The NHL is pulling out all the stops to get the Caps in

This post made me create an account on my favorite teams website, I usually lurked around reading everyones posts and either agreeing or disagreeing with you guys but I suppose that this was the final straw for me. Yeah, the officiating was horrid tonight, but don't go as far as saying "the NHL/NFL are rigged" you're talking about the leagues letting the more popular team win for money and this and that... look at this years superbowl... Ever since I started watching football, I havn't seen SO many kids and adults jump on a band wagon and cheer for the Patriots, half of these fans were ready and willing to get on their knees and felate tom brady, yeah, the NFL really handed the superbowl away on that one for the big bucks eh? I'm pretty sure the Giants won the superbowl..correct me if I'm wrong. So, I guess that wasn't for the big bucks.

Anyways, you hear about bad officiating at least in one game a night, tonight was just our night. Yeah, if Sid the kid wins the cup, it isn't because the evil NHL corperation wanted ALL of this money rolling in (which I don't see why, since I know more people who absolutley hate sidney crosby than like him). The Pens will win because of their team which has been constructed over the years. You have Jordan Staal (The youngest NHL player to ever score a hat trick), Sydney Crosby (The supposed next greatest thing to step on the ice) you have Malkin, who is almost, if not on par with talent as Ovechkin. You have Marien Hossa, Whitney. Alot of good players. Even if the NHL was about the big buck. The team that grosses the most money at they end of the regular season is the Maple Leafs, and look at that, they just lost to the sabres in a shoot out, the sabres... the team that has nothing going for them anymore, why arn't the leafs in post season contention anymore if the NHL is greedy for money? What about last year... how popular were the ducks before they won the cup compaired to the sens?

Yeah, I thought so. If the NHL is a popularity contest and they just wanted money.. Canadian teams would win the cup, every year.

What about the Habs, they're 1st in the east again. ahead of the pens hmmm. Sid the kid is out of 1st, we can't have that now can we? The net profit of a league thats been around for over 100 years is going to plunge BIG TIME.

All in all, look at it this way.... we beat Tampa Bay tomorrow (which we will because the canes excel under pressure) we're tied for 6th with the floundering senators. Are we still in playoff contention? Yes, I believe so. We should not roll over and die just yet.

So, that might not make sense, it might, I'm just shocked that so many people are paranoid that a league is SO corrupt. give me a break.

CanesFan, lock your windows, close your doors. The NHL is out to get you.

dude nice post....but your forgetting the ref from the NBA. He threw games?? It isn't outrageous to think that the NHL wants SID and AO in the ECF. It brings them $$$$$. You have to see that. Yes we sucked tonight, yes Craps played great the last 3 weeks. But the refs were not on tonight and that potentially cost us....

Don't be angry at the Caps fans as I would enjoy rubbing it in if the NHL won the game for us as well. Get back at the NHL, cancel your season tickets, Don't buy anymore merchandise, Don't buy the NHL package and go out to watch some amateur Hockey instead. Gary Bettman is a plague on this league and I am sure he sent down the orders for the officials in this game.

No, the NFL cleaned up their act since then, but NE and NY were both big market teams. The Steelers are a HUGE fan base and had not won a Superbowl since 1980, so they NEEDED the steelers to win. Go watch that game again and tell me that the little ol Seahawks did not get jobbed.

Did you see Sunday's game? How does Sid get away with EVERYTHING including 4 blatant cross checks (similar to the one AO gave to Staal tonight btw) and the Rangers get called for a penalty?

I like the Pens to be honest with you, I would LIKE to see them EARN the cup. But I do want FAIR GAMES OVER ANYTHING.

Because they do not have control over everything, and the NHL does not really care if the leafs make it or not, because they have Toronto locked down, they are huge there but they will be win or lose. You can abuse Canadian teams, just ask the Oilers when they lost Gretzky. NHL is about trying to win over American Markets, and though the canes are an American Market, every hockey loving elementary schooler loves Crosby and Ovechkin.

Bingo! The reffing has stunk in many games all season. It's up the team to rise above and find a way to win anyway. They have done it before but they did not tonight because they were not the better team. I'd still rather be us than them. If we both win the next two - we STILL take the division.

Or, another way to put it. Caps need other teams to lose to make the playoffs. Right now, they are still out and Canes are in. So, Caps need help to get in. I would rather have control of my destiny than have to rely on others. On a side note, Canes have not lost 3 straight since January. Additionally, we have only 2 three or more game losing streaks all season. I don't see us having another.

