STH Party

Recommended Posts

Yes, it was a very good time. They do rush you through, and i was only able to get autographs from three of the six tables due to the time constraints and LONG lines, but still fun.

Chad LaRose was a HOOT, as usual. He was sitting next to Glen Wesley, and i said "I'm so thrilled to finally meet you Glen, seems like i never see you at these things", and Chad chimed in and said "He ain't all he's cracked up to be, i'm sure you're VERY disappointed now that you've met him!!". Glen had the largest grin on his face....

And I managed to call RUUTU by his petname, "Rooty Tooty", and I thought Staal was going to fall off his chair laughing.

Lavi and Tripp were wonderful.... it was like they were speaking with you directly one on one. Telling funny stories.... Lavi said that when Ruutu got the high-stick, he went to the bench and Eric Cole was freaking out over all the blood.. Ruutu said "does is it really look that bad??" and Cole said "Oh, man, it's terrible", on and on. Lavi stepped in between them and said "it's not really that bad........", trying to keep Ruutu calm. Cole said "Why did you tell him it wasn't bad, it's HORRIBLE". Too funny....

Tripp said he had dinner at Rod Brind'amours house last night.... and it was WAY too healthy for him. He left starving and had to make a run to Taco Bell on the way home....... LOL

For the record.... I asked Samsonov which is the correct pronunciation of his name... he said "Either way is just fine". Doug Warf said that was the most popular question of the night.....

I had a great time.

I was a bit aggravated that they didn't tell you who was going to be at which table until like 5:50pm, last year they gave you the list as you walked in so you could plan out your route, but oh well, I got to see Cole and LaRose, so I'm happy.

For the first we just picked the shortest line and that ended up being Barrasso, Grahame, Corvo, Wesley and LaRose. As we were waiting we saw the guys walk up and there's poor LaRose crutching along lagging behind. Got to welcome Corvo to Raleigh and asked him how he likes it so far. He said he's really enjoying himself and he really likes the area, especially the weather right now. Asked Larose how the leg was doing and the boy gave me an earful. He said how he is going crazy b/c he can't do anything yet and how Wesley keeps telling him that he broke the leg 6 weeks ago so he needs to man up, take cortisone shots and get back out there. He's like, but it hasn't been 6 weeks, it'll be 4 weeks tomorrow. Then he's like but I'm ready to get back out there, its just really frustrating sitting on the sidelines. So before I left I told him to get healthy cause we do miss him out there.

Then when we came down, we ended up being right by the Cole, Walker, Seidenberg, Kaberle, and McCarthy line, so we just got in that line. That one seemed to take a bit longer. Seidenberg says he hopes to be back next week. I told Walker that I wish the refs allowed him to kick Avery's butt and he just laughed and said yeah I was really wanting to too. And what can I say about Cole, the guy is just a pleasure. He has got to be by far the best one with the fans.

We didn't stay for Lavi's thing cause I was with my sister-in-law and we left my brother at home for the first time with a one month old. We were both a bit concerned for the 2....LOL so we decided to head out then.

After Katherine Fritch asked about Stillman coming back, did I hear Lavi right when he said that Stillman himself said that the Canes made a good trade?

I had a great time! By the luck of the draw, the first autograph line I stood on was for Table A - which turned out to be Staal and Ruutu (who's nickname is Ruty - according to Lavi). All in all, I made it to 3 tables, and got the following autographs:

Aucoin

Bayda

Cullen

Daniels

Gleason

Hedican

Letowski

Ruutu

Samsonov

Staal

Wallin

Ward

Lavi and Tripp spoke for an hour, telling some funny stories, and talking about the team, and taking questions.

Tripp mentioned that he ate at Brindy's house for dinner yesterday, and that the meal was so healthful (chicken and salad), that he had to stop at Taco Bell on the way home, because he was so hungry. When Katherine Fritsch wanted to ask a question, she got a nice round of applause from the crowd, while Lavi tried to sing the Star Spangled Banner! (She asked Tripp what was served for dinner, and asked Lavi if Cory Stillman is coming back next season).

