Toronto is just Stupid crazy good.

Watching the Leafs and Oilers game, and liked it when Oilers were up 3-0, but then Toronto scores.

Then Toronto scores again.

But Edmonton comes back and scores again making it a 2 goal led at 4-2.

But then Toronto goes and scores yet again, making it look easy, as if they can just score at will.

Looks like Toronto does this to others teams as well, not just the Canes.

Hoping Oilers win so that Toronto doesn't gain ground on us. Figured with a 2 goal lead that Edmonton would be able to keep the Leafs at bay, but I dunno...

Sorry CF2003, I just don't care about Toronto. They get plenty of hype from the Francophile Canadian media, that I don't want to promulgate here. Besides they seem to find ways to implode every year.

The point of the post was more of hoping Toronto loses, as I don't care much for the team either or all the blowhards from the Toronto area.

I am hoping they lose so they don't gain any ground on the Canes since we have lost 2 in a row now.

Talking about how crazy good they are and seemingly scoring at will, was more a frustrating gripe and lamentation versus admiration for the team.

I totally got your point.  Mrs. and I watched a bit of that game last night and thought: "Wow, they are doing it to the Oilers too."

However, the Oilers have McJesus, and he basically walked on water last night with a goal that will challenge the Svech goal, even though it was more conventional.  The triple undressing seemed to bring Toronto down to earth, and alas, they lost.

I'm as guilty as anyone of the disappointment, bit#57ing tirades and getting upset at under performance. But I woke up this morning and thought, with how we seem to play in more condensed schedule conditions as the rest of the way will be, back in October, I would have taken a game in january to keep the first wildcard spot. Course it's time for the boys to rebuild a little faith for us, as they are good at this year. Just like the gal in the commercial says, by gosh IT's TIME.

With the current model, it looks like 100 points will be required for us to make the playoffs as a wildcard team. 😳

we need to maintain a 60% winning percentage the rest of the way to get 50 points in 40 games.

that is doable but losing streaks cant happen.

Yes.  It will likely be 98 or 99, but 100 isn't out of the question.  Meanwhile, 94 or possibly 93 will get you in out West.

Things can slip away real quick if losing trends continue.

It is usually interesting to read Jayson Shaya's 10 thoughts on the Checker's website. I picked up a bit of a theme, and I post it here because it pertains to any moves the team might make on one side of the puck, and because I'm not sure everyone reads the prospects part of the board. In addition to the theme below, Goat is on a tear and both goalies have looked pretty good lately.

http://gocheckers.com/articles/features/shaya-s-10-thoughts-jan-7-2020

3. Jake Bean will make his first AHL All-Star appearance and it's the right choice. While there are others who could've made it, Jake has been the most consistent player for Charlotte all season and continues to draw praise from the coaching staff.

5. ......We should note here that Gustav Forsling is showing why he can be an NHL defenseman each night. He is a great skater with a heavy and accurate shot. He's been one of the Checkers best players in the last month and he's tied with Lorentz for the team-high at +12.

9. Chase Priskie is rolling right now with seven points (3G, 4A) and a +11 rating in his last six games. He's made huge strides in the last month

I'd add that Roland McKeown has supposedly been NHL ready for about 3 years now.

Not saying that we need to move anyone, only that we probably can. Fleury has shown how hard it is to break into this D, but at some point at least Bean and Priskie should get a look. Sounds like Bean is pretty ready.

To add to the absurdity of the Metro, the distance between the 2nd and 6th place team is 7 points.

NYI-57

PIT-57

Canes-52

Phi-50

CBJ (wait CBJ?!?!)- 50

in the east its (by division)

Metro, Atl, Metro, Metro, Atl, Atl, Metro, Metro, Metro

we need the goalies to step up and get on a winning streak.

Good article. I wouldn't mind getting a peak at Forsling, Bean or Priskie. I need to plan a road trip to see a Checker game or 2 and get first hand visibility into their progress.

I know I've been on this before, but it's even more true (if that seemed even possible) now. That is, the offensive depth this team has is just off the charts with not only the addition of J Williams, but the ascension of Wally and Foegele, and to a lesser extent even J Staal.

This team has 3 legit 80 point guys, 5-7 legit 50 point guys, and up to 11 guys who can hit a 40 point or better pace.

If we slot J Williams in for McGinn or Marinook, we have only ONE forward in the top 12 who has not put up 40, or shown a near 40 point pace capability.

Foegele is flat on a 40 point pace, and Wallmark is on a 38 point pace. But these guys have been on a 65 point pace for 15 games, so it's not a stretch to predict them hitting at least 40. Nino is on a 38 point pace, but has been down and is streaky. He put up 53 last year and 57 two years prior. Staal is on a 32 point pace, but a 55 point pace in his last 12 games, and has hit a 40 point pace each of the previous 6 seasons in a row.

This depth is so nuts, that we will probably suit up TWO 4th liners with 40 point potential. 40 point is considered second line winger production on many teams and 3rd line center production.

Now if we could just tighten the D a little and get a couple of saves...

Did anyone else hear TD on XM this morning?  Basically said the contract was done around the time he and JWilly were on camera during the game.  Said he still is seething a bit over the offer sheet.  Said we probably aren’t going to make any waves come trade deadline.  Said Rod and Stormy have the most job security in the organization, and that he and Rod are ones who really take losses hard.

Good stuff. I do wonder though how one "seeths a bit". Maybe it's a billionaire thing.

I don’t doubt this one bit. JW has this drive as well.

No big deal cc, but somehow you quoted me quoting AWAC.

I do agree though, that J Williams will bring that level of compete.

Wait, I thought when this happened it was "a good thing" because it helped stop wasting time on negotiations.  Well, that was DW's story anyway.  Team put out a press release about how it took all of 1 second thought that they'd sign it,  and about how nice it is to have someone else negotiate for them.  I guess the "seething" could be read through the lines of a slightly sarcastic press release, with the seething focused at Montreal.  I'm presuming this is the focus of the seeth, and not the player?

But TD always shows his real thoughts, and that's kinda refreshing.    Even though I don't like it, it is clear he's done with tradition (i.e. the organ, radio broadcasters) and puts his money in the toys the kids will love (scoreboard).  OK, this old fart likes the scoreboard too.  :)

Remkin: as for the quote of a quote, there is some bug on this board where this seems to happen from time to time.  Quality software the NHL uses or something.

The board software only quotes from the original post with correct attribution. If you quote from a post that already quoted the original post the software picks up the last member who posted, not the original member who initiated the post that is being quoted.

So Willy's $1.3m in possible performance bonuses (bonusi? :P) tweaked my curiosity about the possibilities for the rest of the team.

Svech:  $2.65m

Necas: $538k

Foegele: $20k

Several on the Chex, the ones over $100k:

Kaski:  $850k

Priskie: $850k

Bean: $500k

Gauthier:  $300k

Mattheos: $133k

Keeping us guessing. When will he play, what line. when will he score.

For my own part i'll be surprised if he doesn't play tomorrow.  He's supposedly been working out and skating for a while - i don't think he signed in order to practice for a couple weeks.  I bet we see him on the 4th line against the Coyotes.  I don't bet he scores, but it would be one hell of a spark if he does.