It was sad, but our play was just as sad. We've won against poor officiating before, and we could have/should have done so tonight. If we really wanted it, we would've been tighter, we would've had less turnovers, and we would have better passing that can't be picked off by a 5 year old. All in all, I'm really sad that Canes lost again, and that now they need to win every last game. I don't think they can rig the playoffs, nor do I think they will, because officiating doesn't determine the winner. It can help decide a winner, but cannot declare one.

My 2 cents. Washington outplayed us, and the officiating lead to 2 goals that easily could have never been scored. The refs were ridiculous, but that is an opinion and not a fact. It can never be a fact that a ref is calling a poor game, it is all determined by the ref's point of view and his opinion on whether a call should be made or not.

I'm not saying I don't think the league had a little chat with the refs, because that could very well have happened. I don't think, if this theory of the league telling the refs something about the outcome of the game, would be "Let Washington win" but "Easy on the Washington calls tonight" something around there.

Whatever happened, alot seem to be distraught. I, for one, am distraught with the Canes. We dug ourselves a hole, again, and now we get no rest. Which will deplete our play in the first round.

I am sorry I cannot believe that anyone thinks that the NHL is trying to get the Caps into the playoffs and leave Carolina out. This is just about the worst conspiracy theory ever. One would like to think the NHL would much rather have a team from the south where hockey by many is frowned upon get into the playoffs to make their point that the NHL can survive in the south. The score was 4-1. 2 of the goals were 5 on 5. So take away 2 PP's and the score is what? 2-1. I am sorry if this offends people but get over it. It is a loss. Not a huge deal the Caps are still under the Canes in wins. These teams play the same number of games ,same opponents in the division. If it comes down to the last game of the season and the Caps somehow make it in then what? Every team controls their own destiny.

I'm not one to by into the conspiracy theory, but after tonight, I'm on board. And to think we get Watson again tomorrow night.

Let's see: Huet is out of the crease, Walker doesn't see him cause why would Huet be that far out of the crease, but yet its goalie interference. Bayda gets pushed and tries to hold up, but with the crappy ice was unable to, falls into Huet and that's goalie interference. Cam got ran into atleast twice, but no interference. Whitney gets tackled from behind, no call, Whitney takes a questionable penalty, it gets called. Hamilton gets rammed into the boards the Caps player skates into his stick, Hamilton gets called for a high stick. Staal gets crosschecked by Ovechkin, late by the way, only reason it got called was b/c Walker and Lavi had to beatch. Oveckhin leaves his feet to make a hit, sorry but if that is any other player, they get penalized. I can go on and on.

The league doesn't want the leading pointman not to be in the playoffs so they will do whatever it takes to get Ovechkin to the playoffs. Since they will likely get there, I hope Crosby and the penguins slaughter them.

I used to love Ovechkin, he was my favorite player, but after tonight, I lost all respect for him. Add me to the Crosby bandwagon, atleast he plays with respect. Don't get me wrong, I still love Ovechkins enthusiam for the game, but he's dirty.

Nothing against the law to compare an IP address from the log of one site to another to determine who did it, and then ban them.

Yeah, trust me I work in IT it is possible, but the other thing is, your computer does not have a permanent IP address if you subscribe to cable internet you lease it from a DHCP server. So, if you renewed your IP address you have a different one, unless all the octets assigned to your internet provider are blocked, and then you are blocked yes but so are thousands of other people. The only way to really block your computer is by MAC address, which is assigned to your network interface card. But that is harder than IP blocking.

But just be safe and don't do it for real. I do not like to be a sore loser (like Tortarella) it just seemed like a good idea at the time. lol.

If the NHL was trying to rig the league to make big bucks, they would have rigged the lottery draft to put Crosby in New York ®.

Exactly! Despite the last two losses - we still control our destiny. The Caps do not, they need help and quite frankly - it sux for them because BOTH these teams deserve to be there. The post season will be a better place with the Canes and the Caps competing.

And I answered it. Nope because Walker is not AO. Walker has a history of flying off the handle a bit. AO really does not. And Like I said this is the same around the NHL. Perfect example. living in Buffalo I got to watch a really dirty player last year with Briere. He is low down dirty slew foots,spears,trips,etc. They do not get called because he is not known for flying off the handle or playing the game on the edge. it is what it is. And it is the same for every team.

I agree that the post was way too vague. There are Euros not just Russian that can be considered a bit subdued during the playoffs. But is not because they want to be home as much as they were not brought up knowing what the cup means from the age of 3. In the same light there are tons of euros that play above their norm during this run. So to bunch them up collectively as he did was asinine.
