Caniacs vs Buffalo fans tonight 10/24/07

Recommended Posts

Yeah I saw those two ladies get into it. Typical Buffalo fans, same as they were in the '06 playoffs. Always dishing stuff out but can't take it. Are Buffalo fans the worst or what? It just made it that much sweeter when the Sabres got the smack-down laid on them and all their annoying fans had to make that long drive back to their (Editted for unneccessary content) with their tails tucked between their legs! Some may claim that they are originally from Buffalo but live in NC now, well if you are so loyal to your Buffalo teams, why did you leave? At least you know that Sabre fans didn't jump on the bandwagon like Ranger, Red Wing, Penguin, Yankee, Duke, and Cowboy fans. The crowd tonight was disappointing, it seemed like 1/3 of the crowd were Sabre fans. When are we going to get a sell out? I live 50 miles away but manage to get to the games. What's the fans in the Raleigh area excuse for not showing up? <_<

Do you REALLY need an answer to that?

I think it would be a great idea if they beefed up the security for every game against Buffalo, with a 'one strike you are out' policy. Eventually, the "loser" fans (NOT the Buffalo fans, the fans that act like losers on either side) will start to understand that the rivalry belongs on the ice, with friendly trash talk off the ice. I know that I, as a caniac, do not feel like any less of a fan just because someone is a fan of another team.

I got home in time to watch the end of the 2nd period and the 3rd period.

Great to see the team salt the game away in the 3rd. I'll watch the whole game today

since I recorded it.

All around good team effort.

As far as the fights and ugliness in the stands, you will get this when a rivalry has been established

between two teams. I really dont expect this to go away anytime soon.

MOST Sabres fans I have had contact with in the past a pretty good. They'll rub it in when they win, but

what fan doesn't do that? As long as it is in good fun, it is fine.

**Do not make things personal in the posts about Buffalo in general. If you're here to talk about the actual game or fan behaviours, that's fine, but no lobbing of personal insutls towards Sabre fans or the state of NY (not to mention that I don't personally appreciate someone insulting my home state on NY). Do it again & you get a warning. - 300Section

Wow sounds like a good night at the RBC, I wasn't at the game or anything of course (being exiled here in the nations capital) but I watched it on tv, and it looked and sounded like a good crowd. I know I know it's highly frowned upon by people here about us fighting back against the Sabres fans, but come on, enough is enough sometimes it's time to make a stand and not get walked all over by horrible people. You may say it's sinking to their level but I think our state, our people and our team are definitely things worth defending against these poor excuses' for people. So keep up the good work, don't let it get out of hand, I think you guys who alerted the cops to that punk in the 300's section was definitely the right thing to do. Hopefully he'll enjoy his accommodation's in the local Cary jail house tonight.

Don't be stupid! Do you want to get thrown out like a few of their fans did? When it comes to Flying Banana games the cops and security do not mess around.

I saw people getting thrown out just because they were cursing and being beligerant toward the ushers as well as the drunk goof that broke the chair.

Not that I am an appologist for people acting like A-holes, but the jumbotron people don't help either when they play "Ooo That Smell" and post on the jumbotron that it is the official song of Buffalo, which did happen right before the back of the seat got broken.

An old man, Sabres fan, who could not walk without a cane was being escorted to a elevator and some A-hole gets in his face and says "I bet that was a waste of your money wasn't it?"

My point is we should not bring our selves down to their level.

many of those Buffalo fans ARE living in Cary (the Containment Area for Relocated Yankees) and normally cheer for their home team, but seem to come out in droves for the sabres games....

Oh, and by-the-way, EXCELLENT job on the "Miller...YOU SUCK!" cheers... came over the TV loud and clear despite Forsulnd calling the plays... I'm sure that made some people in Buffalo happy since the Buffalo TV feed was FSN!! I had to work, and only got to watch bits and pieces (mostly the last 6-7 minutes) but it was nice to walk around saying "6 to 2" all night to one of my banana slug fan co-workers...

Getting into a physical altercation over a sporting event is plain stupid. Some people will always take things too far, frankly because they have little going on in rest of their life, which causes an inability to put sporting events into perspective. When I go to an away game in the NFL, I expect a little friendly ribbing from opposing fans. That's all part of the game, but you have to use common sense about how far you can jest with your opponent before they flip out. Size up your opponent before ribbing. No excuses to the jerk kicking the chair.

