Sounds like a Dundon move.

Biggest mistake that org made was firing Hitch. With that lineup, if you're not winning hockey games, guys need to be escorted to the freakin' washroom mirrors.

Well I was reminded that the Canes are wearing Whalers sweaters on the 23rd. Which as a Whalers/Cane fan since 1980, I think the history idea is great. It was also mentioned that “Brass Bonanza” would be played after each goal. LMAO!!!

Playing it will not happen due to our pathetic offense!!! Mmmmm... maybe one time.

If somebody has the time for a little research, I would be very curious to know what percentage of Svech's goals have been scored while on the ice with Ahi and/or Turbo. I'm thinking it might be as many as half while only being on the ice with one of them maybe 10-15% of the time...

Ill keep looking for specific Svech goals but

Svech w/ Aho 8 GF, 4 GA (90% O zone FOs, Assuming most of that is PP)

Svech w/o Aho 13 GF, 13 GA

Aho w/o Svech 30 GF, 20 GA

Folks, last night was tough.   Team wxray has capitulated.  Let me explain.

Back in '02, I was a casual fan, enough of a fan to watch or listen to all games.  We'd go to an occasional game.  Mrs. wxray didn't seem to care.  Then one day, I came in from a ride where I was listening to the game in slight angst, and saw that the TV was on.  I turned it off.  Mrs. wxray says, "Hey!  Turn that back on!  I'm watching it."

I saw a fan born before my eyes.

After that, we started going to games regularly.  Despite the lockout, we signed on as season ticket holders.  The rest is history, in a mostly good way.  Mrs. wxray was always the upbeat one.  As a Cubs fan, I always looked at the down side of every game and season.

Well last night, Mrs. wxray "broke."  I'm so angry with our used car salesman running the show, I've pretty much gotten to the point of just tuning out the game while watching.  Last night, I fell asleep during the 3rd period.  Every now and then, I'd hear noise and wake up, but always saw the score was not in our favor.  Mrs. left the room and went somewhere.  After the game, I found her in the other room crying.  She says she's had it and we are done.  I agreed.  We are done.

We have 8 more games, paid for, which we'll go to.  But after that, we are done.  (I pleaded for an exception if there are playoffs, and she said we can talk about it later.)

Her point was this is absolutely no fun at all in any way, shape, or form, be it on TV or at the game.  I cannot disagree.  She really took last night hard.  It is over for her.

So, it is over for me too.  I won't go away just yet.  However, we're dead inside.  We've gone through all the stages of grief and have reached acceptance.  It was fun while it lasted.

one of the hardest things about watching this team is there isn't really any player to watch or latch onto.   I mean ever year their is at least a Skinner or Staal or Ward or Turbo who gets hot and you want to get behind them and start watching and see how far they are gonna take their hot streak.  Even when we aren't that good, at least there was a player or 3 to love and watch and root for.  I just can't find anyone to care about on this team.  No number one goalie, no big goal scorer, nothing.  I mean it was gonna be Aho and Svech and TT this year.  maybe a Darling revival?  Maybe our blue line becomes the best in the league?  Maybe one of our Ahlers has an amazing year?  Nope Nada.  After last night there is a little hope that Svech and Aho might get going and be something to watch.  But than again, they will both probably slump the rest of them month.  I love Williams and think he is a great captain and is doing his job but its not that exciting.  Ferland is fun to watch but you knew his goal scoring was going to slow down at some point.  I want to at least love a few players on this team but they are making it hard to do.  I think this is the first team in my 20 yrs of watching every game that I really couldn't care less if they were all traded. It's still early, I wish a goaltender would step up, 1-2 players would start putting up some goals and getting on a fun pace to watch, something man.

So i guess Aho putting his name with The Great One earlier wasn’t worth following? Aho and Svech aren’t worth attention?

Wow! tough crowd.

