Movies in 2008

Recommended Posts

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button...saw it TWICE...not because it was that good though lol, just with different friends. Too long but has some nice parts...second time helped me get it better.

And yes Watchmen does look awesome.

Gran Torino was great though, highly recommended, classic Eastwood.

Yes, Gran Torino was amazing! I went and saw it yesterday. It is sad that it is going to be Clint's last acting role... but he pulled a Barry Sanders, and completely leaves us on a high note. He pulled out all the stops in his performance - his best acting on film, IMO.

It really makes me mad to see that Clint and the other film-makers envolved in this fantastic movie got snubbed when it came time to hand out the awards. Then again, I think these "critics" have completely lost touch with us little people. It is so predictable...

The Dark Knight and Gran Torino are the two best films of the year (two of the best films PERIOD).

Yeah I don't pay any attention to the Academy Awards anymore. I'm a huge Bond fan and the fact that Craig didn't get a nomination for Casino Royale pissed me off so much. They don't give it to the big time movies no matter how deserving they are. I'm gonna be shocked if The Dark Knight wins anything other than Ledger winning best supporting actor. TDK should be in contention for Best Picture, but I don't think the Academy is gonna give it a shot.

I think Watchmen will be good, one of the most legendary graphic novels of all time.

I didn't think much about the wolverine movie until I saw the trailer, it has potential to be awesome.

Harry Potter actually looks like the best one yet

A Tim Burton animation 9 looks really good too imo.

Also have Transformers 2, which will have MICHAEL BAAAAY SPLOOOOSHONS!

And the last one I can think of that looks like it might be good is Avatar

I think that might be movies I plan on seeing this year based on the release schedule on wiki. Nothing that has come out this year appeals to me so far.

also to add I really want to see the movie "Let the right one in" a swedish vampire movie, suppose to have a US version of it being made which I am sure will hack the original to pieces.

I doubt that Ledger will win. Not that he doesnt deserve it, but they never give Oscars to actors who died shortly after (or before) thier films release. According to the noms, the only stuff Dark Night is up for is technical stuff like visual effects, soundtrack, editing etc.. and it could probably win all those.. but how can you win all those categories and not even be nominated for best picture?

I quit watching the Oscars years ago when some stupid foreign language movie that was veiwed by a grand total of 200 people would win best picture. I know its not based on money made and its not a popularity contest, but how can you give an award to a movie that was only watched by critics and the viewing public had never even heard of? On the other side of that coin though, the movies WE all go to see.. what we vote for with our dollars are obviously good movies.. look at the highest grossing movies of all time, Titanic, Star Wars, Dark Night, etc. Goofy stupid movies like Harold and Kumar and Pinapple Express make tons of money, but they dont even come close to the huge blockbusters... Ironman was breaking records, but then when it was all said and done, TDK was at like 500 million, compared to Ironmans 150 million... Dark Night blew Ironman out of the water.

Casino Royale was awesome, and I havent seen Quantum yet.. but I'm really looking forward to his WW2 movie Defience. Its out now.. in fact I may go see that tonight. I think Valykarie looks good too.. even though Cruise is a weirdo.. it has a good cast of characters and is based on a true story. The new potter movie looks good. A couple others look good that we want to go see. I'd also like to see the third underworld movie, but will probably wait for that one on DVD. I have the other two, so it would complete the series.

Me too. I remember watching the Bond movies on VHS when I was very young. Connery is probably my fave, but I have to admit that I think Casino Royale was/is the best Bond movie to date. I was as gitty as a school girl after seeing it in the theater, especially considering how much I hated the Brosnan/Daulton films (except for GoldenEye, which was pretty darn good... very good, actually).

Yeah I'm a fan to the point where I've got all the VHS's, Special Edition DVDs, Ultimate Edition DVD's and two different copies of Casino Royale, plus all the Fleming novels/continuation novels, soundtracks, video games, and a plethora of stuff that I don't want to divulge on here. :P I've always loved Dalton's films, especially The Living Daylights which is in my top 5. He got screwed becasue of the financial trouble that the company got into around his era as Bond and the fact that the public viewed him as second choice to Brosnan. I would've loved to see a few more Dalton films. I too love Goldeneye, Brosnan in my opinion got absolutely shafted when it came to getting someone to cast decent actors/actresses and write a half way decent script (he could've and should've been a much better Bond than he ended up being). Tomorrow Never Dies and The World is Not Enough had great potential, but Die Another Day flat out sucked. I was amazed by the work Craig and company did with Casino Royale, I loved Quantum of Solace too, just not near the level of Casino Royale. Can't wait for Bond 23.

END BOND RANT ;)

Also those who haven't heard about it, Defiance, starring Daniel Craig, is a great WWII film. Not as much about the fighting in the trenches, but a story about survival of a group of Jews who lived throughout the forests in Europe to evade the Nazis.

Also is there a way to change the thread title to just Movies instead of just '08 Movies?

i know it might be a little late but what you guys think of Max Payne?

I havent seen it yet, I thought the trailers looked pretty good.. I'm familiar with the game series, but havent played so I dont know the characters or anything. It pretty much got terrible reviews, even got Walberg a Razzie nom for worst actor. I like most of the stuff Mark Walhberg has come out with lately.. The happening got crushed as well, I wouldnt mind seeing it just cause its Shamaylan even though its probably terrible. I'd like to see Payne, but i'll probably wait until it comes out on DVD... if it was that terrible it probably wont be too long before its in the $5 bin at WalMart. Lot of over the top special effects, but then again it is based on a computer game.

I didn't see it, but my wife saw it, and she said it was a stinker, she fell asleep 1/2 through it.

I just caught watchmen on Saturday, that movie was awesome, I don't think any other movie will top it for me for the year.

PS: don't bring your kids to this one, they don't pan to the side when someone is about to have their arms sawed off or during a "love" scene.

PSS: When you do bring your 10 year olds to see this movie why do you tell them to look away during the love scenes but when a guy is getting his head bashed in with a cleaver its ok??

PSSS: I question some people's realities. Family in front of me at the theater had no idea what they were getting themselves into when they said "2 adults and 2 children for watchmen please."

guess next on the list is the Wolverine x-men origins movie.