The two ladies fighting in section 117 or 116 was started by the Buffalo lady throwing her beer on the Cane Fan followed by a right hook. The Buffalo fan was escorted out of RBC center with her friends. I play hockey with the Cane fan, that is how I know what happened.

I know it was tough for me making my long drive all the way back to North Raleigh. I doubt many of the fans at the game drove from Buffalo; my guess would be they mainly live down here now.

I don't see why someone from Buffalo can't stay loyal to their team. Just because people leave somewhere because of better job oppurtunities somewhere else does not mean they should abandon the teams they grew up with. I will admit, there are obviously better jobs in many different fields in Raleigh than there are in Buffalo. But I refuse to drop the teams that I spent the first 25 years of my life cheering for.

That is all for me in this discussion. I don't know why I take it personally because I have 0 control over what other fans do but it is hard not to when generalizations about the entire city you grew up in are made.

Hi all,

Just wanted to add my 2c on the game last night!

#1 I am from Buffalo originally and now call Raleigh my home. I left Buffalo but not the team I grew up with. I root against the Canes 4 times a year (Buffalo games)

#2 If I wear my Sabres jersey to a game it dosent mean I am looking for a fight. I was waiting for my wife outside the laides room with our son (10 y/o) and would like to thank the drunk Canes jersey wearing (won't call a fan) idiot who taught my son the "F" bomb. THANK YOU! for adding to his vocabulary!

#3 If you feel the need to get drunk and stupid STAY HOME!!! I wanted to see a hockey game without the drama but damn people cant control there drinking! I was in section 109 and we had a great mix of both Canes and Sabres fans. No issues and friendly teasing back and forth from both sides.

#4 I smoke, therefor I go outside during the intermission. Whoever the Canes fans were that I actually had a great hockey conversation were Thank You! We were talking about the teams like adults when a group of OBLITERATED college kids came up and asked me "is he bothering you?" The Canes fans told them no and to go away before they call security over. I really do appreciate you guys sticking up for me as I was outnumbered 5:1.

#5 This is/could be/should be one of the best rivialries (sp?) in hockey with all the transplanted Buffalo "fans" down here. I think even with all the "incidents" last night it was still a great game. I am really looking forward to the game in May or is it March 28th?

Great game, I applaud the win, Buffalo dosen't look like they came to play 3 periods. P. Lavi had the guys hopping for the full game and IF they can keep it up maybe a repeat of 06? (looking ahead!)

Have a great day all!

John

Concerning the Buf Fans behavior.... I share season tickets with another Canes fan and drive from Goldsboro bringing my 7 year old daughter. After one of last years games, I vowed that I would never subject (my) any child again to the language and behavior displayed by the Buf fans behind us. So, until the ushers and security get control of these Fans, I will pass on the Buffalo games and watch from home. (I am sure that there are mostly good fans from all teams, but it's only been the Buf fans that have I mentioned that have required me to try to explain to my child why they behave that way and what their 4 letter words mean). Go Canes. Beat the Habs!

That was a good game after the "Bhoys" got there skates and passes together. In general I thought the fans were pretty well behaved. I did run into the 334 Sabre fan as the police were escorting him out. The Officer and him were standing on the landing between level 100 & 200 he was being very apologetic, saying he made a mistake and didn't mean to do it. I was returning from picking up my prize pack from the "ticket to win" drawing, I can't believe I won something. Then in the parking lot my wife and I were walking out and a very drunk 20 something Sabre fan was trying to stare me down. I just smiled and said "you don't want any of this 43 year old". His buddies (wearing Canes gear)grabbed his shirt and apologized saying he was drunk. No @#%&. Then if he's your friend don't let him get that way.

Sitting in section 107 down at the glass....there was a good mixture of the two teams jerseys. We had an uptight group of sabres fans sitting the row in front of us and to our right who just had to stand up, lean forward, and beat on the glass everytime a hurricanes player went by, which blocked our view(which wasn't the best looking down ice as it was). Then he had to stand up, lean forward, and beat the glass and stretch the sabres logo on his shirt out to the sabres players, like he was the only buffalo fan there and they should recognize him for that. Well after so much, we asked him to please sit down so we can enjoy the game as well. They guy was soo mad! I don't know if he thought we were just saying sit down cause he was a sabres fan or not.

We also got to see across ice and see the young girl get escorted out of the arena. Her boyfriend stayed to watch the game it looked like.

