Jurco to Edmonton.

Another Calder Cup champion gone.

Flattering to the Canes organization that their prospect pool is being raided.  If JW does not return, then I am guessing 2/3 from Necas, Gauthier, and Geekie may graduate.  If JW does return, maybe only 1.

If we land either Mrazek or Lehner I'll be ok. If we land Lehner I'll be :yahoo:

Lehner is clearly a high risk, high return signing.  That plan did not work out so well with Darling, so all things being equal I would go with Petr and let Ned compete for back up with Reimer.

I understand. I am so tired of medioce goaltending that I'd take the shot. We have lots of back up too.  Mrazek is not without risk though, either. He's had good seasons before too. Mrazek was #19 in save percentage for NHL goalies last year. Lehner was #2. He was #1 in the playoffs. In the regular season .930 regular and .936 playoffs. That is rarefied air.

Further, he put up .924,and .920 three and four years ago, and even when struggling .908. Which Mrazek has done a couple of times too.

BUT, your point is fair. Add to that, Mrazek had great chemistry here. I am a happy fan if we sign Mrazek. But just once I would like to see us with a full on elite goalie back there and would take the risk. But that's just me, I could be wrong (especially when it comes to goalies).

After lookin at Lehners stats It worries me he could be another AHWNSNBM.  He had losing records 6 out of 9 seasonsi in the NHL.  Than one good year last year.  Thats a risky game to play.  especially with a goal tender with "mental health issues" as I've heard on here.  Reminds me of another goaltender who had "past demons" to overcome, had a great year, signed a big contract and stunk!   Varlamnov has had a way better career.   We all know its going to be Mrazek though.  Nothing exciting to see here, just the same team coming back from last year plus Haula.

Ruh?  You must be looking at his W-L record and nothing else.  Keep in mind that he was playing for Buffalo and Ottawa during those years.  Not many goalies I expect would have won with those teams.

Darling had only 80 NHL games total when we picked him up, and those were with the powerhouse (at the time) Blackhawks.

Lehner has 265 regular season NHL games with a combined .918  save %.  That's NHL top 20 all time (min 200 games played). Take a look at the list of the top 30 below.  He was even better in the playoffs.  If there's risk associated with Lehner it comes from his mental health issues, certainly not his past performance.

EDIT: in comparison, Mrazek has a .911 sv% over 223 NHL regular season games. So in spite of his mental health issues, Lehner has put up way better numbers than Mrazek.

So we've done nothing so far.  Do we like our team?

outside of getting a goalie there wasnt much to do today.  We basically have two options for starting goalie and can control the price.  So, we are own the negotiating power at this point.

More than likely get another roster player for cheap later in a trade.

If Marleau signs with Sharks maybe we could have a deal with them for buying him out? Not sure if Sharks have players available we might be interested in though

If Reimer has a stellar bounce back year and Ned has a stellar first year as backup,  Svech scores 30, Aho scores 35, and Haula scores 25 than yeah I like our team.

Otherwise we need a number one goalie, and a forward or two that can score 20 and play on the PP would be really complete things.

I dont understand the issue with the veteran Checkers players leaving.  They wanted a shot at a roster spot coming into camp.  Who of the bottom six was Jurco, Pots, or Brown going to beat out over the next 2 years?  Plus the Checkers will add Mattheos as a first year professional and probably Eetu too.  DW will sign an AHL veteran or two once we get a coach.

From my end, no worries, just an observation.

Find me another organization that has has the level of departures sans coach/GM change like we’ve had in the past month.

H Wade Minter (PA Announcer) just liked a tweet regarding Lehner having a new home. Sounds like we've got our starter possibly. Very unofficial guesswork here.

Doubtful. We have about 6-7 million in cap space. Still have to find out what Williams is doing.

Or my guessworks wrong as hell lol

OK, not as exciting to me, but a two year deal for Mrazek would still be pretty good given the reasonable term.

Shannon confirming Mrazek to Carolina.

Well I've made no secret I'd have tried Lehner, but Mrazek had great chemistry here and came on at the end of the season and into the playoffs. It was that back half and play-off play of Mrazek that correlated with all of that success from that point on. If we get that Mrazek, I'm good with it. He gives us a shot.

McKenzie (ack) says around $3.125 m AAV two years for Mrazek. That's a pretty good deal. I bet less than he was pressing us for before UFA.
