Florida Everblades 2018/19 Season

Recommended Posts

I think the writing's on the wall for the Everblades as a Hurricanes affiliate, especially with the Swamp Rabbits now not having any AHL or NHL affiliations, but it's carrying on for another year at least.  Wouldn't be surprised to see any of our system players make a stopover there when the brass wants them close by...

Plus, now that Dundon owns majority interest in the Canes, Karmanos owning the Everblades carries a lot less weight.

Steven Lorentz posted a career-high five-point game, Joe Cox tallied a pair of goals, and Jamie Phillips made 25 saves to lead the Florida Everblades to a 6-1 victory over the Norfolk Admirals on Saturday night at Hertz Arena.

On the heels of a 1-0 loss on Friday, Florida (2-2-0-0, 4 PTS) bounced back in a big way in the series finale as five different players registered a goal to earn the series split with Norfolk (2-1-0-0, 4 PTS).

Following a two-game sweep of the Jacksonville Icemen at home this past weekend, the Florida Everblades (5-3-2-0, 12 pts.) embark on a season-long seven-game road trip starting with a stretch of four games in five days this week.

John McCarron had five points (5a) in two games this weekend, stretching his season-long point streak, a season-long for any Everblades player, to five games.

That's a statement that only makes sense in Bettman-era hockey.

‘Blades surge in second to beat South Carolina, 4-2

Steven Lorentz netted a pair of goals, his first multi-goal game of the season, and Florida (11-5-4-0, 26 pts.) scored three times in the second period to push its unbeaten streak to eight games and earn five of six possible points in the three-game set with South Carolina

Helvig is performing respectably so far.

9 GPs, 2.76 GAA, .903 Sv %

I guess that depends on how you define "respectably".   I know what a .903 sv% means in the NHL, wasn't too sure about in the ECHL so I took a look at the league stats.  Of goalies playing 9 or more games, 24 have a better save %, with the league best being .940.  Helvig's GAA is a bit better, only 16 other goalies are better than his 2.76.

On a positive note, Callum Booth leads the league with a .970 Sv% and a 1.0 GAA.  Too bad that only reflects 1 game. :P

Latest Game: Everblades hold off Swamp Rabbits for shootout victory

Quote

Blake Winiecki scored the only goal of the shootout and goaltender Jeremy Helvig stopped all three shooters he faced to lift the Florida Everblades to a 3-2 shootout win over the Greenville Swamp Rabbits on Friday night

Helvig earned his fifth straight win to equal the longest win streak by a ‘Blades goaltender this season.