I heard alot of Redneck jokes in the hallways and bathrooms. (Rusty Wallace does not play hockey was probably my favorite)

I heard alot of whining walking away from the the RBC center, and group of guys talking loudly enough to make sure we heard that Canes fans were sellouts, and most are bandwagon fans since the cup.

ALL incidents were drunk people!!!! imagine that.

I just wanted to add something positive here....I believe the poster's name was Kevin that asked if we had an experience with a buffalo fan.

When I was driving away last night still in the parking lot I had my windows rolled down and me being in a really good mood crank up the volume on "Let's Go Canes". My son and his friend tell me that there's a buffalo fan in the truck next to us which I debated on looking at for awhile because to be honest I was still fuming over the fan that broke our chair and then flipping us all off as he was being escorted away. My son and his friend were in the back seat yelling and cheering still and Jordan my son says mom they're waiving at us so I look over expecting to see someone shouting rude things to us but instead the man and woman wave and smile at me and say congrats on the win you all deserved it. That takes class from any fan after a loss and I have much respect for that couple. When I was walking around the concourse I didn't see anyone getting into it or being disrespectful. There's always going to be someone at every game that want's to make an a** of themselves whether it be buffalo or another team. In fact, I'm sure at some point a canes fan has made an a** of themselves too at our game.

Great, great post.

If you walk into another team's building and wear your jersey, then it's incumbent upon you to represent the TEAM and the CITY you are cheering for. If you see other fans of your team being fools, call them out.

Similarly, if you see fans at your home game being a fool and antagonizing our guests, call them out.

At any sporting event, it's a small fraction of the general population that acts like a fool and gives their peers a bad name. Unfortunately, in my experience over the course of the last three years, that "small fraction" is larger for Buffalo and Philly fans than for fans of other teams. While it's still a minority and a small %, it certainly seems larger than for most fan bases. While attending the Cup playoff games, I befriended several Edmonton and Montreal fans. Monday night, I had a great chat with a couple of Vancouver fans. You're representing your city and your team, and those around you are, too. DO NOT allow them to be bullies or punks, and we'll all be better off.

We were in Section 129 last night and had quite a few Buffalo fans around us. The guy sitting right next to us was super cool and fun and enjoying the game. Lots of good natured ribbing back and forth. The guys in front of us, however, typified the obnoxiousness of some of the Buffalo fans. They were really trashing on the Canes - would not stop just whining and bagging (and drinking!). They even had to criticize and comment about Irbe after the video tribute to him.

Of course, as we kept scoring in the third, they headed out early. Way to support their team. As a hockey fan in general and a Hurricanes fan in particular, I, personally, would never leave a game early. I'm there for my team, win or lose. I enjoy watching the game. I love it when they win, but will stick by them when they lose.

The icing on the cake had to be the Buffalo fan who flipped us off in the parking lot as we were sitting in traffic. Our windows were up, we were sitting in the car - no music blaring, no taunting words, no horns - just waiting for traffic to move. But, because we had Canes jerseys on, I guess he was compelled to flip us off. Just left me shaking my head. It's a game, enjoy the game, and hopefully, the Buffalo fans and Hurricanes fans with attitude problems can grasp that concept and move on from the offending behavior.

Oh, and the icing on the cake: a lot of them are crying because we did "MILLER, YOU SUCK" so many times. Uh, we hate Buffalo and the guy gave up six goals. They were saying "Can't they be more creative?" Sorry, Sabres fans haven't exactly revolutionized the art of being a hockey fan, they can't talk. If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen. Or at least turn off the TV.

Hate 'em.

Probably because that chant is lame.

There. I said it.

Sorry. I have thought that for so long, and I've held my tongue but I just have to say it. I've always hated that chant, no matter what fans are doing it, no matter what goalie's in net. I dunno, it just could be so much better. If you're gonna do a goalie chant, chanting their name repeatedly sounds way cooler. Ex: "EEEEMMMMMEEEERRRRYY!!! EEEEMMMMEEEERRRYYY!!! [and so on and so on]" It has such an amazing eerie effect. I dunno, the "you suck" part just sounds so lame to me, I don't know. Sorry. :(

I've heard other teams do it I think so it can't be that unique. But I don't know, it's all a matter of opinion I suppose.

Everyone does the "Emery" chant because it sounds cool. ;) So does chanting "Miller." Unfortunately. *sigh*
