IT HAS HAPPENED. The Hurricanes get Joel Edmundson, prospect Dominik Bokk and a seventh-round pick in 2021 from the Blues for Justin Faulk and a fifth-rounder in 2020.It's finally happened. Faulk to the Blues for Joel Edmundson and Dominik Bokk. Faulk signs 7-year extension with $6.5 AAV with Blues. That will take JF up to 34 years old.

BTW, Capfriendly says for the Canes this is a hit of $3.1M vs. $4.83M.  Frees some space.  Dang, Capfriendly is fast.

So, we just traded Faulk to St. Louis for Joel Edmundson, Dominik Bokk, and a 7th round pick in 2021.

Anyone know of Edmundson or if this was a good trade for us?

We needed D back why?

Maybe it is the only deal they could make?  He has one more year left, so it isn't adding long term D.

So what do people know about Bokk and Edmundson ?

The St. Louis Blues have added another exciting right-handed defenseman to their group, acquiring Justin Faulk from the Carolina Hurricanes. The Blues will send Joel Edmundson, Dominik Bokk and a 2021 seventh-round pick to the Hurricanes in exchange for Faulk and a 2020 fifth-round selection. Faulk has also immediately agreed to a seven-year extension worth a total of $45.5MM ($6.5MM AAV), taking him off the board as a potential unrestricted free agent next summer.

Edmundson is a LH Dman and has played about 65-68 games each of the last 3 seasons for the Blues.

Bokk, was the 25th pick of the 2018 draft, a RH shooting LW from Germany.

Salary dump.

The blues signed Faulk to a long extension,  which ups the value,  this Bokk guy better be good.

At first glance this appears pretty underwhelming compared to what was previously being discussed as trade possibilities.

From Complete Hockey News:

Bokk was the Blues 1st round (26th overall) pick in 2018.

Highly skilled playmaking winger.

He's a big boy and hits hard. His stats are low but he will probably be the "protector" this year. (IMHO)

he's at least three years away from showing any possibility.

Someone on another thread said Edmundson is a big hitter, probably the Enforcer for us this year - but is he solid defensively?

I think with Hamilton and Gardnier now we have scoring potential, just need a good stay at home defenseman that won't make turnovers and have those O Sh*#+ moments like Faulk was prone to.

Edmundson is 6-4 and 215. Supposed to be very physical player. Slots in for us on third line.

This could make Fleury expendable now

Edmundson is 25 y/o,  has had decent 3rd line D numbers but all four of his seasons shortened with injuries. He was the stay at home D paired with Pietrangelo or Parayko in the playoffs if I remember right

Just what I was thinking. We've got a logjam behind our top-4: van Riemsdyk, Edmondson, Fleury, Bean, Priskie, Forsling.

Like Faulk, Edmondson is in the last year of his 3.1 million contract.

Essentially we got a big physical (approx 20 minute per game) stay at home defenseman, and a 1st round pick (Bokk), for a guy on an expiring contract. We already had a top tier defense; but lacked real toughness on the back end. He should add that to our D; and he is a Stanley Cup champion! Always good to have that kind of experience in the locker room.
