Injury Update

Recommended Posts

I think this is the time now we need to rest up our guys like Cullen and Seidenberg that are on and off the injured list, it's to much to risk losing Cullen before playoff time, granted we make it.

Per Luke:

Good news on the injury front

Finally, some progress toward health for the Canes.

Wade Brookbank (leg) took part in an optional practice Monday and could be available for Wednesday's game at the Atlanta Thrashers, while Chad LaRose has started skating, less than six weeks since he broke his left leg.

Matt Cullen, however, hasn't been around the team for two days and has gone to see a specialist about the recurrence of his concussion symptoms, Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette said Monday.

No word yet on Jeff Hamilton's re-entry waiver status. He was supposed to clear at noon today. But the Canes sent Pat Dwyer, who didn't play Sunday, back to Albany (AHL) this morning.

Concussions are indeed a tricky business, but the worst thing is to have a concussion on top of another concussion. When Cullen hit the deck again the other day, head and shoulder first, it didn't look good. I hope I'm wrong, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's out for a while.

Is Seids still injured??

Defenseman Dennis Seidenberg did not travel with the team to Atlanta because his fiancee was having a baby. Baby girls was named Story. He rejoined the team in Florida but did not skate due to arrival time.

He should be back for the first round of the playoffs

I hope so, but from what Forslund said in his blog today, it would be way too optimistic.

They must not rush him back.

He should be back for the first round of the playoffs

Not sure about that. Tripp and Forslund were talking about Williams, LaRose, and Whitney being ready to go for the playoffs, but didn't mention Cullen in that group. Tripp actually mentioned that he talked to Cullen today and he's frustrated b/c he isn't getting better.

And Tripp also said how Williams could be playing as early as next week :o

:o Wow, i mean is he in good shape for next week, i dont wanna rush it...

My pure guess on this would be.....if we clinch with games left, they may play him some to see if he is game ready for the playoffs, instead of just throwing him into a playoff game.

Rosie could make a comeback this weekend :)

LaRose a possibility for this weekend

If Chad LaRose wakes up Thursday with no ill effects from Wednesday's practice, he'll be cleared for full-contact practice and could figure in one of this weekend's games, Hurricanes coach Peter Laviolette said Wednesday.

The Canes host the Thrashers on Friday and travel to Tampa Bay on Saturday.

Justin Williams remains on pace to return around four months from his reconstructive knee surgery (that target date would be April 26), but that would still be at some point in the first round, not during the regular season.

As for Matt Cullen (head), he still hasn't rejoined the team after suffering a recurrence of his post-concussion symptoms.

"He's still trying to shake it off," Laviolette said.

As for Eaves, I think he'll be back Friday. I'm just glad Lavi made him stay home yesterday so he wasn't hanging around the rink spreading his germs. Hopefully him staying home spared his teammates.
