Im devastated with Luke retiring right now .  What a legend  the man on the field  he was !

Yep Cff, that plus pilfering Joe Brady after only 1 year with my LSU team has certainly sullied them in my eyes!! Now, if Tepper with his billions can somehow pull strings to draft Joe Burrow, I might change my mind, but the way things seem to be crumbling for the Panthers, I might return my allegiance to Green Bay?

So i take it you are not a cam guy ,  I get it  .     The dude was never a pocket passer  or cerebral  qb  ,   but Cam  is still the best Duo  Threat the panthers ever had at qb .   Granted  if he cant run  then  he becomes  one dimensional .

Cam Newton was and is the Best Dressed Joke of a QB there ever was. Yes, his size and ability to run made him fearsome to scheme against, but his passing ability sucks. As you say, take away the run and all you've got is a 3rd rate quarterback.

By the way , Trying to move up to get Burrows is really dumb when  the panthers o-line needs desperate help and  at the position where the panthers are at  they can  start doing that  right  away .    Im not about to right off Kyle  Allen  yet .  I think with the right Structure and better protection he could be really good for the panthers  with Brady  calling the shots .

Cff, you're absolutely correct in pointing to the O-line and the futility of bringing ANY decent quarterback to sit behind it only to be destroyed? Make no mistake, I fiercely pull for them, even ignoring the team I grew up around, the Saints, for years now. Saying that, I rarely go to NFL games, but ventured forth with friends to the last fiasco vs New Orleans. Now granted, it was the end of the season and several undoubtedly were banged up, AND NO was trying to secure better playoff positioning, but what a joke? A total waste of money(not mine as we were given the tickets) AND over 6 hours on driving time. The best part was that it started to rain in the 2nd half, which really was merciful as we  didn't feel bad for leaving at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Now, back to your discussion, truly before this last season, I had great hopes for a tremendous year? I'm not sure where it imploded, but for sure "putting all ones eggs in 1 basket" so to speak, and counting on the Best Dressed QB in the league, when he's gimpy at best before the season so cannot practice to get his timing down(how little there is about it), was/is a recipe for disaster. Seeing all the holes there is in this team, and recognizing that even a billionaire like Tepper cannot possibly shore them up in short order, I can't blame Luke for not wanting to risk another concussion in undoubtedly a losing season for years. I'd also wager that even Olsen is considering "hanging them up"?

Oh well, more time for hockey.

Well from the looks of things  , they  seem to be all in on cam staying .   Part of me was hoping for a total rebuild  next season  but that does not seem to be the case ,   With cam  we are legit looking  at a 6 - 10  record   and  given how many gaping holes there is  on defense it's not going to be  fun to watch .   Without cam  it's possible  they  could just tank it  which would be best .    I think  for the reason  they can't let go of came  has a lot to do with them not being able to find legit trade partners   knowing   cam is going to want 22 mil .

Panthers rebuild  is going to take a lot longer than  prior  and with  the new changes to bank of america stadium  i know for a fact tepper   bringing in mls to charlotte   he wont lose out much  money  because of that ,   But i do know Tepper wants a new  Football Stadium  and  it could cost tax payers  up to 35 or  possibly  up to 50  %  to cover the costs  to not only be used for the panthers but also   mls .     with Matt Rhule   with that 7 year contract  , that gives Rhule to play around with Came for a season before  going into a full rebuild .   Are there any qb's    in 2022  draft worth a damn ?

Cff, or anyone, What a mess the Carolina Panthers seem to be becoming. I'll say this, as much as I've loathed Cam Newton, and believe that this team needed to cut strings with him years ago, the way his departure is playing out is shameful. Currently I just do not see what direction this team seems to be heading in. I read that player after player is being off loaded, and those coming in seem to have untold question marks surrounding them. I'd be surprised if they can dig out of the current hole they seem to be digging in less than 5 years? My question is, DO THEY EVEN HAVE A CORE GROUP?

I thought they were going to be keeping cam and now  he just might be cut and the panthers wont be getting  anything for him because they went and picked up Teddy Bridgewater .

The idea of tanking is to do just that and not make it obvious that is what they are planing to do .   Cause other wise it could land them in trouble with Roger  Goodell .

This is why I see them making some choices to not only save them some very much needed cap room  but to also start off fresh ,   Rhule has a 7 year contract    which tells me  they  were planning on being a very bad team  for a few years and then once they had their fill of draft picks that will help the team out  then they could  swing for the free agents that would want to come to carolina .

The process might take a little longer than usual  due to not having that trade bait  for potential 1st round picks  , but  they will make due .  Tepper wants long term success not short term   ,  which has been a thing ever since  jake delhomme .

Several things here, Cff. 1st, and I've never denied that I never thought of Cam Newton as an elite QB, even though I also regret how he has been treated here at the end. He is an unquestionable freak of a QB for his size and running ability, but has always, IMHO, been very subpar as a passer. What makes him that?? you may ask. Well, true he CAN make many great passes, but seemed just as likely, particularly later on in his career, to miss horribly. Now I recognize that injury may have been playing a role, but at this point in his career, are these going to be more frequent given that he's played that reckless physical game for so many years, even dating back to his college days?

Now, to your idea of an organizational plan of "tanking". Relative to Terry Bridgewater, Rhule's 7 year contract and Tepper's desire for long term stability, I do not connect those dots in the way you do. IF, and that's a very big IF, there was a way to assure that by sacrificing 20-21, they could get Lawrence, that MIGHT make some sense, but as much as I abhor the thought of planned losing, I'd suggest that Rhule, all his assistant coaches, Tepper himself and all Carolina fans probably hate it even more.Trouble with Roger Goode will be nothing compared to this other collective trouble.

Besides, with respect to Lawrence, even though he looks good in his present element, will that carry over? Or, should they take one of the present crop(personally would love it if it could be Burrow but don't see that happening). Who knows in fact what this next year holds for him?

As for Tepper "wanting long  term success not short term", just ask which Owner in any pro sport does not strive for that?

BTW, love you mention Jake Delhomme there at last, Hom State homey for me.

This years draft   for the panthers   was all  images?q=tbn%3AANd9GcQxu_9Y8ilG4pdMQyPP4xJAM4u08uT6N7osP674swCIu8xqpX5VTJtulDh6b3c&usqp=CAc

Yep, as Rhule quipped to Brady, "What are we paying you guys for anyhow". Given that the rest of their division will significantly be slanted 180 degrees opposite that (offensive)), I suppose that is 1 approach to offset it? Rhule definitely thinking out of the box, but I guess that came down to luck of the draw as he explains that they had some offensive guys picked out, they were just taken before Panthers could pick.
