Caniacs vs Buffalo fans tonight 10/24/07

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I might get scolded for bringing this up but here it goes anyway....

I seen a few fights in the stands tonight and outside.... was I the only one who seen those?

The first one I seen was actually two women going at it , one being a sabre fan and of course a fellow Caniac....

I'd like to put all the drama behind us but it seems we just cant do it...

Although, a few of the fights Id have to say were pretty entertaining lol

Also, great job Caniacs for the wave it was a great time.

Keep it up guys, we are looking good.

PS PLEASE LETS GET A SELLOUT CROWD FOR ONCE!

We had a sellout already this season. And we rarely, if ever, get a sellout on weekdays.

You mean the opening game?

Maybe in terms of sales but I havent seen butts in the seats.

You'd probably agree but we are playing great hockey and theres need to be better advertising for the canes.

How many people you think know about the 9.99 seats the day of the game?

They cant even get those sold out.

Carolina's fanbase has a high amount of families in it. Obviously, families can't come to weekday games, because of school/work/small children/etc.

I don't think our attendance is bad. Considering that Carolina will always be a college sports state, not to mention our NFL , NBA, and (ugh) NASCAR teams, averaging 15k is a testament to the state.

Yeah I just read that.

I sit down in 118,where the ladies where fighting in 117.

I have to say, our fellow Caniacs are a rowdy bunch too, several Caniacs were throwing peanuts, popcorn and cups at the Sabre fans.

These games are always interesting

I don't think I've ever seen the whole arena involved in the goalie you suck chant and the wave was awesome! way to go caniacs!!! Having the buffaslug fan thrown out right there in front of us was just icing on the cake to me....so sweet!

I had a couple fans behind me down in 109 who really got on my nerves, talking about the Raleigh area and how we were stupid, didn't know anything about hockey, etc. Luckily Mr. Hamilton had him gone early in the 3rd. I saw a few Slug's fans get arrested though.

The crowd wasn't a sell out, but it was still a pretty good crowd numbers and sound wise. I mean the weather is terrible, it's the middle of the week and there is a World Series game on tonight too. The sections where it was obvious people weren't there were the really expensive ones on the sides down low.

From what I understand tonights game was left of one of the 24 season ticket pack for some odd reason, a lot of season ticket holders missed the game. Games against teams like buffalo should be on nearly every package possible imo...

glad to hear it didn't get too crazy, two fights, yeah thats pretty tame

There's always a few obnoxious fans that give the others, the ones that just want to enjoy the game, a bad name.

I doubt ANYTHING will ever top what happened to a University of Texas fan who went into a bar in Norman, Ok. (home of the Oklahoma Sooners) and started bad mouthing OU. Not only did someone in the bar drag him into the parking lot and stomp a mudhole in him, but then the UT fan had one of his testicles literally ripped off...

a few slug fans were escorted out of 334/335 tonight. At one's removal there were quite few cheers to his leaving. So many of them are simply hooligans. It used to really piss me off when the Caps fans would gather on the first floor concourse and sing that stupid song after a victory. Slug fans have helped me gain the proper perspective. It's not all of them but it is many of them, they just do not know how to behave at a hockey game.

Wow sounds like a good night at the RBC, I wasn't at the game or anything of course (being exiled here in the nations capital) but I watched it on tv, and it looked and sounded like a good crowd. I know I know it's highly frowned upon by people here about us fighting back against the Sabres fans, but come on, enough is enough sometimes it's time to make a stand and not get walked all over by horrible people. You may say it's sinking to their level but I think our state, our people and our team are definitely things worth defending against these poor excuses' for people. So keep up the good work, don't let it get out of hand, I think you guys who alerted the cops to that punk in the 300's section was definitely the right thing to do. Hopefully he'll enjoy his accommodation's in the local Cary jail house tonight.

That's the same group of people that commodorelover started the topic about. the guy kicked the seat in front of him after we scored and broke it. After cupcrazy went and reported it and the security guy came and told them to leave he had to be held back by one of his friends. and yes we were cheering really really loud when he was escorted out.

I commented on this in another thread, but I saw a few of them talking to the cops as I was leaving. No surprise at all.

I didn't actually see any fights, but most of the Buffalo fans seemed to be on the north and west sides of the arena...I was in Lower Level South.

Saw one twiggy-looking punk make a snide comment about how once we start losing, none of our fans would come out. I just turned around and yelled "KEEP TALKING" and gave him a look of pure venom. I wanted to tell him I've been with the team and watched Dineen, Kidd, Emerson, and the other original 'Canes back in 1997, but I wasn't looking for a fight.

So smug. I'll stop actively hating the Sabres when their fans lose that smugness.

Oh, and the icing on the cake: a lot of them are crying because we did "MILLER, YOU SUCK" so many times. Uh, we hate Buffalo and the guy gave up six goals. They were saying "Can't they be more creative?" Sorry, Sabres fans haven't exactly revolutionized the art of being a hockey fan, they can't talk. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Or at least turn off the TV.

Hate 'em.

It makes me so mad when people drink and become stupid fools. Kicking and destroying our arena, who do they think they are. I had to go get security. We all had small kids with us and who knows what the drunken slug would do. After goal 4 or 5 he really kicked it meaning to break the seat. If this is what they are going to do, they should stay home and break their own crap. Next BARF-FALO game they need security in the sections IMO. Anytime something like this happens at any game, someone needs to get security. Not just sit and watch.

Anyway......GREAT GAME......The boys played hard, Great job to all our Canes.

Yup. It's just what happens when you drink WAY too much. Yeah, we hate the Sabres fans, but they usually don't destroy stuff (except for those pint glasses...). I think this guy was probably just incredibly blasted.

Everyone,

Sorry to hear about the poor behavior of a fellow Sabres fan. I was hopeful that the incidents of the past could be put aside but I guess they linger on. The section I was in was a good mix of Canes fans and Sabres fans with no incidents. I am hopeful that this was the case in most sections as well. I would imagine most people would be more inclined to post about negative fan behavior as opposed to positive. If you are a Canes fan and had a good experience tonight, speak up! I hope you are out there. I know that I personally spoke to a few that would probably have good things to say.

Besides that, congrats on a great game. The Canes look like a much more solid team right now, and I can only hope for our sake that during the course of the long season the team will start to play better. But it doesn't look great!

Take care.

Kevin

Thanks for the kind words. Honestly, most of the Sabres fans in the house tonight were all right, though we had a few incidents. I know that most Sabres fans are an okay bunch, the problem I have, as I've said before, are with the fans that have relocated down here and act all high and mighty because of it. Unfortunately, they've seemed to have carved out a big nest down here, so that's why I don't like the Sabres. However, as I've also said, I know a lot of you guys are all right and just love your team like we do, and that is, of course, fine. :)

This is an awesome rivalry that needs to be noticed by other NHL fans. I'm loving it as long as there is less violence from Buffalo fans.