Tripp also said that he spoke with Stillman today, who said that his trade was a good one for the Canes. Talk about a classy guy!

sounds awesome....I don't know of any other teams that do this.

the blackhawks do too.. though i could never afford to be a full season ticket holder (only partial) so i've never gotten to go.

sounds like everyone had a blast though! i'm glad it was a good time.. glad ruuty was there and in good spirits. and whoever called him "ruuty tooty" has got stones! you said staal was laughing his hiney off, but how did ruuty take it?

He was laughing as well! I doubt it's the first time he's heard it, since he even declared his nickname to be Ruty!

When I was going down the line I commented to Ruutu that he sure had a tough first day here in Raleigh and he should have hoped for that flight to be 20 minutes later... He just laughed and said he enjoyed the excitement until he got hit...

His stiches still looked pretty nasty...

And to those that dont think players remember things...

My wife and I talked to Staal and his wife at Casino night about a trip my son and I will take to Atikokan, Ontario this summer (which is about 45 miles from Thunder Bay). We talked for about 10-15 minutes and I wasnt the one that was holding them up. I was telling him that two years ago and again this summer my son wants to take a detour to Thunder Bay and see where Eric grew up. He said Atikokan was a really beautiful area and the fishing is great and I told him that we had been before and we fly into a lake cabin and spend the week.

Anyway last night at the STH party I went through the line with my son and got down to the end he glanced up at me and then to my son and said hello and chatted with my son and signed his Jersey and a Hurricanes Flag, posed for a picture with my son then Just as we turned to leave he winked at my son and said " Enjoy Thunder Bay". I just started laughing and my son was dumbfounded ( I never told him about the conversation at Casino Night).

i was a little further behind you when they made the "announcement" but did accomplish goal number 1. Got Cam to sign the laptop, my kid got a few things signed plus a picture that he will likely frame. All in all a good night. I have a total of 8 seats of which 4 are on the 24 game plan so I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get to get all 8 litho's. PJ said there would be a different day for 24 gamers.

we've always called him ruuty here in chicago. in fact, some of the players here have a special song played for them when they score a goal (patrick sharp gets zz top's sharp dressed man, patrick kane gets scorpions rock you like a hurricane, jonathan toews gets chuck berry's johnny b. goode) and ruutu's was the clash- rudie can't fail.

some of us are wondering if they'll still play that if he scores on us on the 12th.

(i, for one, wouldn't mind.... but don't tell anyone here. they'll get the torches and pitchforks)

All in all, a wonderful night. The only negative was Stormy...al least half of the really little kids in front of us in the slap shot line started to cry when they saw Stormy skating around. To the really little, he must be pretty scary. I told my friend "It's hog killing time". Oh well, may next year.

My 10 year old daughter got to go this year so was unable to complete any of her homework, which she brought to the arena in case she had time to work on it....of course she didn't. She had Staal sign one of her homework papers as evidence that there IS more important things in life than biology and vocabulary. He was funny: "Will this keep you from getting into trouble?", "Yes", "Well then I'm all for that". After that, when we were walking away, she was amazed that she got his autograph...."Mom, he's SO popular!!"

Her teachers may not be impressed, but the young boys sure will!

Haha....good stuff, next time I see Lavi and Cole conversing on the bench during the 3rd period of a 1-1 game, I won't jump to conclusions that they are talking about the game itself, lol.

We only got to two tables. Got in a line and it was Chad's. I will not juggle all the stuff I had last ngiht. In the midst of all the juggling, I took my silver marker and took the lid off and had it in my mouth. I can't remember how it happened, but next thing I know, my lid took off out of my mouth and I think it landed in Johnny's lap. I'm not sure who was more shocked, him or me. I should have said that i was testing his reflexes!

Made it to Staal's table cause my mom wanted her Trevor jersey signed. That was about it. The Staal line was so long, couldn't make it to any other table. We were in the last part of the line so we didn't get done until almost 7:30. Overall, it was a good time.