Eh, it was fun first 10games of the year and yes I thought Aho was going to have an amazing season scoring goals and leading us to victories.   He is putting up assists, thats cool and everything but we need goals and he is our only goal scorer and he is not scoring much at all.  I had high hopes that Svech was going to be another Eichel, Laine, Matthews and come into the league tearing it up and be nominated for rookie of the year.  So far he is a very good 18yr old trying to find his NHL scoring touch and game.  Last night was promising that maybe once he finds it he will tear it up and it will be fun to watch.  I mean it's early, if those two go on a goal scoring fiasco and someone emerges as our awesome number one goalie than we will have something to grasp onto besides a bunch of mediocrity, slumps, and career worst years for everyone.

Really? It was Ferland, not Aho, leading the team in goals when he went down--with Aho and TT the guys feeding him. Since, it's been our intractable coach we've suffered from, who has not seen fit to put a finisher (Willy? Svech? Foegele, Martinook? Buuuuuueller, for cripe's sakes??) on their line. Because he's Rod the Bod--and He Just Knows what works.

What I meant to ask is out of Svech's 8 goals, how many came with either Aho or Turbo on the ice?  The eye test says they have chemistry and it just seems like half or or more of his goals have occurred in these limited situations.

It makes zero sense that those three are not together. TT is comfortable on either wing, and Svech is everything Ferland has been--only faster, younger, and with better hands.

I think, I'm being serious and not arbitrary, without any secondary scoring we are desperate to not put all our eggs in the same basket or line in this case. If Svech skates with Aho the opposition only need to shutdown one line. The chances are our other lines won't score.

On the other hand and more to your point, what do we have to lose. One true scoring line is better than none. Svech is coming on and I think he has earned a shot on the top line. You never know if we can get one line going the others might follow.

....if we can add a piece though it starts to look better.  If we can add two it could really start to look better.

Svech / Aho / Kapanen (or fill in the blank)

Turbo / Zibanejad (or fill in the blank) / Necas

Ferland / Staal / Williams

Foegele / Wallmark / Bishop (I really like this player's energy)

Slavin / Pesce

DeHaan / Faulk

Fluery / McKeown

That's a lineup that can compete.  If the goalies do their part, that's a line-up that could contend.

Traded for the above: Rask, Hamilton, McGinn, TVR, PDG,  any prospect not names Necas or Kouk, etc.

Two things about last nights Caps game for Rod.

1. On Ovechkin's goal where there was definite interference, Why did you fold when the ref came over? That was the time you needed to channel your inner Torts. An ejection would have been better than the weak  argument you came with. That was the turning point of the game.

2. After Darling's ups and downs , you left him out to dry in the shoot out. He played great against the Capitals best, and some are league leaders, and you sent out that line up. If you're not going to help your players get better, either trade them or get yourself out. Everybody on our team has to wonder when you won't be there for them. How do you suit up for a game knowing the coach is not going to give his best.

So as a side note to Scott Darling, your current coach and the last coach both let you down. I hope your next team does better.

I think it's time for the Foegele experiment to end.  Yes he brings some energy, but really nothing else.  Much of his energy also seems like wasted motion.  Lots of movement resulting in nothing.  When the puck is on his stick he rarely looks to make a play.....he mostly looks like he can't wait to get it off his stick no matter where it goes.

I was a Foegele fan during preseason and the first couple of games, but at some point you have to admit when you were wrong.  I was wrong.  I do believe he can get there one day, but he is not ready for this level of play right now.  He needs to go back to the A, build some confidence, and let the game slow down for him.

I don't think it's to the point of saying anyone was wrong, but the magic he brought during preseason and the first handful of regular season games is definitely in hiding.  I'm like many of us - time to give him a night or two off, or let him be a big fish in Charlotte for a while and try again later.  Give Necas another shot, or give Poturalski or even McKegg a chance (of course the real move that needs to be made is a big trade to bring someone in to force him out of the lineup that way, but i'm not holding my breath on that possibility).  He's just taking up space at this point, true enough.
