation but thats me.

Just consider- if fans of a team really hate you because you owned them and denied them a cup on several occasions might want to downplay that your team means anything to them in terms of rivalry.(closet psychology 1 OH 1)  I bet Broduer would say he loves us..... now

For a while there I thought that Buffalo was going to be a rival based on us eliminating them in the 3rd round and also how their fans acted in our barn.  That kind of died off though.

One team turning into a rec-league team can certainly take its toll on a fledging rivalry; both teams turning into pushovers, fugeddaboutit.

I'd be ok with alternate rivals.

Can we have co-rivals, one at home and one on the road?  And then switch them halfway through the season?

Simple. Southern teams haven’t been around long enough for the franchises and fan bases to be crappy toward each other. In addition, the dynamics are different. I welcome the day we can be a thorn in another team’s side.

The above few posts are why I keep coming back.  More brilliance from our community.

Alternate co-rivals.  Love it!

Rivalries can develop without geographical considerations. Wings/ Avalanche was great while it lasted. Everybody was " involved " from skate around until they were forced off the ice at games end.
